I'd be interested to know aswell. I've got an rb20det, and i've heard that putting rb20de cams in will be a good upgrade. I'm not sure why tho...

But getting back to the topic, from what i just asked, would rb25de cams be an upgrade for a turbo'd 33, and if so, why?

Non turbo cams have more duration and overlap, which gives more performance than the standard turbo cams.

We do ALL TYPES of camshafts, from 1930s staem engine cams to 2 meter long Diesels to even RB25.

I have a set of RB25 cams waiting to be bolted to my cylinder head.

We have the best quality camshafts in Australia.

Listen, if you tell us what power you want from your engine and at what RPM you want to do it, we can make cams to do it. MAX HP GTR, Street GTR, drag GTS, ANYTHING. (As long as your power claims don't exceed your bolt ons)

As for DE cams in DET, havent' done it. Bit of a baind-aid approach.

As Lukevl pointed out, cams will be different depending on what you want - mid range, top end, a bit of both.... If you can imagine, by going for top end, you will loose some bottom end, etc etc. Also, it may have a negative effect on emissions.

Cams can be tuned to allow the cylinders to fill and empty easier, therefore increase power, but duration and overlap will vary depending on where you want to make the power.

So if you get the wrong cams, your car will run like a dog.

Out of interest what other mods do you have? Doing cams CAN be a good idea, but definately shouldnt be the first mod on the list:)

what lift and duration do you recommend for a street/track gtst aiming for mid and top end increase without too much loss of bottom end driveability. Inlet and exhaust. Do you recommend adj cam gears inlet and exhaust or exhuast only? I am looking at keeping red line probably under 7500rpm.

Head work? HEll yeah! I had to relieve my cylinder head cause the cams fouled the casting with the new lift.

Normally increase the duration by about 15-20 degrees or so at 6 thou, and wack on a bit of extra lift in the order of some 100 thou plus.

Work great for the application you described.

Anyway how much could u bang together some 260 durations cams for a rb25 for??

What sort of dollars are you looking at per cam? Are they made from new blank billets or regrinds?

I think the only DE cam worth a quick swap into a DET is the exhaust cam, that one alone would do and since there is more hassle with the VVT intake cam I'd consider it.

BTW can you do anything about a cam to suit the existing VVT?

INASNT - We can do any camshaft. We are the only camshaft manufacturers in Australia. Our facilities are the most impressive in Australia (Cause they're new and neat). And from a true engineering point of view - Yes ours are the best quality. TRUE ground finish, with an ultra-light series of cams on the market too. I have a bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and the boss (Dean Tighe) has an A.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Ivan Tighe makes valves now and co-designed the Repco/Brabham F1 V8, AND he still races his BDA powered open wheeled Kadicha Hill Climb race car. The thing is nuts - and he's 73!!

OK READY? In a bucket actuation such as the RB series motors, the camshafts need to be made from Iron. Problem is, you can't make Iron billet camshafts in the RBs length and diameter (Too slender- hard to machine) The way around this is we can make billets from our steel, then the buckets would need to be chrome plated and journals and lobes would need oil holes drilled. JEEBUS they look good but. Doing some 7MGTEs for Toyota in Canada, same style of cam and they look sweeeet.

Or we can do what we do to almost every other set of RB cams (including mine) and build them up then grind them down, which does not require lash caps or spacing as the base circle is kept intact. Cost for this is $1200. Now don't go nuts cause there is HEAPS involved. If you saw how long it takes to set up, then grind, then build up, then grind and repeat and crack test and straighten, you'd shit yourself.

    • Hi, i’m making a rb25det coil loom for Vag short coil. Can anybody tell me which Ecu signal wire belong to coil number 1 and 2,3,4,5,6? The connecting switch in above pic is 8 wire i think white is for +12v and black for earth.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
