Yesterday I modified my exhaust. It used to have 2 mufflers in the pipe and was cranking out a huge 82db. I replaced the middle muffler with a bit of stainless steel pipe. Now this is where i get confused.

when the car is cold it sounds basically the same as it did before maybe slightly louder...however when the thing warms up it "amazingly" becomes a lot louder. and i mean noticably not slightly maybe 2 times as loud..... does anyone have any conclusions to why this is so.....even on idle when cold its quiet but when its warm on idle it does the B B B B B B B......

anyone have any ideas?

I am not entirely sure if i understood your question but what is there to be confused about if you get rid of one of your mufflers and your car is louder...?

When your car is cold and you start it up, it will idle a bit higher than when hot. This would be enough to give it a different pitch in the noise. Once it warms up and settles down on idle you will hear the pulses more noticably and will sound as you described : B B B B B B ...

every other "loudish" exhaust ive had have all been loud as soon as i start up the car. however this one only gets louder once the car is warm. at the same revs when its warm it is alot louder than with the same revs when its cold.

...i am not confused about why it is louder, as that was the point of taking out a muffler, but confused about the way it becomes louder when warm.

Well,

There is the technical explanation that metal expands when it gets hot therefore it would have more bore and volume, but it would apply to all systems on the market.

Plus, i'd doubt the difference in noise would be that noticable. Mine is certainly not that different from cold to warm.

well its like oranges and apples./...

it depends on your exhaust and the size of your mufflers.

the one i had on mine before yesterday was an exhaust for good flow and no noise, due to the epa a while back....but i got tired of no noise and took matters into my own hands.....

when its cold it would be under 90db for sure but when its warm i estimate between 89-91db.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
