VEEM just quoted me some crazy price.. fair enough it's practically a brand new tailshaft made from 3.25" tube with heavy duty uni's, new centre bearing and a new splined yoke.

Anyone had something like this built?

Carbonfibre tailshaft single piece is $2k to your door from the guys who make the mines ones.

Or a chrome molly one (stong) from UAS is less than $600.

Both save alot of weight over stock. And eliminate the centre bearing.

I dont like the idea of a 1 piece. Obviously nissan didnt either

they have pros and cons of design.

The two bit ones sap power at the bearing, are heavy and the centrebearings are a source of failure under . They are smooth though.

A single chromemolly is lighter and better for performance but, would transfer more vibrations.

A single carbon fibre shaft is lighter again and transfers less vibration than all the above. It is superior in every regard except cost.

Cheap/reliable/fast : pick two applies.

Twincam 3L w/ GT35R.. monster torque.

I took a 32 & 33 tailshaft to veem, they said the uni's are on their last legs and the centre bearing has play (the 32 shaft), $900 to build a new one with heavy duty uni's etc.

Told them to get stuffed, Final Drive is building me the same thing for about $650.

i had final drive build mine for the SR powered R34. They supplied all the parts bar the rear section of the shaft (with out centre bearing) and cost was less $500 from memory. Fitted perfect and never a hint of vibration. Second shaft i have had them make both been sweet.

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
