oh and i wouldnt be ripping volvo's insant.

some of the new models have internals that would root the hind legs off 9 out of 10 skylines on the road. the S90(?) inline six, twin turbo, more driver assists than a v-spec, stock standard. yes that volvo beats your skyline. cost's a bit though.......

But 99% of Volvos on the road are old with retired and drive slow! :(

As for the S90 i aint to worried about them at the moment coz the 10g i have spent on my car in the last few months will give me piece of mind.

that's cause they dont die.  More reliable than nissan's :(  you get what you pay for.....

hahahahahahahahhaha mod's are the only way you're going to keep up with some of the new models.

mate if i was in the market for a new fast car, i wouldnt even be looking at a volvo, unless i was a grandpa for sumthing. There are so much better cars out there than a volvo

oh yeah. heaps better cars out there than volvo. i'm not saying they're the best. just better than nissan. you're ripping a higher $ car than your own???? who's next on the list, Jags? that's the funny thing about volvo's they dont design them for speed but they still beat lots of models that are :(

Some facts and figures I have collected from around the place...

(NOTE: I do not advocate a complete absence of speed enforcement - I do, however, object to inappropriate law enforcement in the name saving lives. If you want to save lives, be serious about it with well founded strategies).

~ Taking into account the growing number of road users, the proportion of deaths on Australian roads has actually been falling every year since 1980. In 1980 there were approx. eight million cars on the road (well before the introduction of speed cameras/lasers) with 2954 deaths. In 2002 there were approx. twelve million cars on the road with 1717 deaths - approx. a forty two percent fall in the total road toll for Australian roads.

Source - 'Fatal crash data' from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

~ Accidental falls kill as many people in Australia every year as fatal car accidents. Hmmm...I wonder how the government can start enforcing a system of fines for our own protection when it comes to ladder safety issues....

~ Almost 2500 people take their own life every year in Australia. Since 1990, suicide has been a more common cause of death for males than road accidents.

Source - Flinders University Research Centre for Injury Studies.

~ In 2002, Queensland had an eight percent rise in the road toll from the preceding year (total number of people killed). This was despite an increased number of speed cameras/lasers and a large jump in the total revenue raised from them.

Source - 2002/2003 Queensland Police Report.

~ The road toll in Victoria has been increasing since 1999. In the 2002-2003 fiscal year it is estimated that the Victorian Government will earn approx. $334 million from speeding fines. More than half of this amount will come from 0-15kph over fines.

~ The road toll in NSW last year was the worst since 1995 (up nineteen percent on 2001). In the same year, the total number of speed cameras/lasers was increased from 58 to 100. It is estimated (conservatively) that these 100 cameras will raise $180 million dollars in fines in 2003 - NONE of which will go into road safety initiatives and is a total approx. double that of the amount currently spent on the total road safety budget.

Source - NRMA CEO, Rob Carter.

~ In Queensland, sixty percent more people are involved in alcohol linked fatal crashes than in speed linked fatal crashes. In 2001-2002 there were 452,000 traffic infringement notices issued, yet only 24,641 drink driving infringement notices were issued.

Source - 2001-2002 Queensland Police's Report.

~ In 2002, the Victorian speed tolerance was cut to 3kph. The ADR's (Australian Design Regulations - the Federal design and safety laws and manufacturing regulations for all vehicles built, imported or sold in Australia) make a 10% allowance for speedometer inaccuracy. That is, 54 to 66 kph in a 60kph zone, 90 to 110 in a 100kph zone etc.

Draw your own conclusions people.

you think nissan is better than porshe?

why dont you go to the porshe forums then inasnt. weird logic.

i like nissan's i think they're good cars for the money. but we're not talking value, we're talking performance. in which nissan (and volvo to a lesser extent)

*continued*

in which nissan (and volvo to a lesser extent) dont mean a thing up aginst the italian stuff.

i think what i'm saying is dont say a make is slower than your's when it's not. it makes you look stoooopid.

"~ Accidental falls kill as many people in Australia every year as fatal car accidents. Hmmm...I wonder how the government can start enforcing a system of fines for our own protection when it comes to ladder safety issues...."

ummmmmmmmm...........they do mate. i studied theatre tech work, in order to rig something on a ladder (above the hight of your head) you need a riggers ticket license. failure to do so can cop a fine much larger than any speeding ticket thats been issued. however, no busts so it is largely ignorned (including my class and everywhere i've worked) but the laws are still there.

i think attutudes are changing a bit, drink driving isnt as acceptable as what it was 10-20 years ago etc.

i think unbias research from a 3rd party (royal commission? yeah probbly a bit too far. ) hired by the fedral government (who dosent recieve road tax??) to find out what the hell is going on with a view to implement the findings. as in if it said more people were dying of dui then more enforcement there......

just a thought.....

I think you need to look at things in a different way.

Most of that report is only based on crashes on a highway, most of the crashes involing speed arn't on a highway and don't require another car to be around.

I've driven around suburbs and seen cars completely wiped out because they took a corner too fast and hit into a tree, sure it might not have been a 100ks but was probably at 60ks trying to go around a corner that really should be taken at 30-40ks or less.

This is why they add in these types of crashes as well.

Another one is speeding yourself but someone doesn't want to stop at a intersection or a red light and trys to speed on through.

Almost everyday I go through an T intersection where the max speed is probably 5-10ks, ie very slow, but I'm on the road that goes through, and I have to go onto the other side of the road because people won't A) slow down B) Stop at the line. They just keep going through as if I'm not going to hit their front end or not even there even if they look they still keep on trying to do 5-10ks to get around.

I surprised I havn't been hit in the side.

This could be classed as another speeding crash.

Another just further up the same road, people come speeding out of a suburbian road another sort of T intersection, they just speed out they don't look they don't care, I'm just waiting for the day that someone comes speeding by 10 meters in front of me and I hit the side of their car.

90% of crashes are done at speeds below 40ks, but most are people not wanting to stop or slow down for a tad.

If you never go through intersections like this you'll never reliase what the point is, and I didn't till I started going through these intersections everyday.

I don't bother speeding through them because if I was doing 80ks or more someone will be dead one day.

"yet you post on a nissan forum??

no volvo forums around that interest you?"

you said it there. that was in responce to me saying that volvo is a better make than nissian so you ask why post on a nissian forum.

so you reckon nissian is the best make? better performance than all the others? cause if you dont why are you posting on the nissan forums???

i'll say it again. i'm here cause i like nissians.

I post on a SKYLINE forum coz i own a SKYLINE, which does not mean i think nissan is the best manufacturer plain and simple.

    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
