Hey guys,

Finally went down to the panel shop today to get a quote on my bonnet to be resprayed (was in horrible condition when i bought the car) my suspicions were correct in assuming that basically its f**ked. The cost to get it back up to scratch is going to be ridiculous, so this is where i need your help!!

basically im going to just buy a new bonnet, so would you guys be so kind as to point me in the direction of some really good wreckers where i stand a good chance of finding a good condition series 1 bonnet for a good price. ive searched the forum and came across the thread listing reputable wreckers, but that thread is 5 years old now, so if anyone knows of somewhere decent, please let me know!!!

im located on the border of NSW/VIC so a wrecker in melbourne/canberra would be ideal, but i seriously dont care if there is a place on the other side of the country.

would preferably want a bonnet in the stock series 1 deep marine blue, obviously to match my car, but just a good bonnet in straight condition so it can basically be just sanded back and painted.

or if anyone is selling one???? ill buy it off you hahah

Thanks guys

import monsters usually do you a good deal on freight.

THey will just wait till they got a big container coming over and just chuck it in...

Send them a email and ask how much... it couldnt hurt =)

ermm i know its a bit out of the way but theres a gazillion jap wreckers in lansvale in sydney. literally every second place driving down the main road is a jap wrecker. i got my new bonnet same colour for $50. good condition too, just needed a wash!

i had a look through import monster and slidewize imports the other day. found a few bonnets for around the 40-60 dollar mark, but yeah adding shipping made the bottom line price go up to about 320 odd dollars, and also of course about a 2 month wait to get it via container which im not really into just for a bonnet.

50 bucks! thats an awesome price! Sydney isnt out of my way, i can just organise freight. would it be possible to get a few names of the wreckers, and maybe numbers if you have them???

    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).

    • @TurboTapin hey man thank you for all the info! I am about to order my cd00a today for a rb25 neo s15 build I am currently trying to get the ball rolling again on 😁 what is wrong with the Collin’s adapter? Is the bellhousing machining 15mm because that’s how thick the Collin’s adapter is or is that universal across any I decide to go with? Also do you recommend any adapter in particular? Thanks man 😃
