Hey guys and gals.

Im gettin my unichip hopefully installed by next week.

I am also tryin to purchase an adj cam gear.

My question is, if i got the ecu tuned without the adjustable cam gear, would the gains be different to if i got the car tuned with the adjustable cam gear ( tuned and set to -4 deg).

Does that make sense?

What are ur thoughts.

How does the Unichip for the R33 work? Do they replace the whole ECU or just the main chip inside? Either way does everything else work as before, like air conditioning etc? How much do they charge for the unit itself and programming/reprogramming?

JimX - the Unichip on the R33's is still a piggyback computer so the stock ECu does all the normal air con and all the other stuff.

Sort of like a SAFC but it does timing as well.

Back onto the original question - I just tried 3 and 4 degrees on my adjustable cam gear and the car and the car ran noticably worse than 0 degrees both times.

I'm not 100% sure it's because the PowerFC wasn't coping, because it could have just been maxing out the AFM a lot easier. I did get the warning light a couple of times, but I get it at 0 degrees too so who knows.

Oh great now you tell me, I coulda saved $175 and a lot of stuffing around! Everyone else seems to be getting good results with 3 or 4 degrees retard. If mine is going to be fine on 0 then I may as well put the original gear back and sell the Apexi one.

Well, I was maxing out my AFM and the injectors were up over 93% duty even at 0 degrees. It could just be getting to the limits a lot earlier, hence the iffy top end.

I'm pretty sure it'll be fine at -4 or so after a tune, after I replace the aforementioned items. The AFM arrives in January or February, and a tune comes soon after that.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
