hey guys

my 60gb ps3's copped the yellow light of death.

i know this is repairable but i read that its a recurring problem. am i better off ripping out the hard drive and buying a new slimline one?

i dont really play ps1 or ps2 games. i just prefer the look of the 60gb.?

warrantys over for those who are gonna say go for warranty.

cheers :/

This happened to a friend of mine but he ended up buying a slimline cause ff13 was coming out in a few days. But he wanted me to try and fix his old ps3 so he could get all his saved data off, which worked. To get the saved files that can't be copied away from the hdd, the only way to get around it is to connect your 'fixed' ps3 and a new ps3 together and do a full data transfer (providing your YLOD ps3 is working). Unfortunately you can't just take the hdd out and put it in another ps3 cause it will detect it as a new hdd to be formatted. And yeah I've read that it can come back again, where the 'fix' can last anywhere between a few mins to a few months. The job itself is pretty easy, just gotta remember where all the screws go when putting your ps3 back together.

Would probably be better to do that cause then at least it is new.
