Hey all,

When i start or quit a game, i get a static flickering ranging from 1-2 seconds... i get static audio and static visual...

A mate of mine had this with his PS3... and owns the same HD Plasma as i do... but his PS3 is the AUS 40gb ver. and mines the white JP 40gb ver.

Anywho ive tried researching and a few forums are saying its a handshake issue with the resolution from the PS3 to the TV and its "normal", has happened on multiple brands of TV's... well it sorta pisses me off... i didnt buy a PS3 to get static flickers everytime i want to play a game... back on topic... i thought it could just be my mates PS3 that did it, and he was going to return his PS3, but was then advised to try the standard component cables to see if it happened again... he borrowed my PS2 cables and it worked fine, went back to HDMI and hasnt had the problem since...

Ive removed the HDMI cable from both ends and plugged them back in and its still happening... Havent tried the standard component cables yet, will probably try that tonight...

Another mate has the same PS3 as i have and the same HDMI cable (DSE Brand, 1.5m) and he doesnt have any problems with his. so i dont think its the PS3 or the HDMI cable, and ive read on other forums that this happens on a fair few HD Plasmas like some Samsung and Panasonic models, so i dont think it could be the TV either?

Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone recommend a solution?

This hand shake you refer to is normal when connected through hdmi. it is the ps3 changing your screens resolution to the games optimal setting. If it is not affecting your gameplay i dont see the prob, there is no damage being done and from what ive been told is that isnt much you can do about it.

The problem is the static.

It might not affect the gameplay, but i didnt buy a PS3 to have static visual and sound everytime i want to play a game, or quit a game...

For a nice, smooth looking system, this static problem sure does affect the experience...

Why does it need to change resolution anyway? ive set it to 720p in the main PS3 menu and the TV setting is at 720p, so what is it changing when going into a game?

Also, just out of curiousity, does the Xbox 360 Elite have this problem with HDMI aswell?

    • Make sure you use the spherical bushes** on the lower arms, ifyou do that. ** at least, if not the whole replacement lower arm.
    • The tap for coolant flow control will be stuck open. It's not just the air door motor that dies.
    • Not really, but the heater box is pretty simple mechanically....if the door is one way the air bypasses the heater core and if it is the other way it goes through it for warm air.  If you are sure the actuator you moved manually is for the heater mix (there would also be one for output air direction) then I'd take the heater box out and see what is happening (you'll have to regass and re-coolant the systems afterwards) BTW pp724 onwards from the GTR workshop manual cover the system in good detail, it is probably worth checking. I think the IAT sensor might be a problem electrically for getting cold (if you got 24 error code not -24 it thinks the incoming air is -50c) and it covers how to test the sensor (although most likely it is either not plugged in or a wire is damaged)
    • Use the GKTech subframe bush and bring your subframe 10mm closer to the chassis. You'll need to fix an exhaust hanger to suit. One of the best mods I've done.
    • You'd really have to pull it apart further to know, it least you can be confident that the one heading to the back is not connected any more. There was once a ground on the shifter seal mount too, your head unit issue could be that simple
