Hi there I noticed there were some differences in torque between the series 1 and 2 RB25DET engines.

Series 1: 250 ps (183.88 kw) / 6400 rpm - 30.0 kg*m (294.20 N*m) / 3200 rpm

Series 2: 250 ps (183.88 kw) / 6400 rpm - 30.0 kg*m (294.20 N*m) / 4800 rpm

Where is the extra torque from the series 1 motor coming from. And if it has something to do with the valve timing - does this make the series 1 the superior engine for modification? The series 1 is more powerful out of factory?

Just gettin' in to Skylines sorry and looking to purchase one. Need to know if the s1 is the better base engine.

Not quite sure but i think series 2 were starting to bring in the Neo engines...

So different Head internals... cams, lifters...

that's what i thought anyway...

the only diff between series 1 and 2 was the coils . they got the ignitor inside them instead of a stand alone one . they made the same power and torque . and what is up with your stats above ? they were identical . and if you bring the neo into this at would be series 3. and they are FAR superior

If you have the option, go Neo for sure in a R34.

The only difference i have noticed between the engines is the AFM. A S1 motor uses the sometimes troublesome "green label" AFM, the same as the 1 for my RB20 in my R32 GTS-T. The series 2 motor uses the better "pink label" AFM, as found in the R34 RB25DET NEO motor also. When my AFM crapped out, there weren't any green label 1s at the time, so i had a pink label retro fitted & the car has been going like a gun ever since. I think some GTR owners are starting to use these as an alternative to the Z32 upgrade also, not 100% on that 1 though.

Or better yet, do like im planning & put a RB25 NEO in a R32 lol.

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
