Have swapped out my HRE wheels (which have the TPMS installed) for the stock wheels (which don't have the TPMS installed) about a week ago and have been driving around since.

one of the tpms sensors in the HRE wheels is damaged and always throws an alert

I am not however generating an error code for the set of stock wheels which do not have any sensors which I find unusual (not complaining)

what does everyone get when they put on their wheels without the TPMS normally?

i believe it only checks for the presence of the TPMS sensors periodocally. ie. it will not throw an error straight away. one possibility is that you fit the new wheels, go for a 15 minute drive, park it back in the garage afterwards (where your OEM wheels are presumably) and in that time it communicates with the sensors on the OEM wheels stacked near the car. you then go for a drive again, then come back, it "resets" again. just a possibility. the other possibility is they are working fine (i hope so, because if so, i will be getting a set!)

what is odd though is one set of wheels driven for a week now has no TPMS. I might be away from home for 12 hours or more on occasion and have driven for a couple of 20 min trips in the meantime.

you are corect though in assuming the second set is close by, maybe 5-6 m away from the car.

I take it if I got a second set of tpms for the track wheels that these would have to be paired up with a consult III and that tpms sensors are not swappable in the way that different bluetooth devices recognise phones in order of preference and availability? I am not sure exactly how they work and neither are the boys at my dealership.

Anyone now of a cheap place locally for TPMS by the way? I know of an ebay international vendor that sells them but wondering if any available locally

if i were to drive to the track with 18's i get the error yep.

however if i swap them on at the track (with the OEM wheels in the garage at the track) i dont get the error (because of the reason mentioned above). frequent visits back to the garage (where the OEM wheel/tyres are) tricks the system into thinking they are on.

is there any chance that your error you are getting with the TPMS sensor needs a reset, and the system isnt throwing any more errors until that is rectified?

hmm, will see. week and a half with no error. the error code from the faulty tpms in the separate set of wheels in the garage used to come on daily, now none. That sensor was not installed correctly and was found free, rattling around in the wheel for a week until I could work out what the sound was so I think the error is due to physical trauma.

    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
