stock they are ok, but go better with a set of extractors and an exhaust (they run out of puff at about 5000rpm with the stock headers, but will happily rev out to the 7500rpm redline with extractors). handling wise they ride a lot better than a lot of other small cars. they are slightly stiffer so they don't suffer from body roll as much. my mum and sister have corollas and mum's ex boyfriend had a lancer and it was better to drive than both of them. they aren't "oh my god, they are amazing" good, but when compared to other cars in their class they are good.

sounds like something i'd be after, if i keep to smaller cars i was thinking either this or the ford laser tx3 ... but im tempted to go for a larger aussie made car (prob a falcon) for the space, auto trans, aircon and (hopefully) LPG conversion since i drive a fair bit

i may just try out a SSS pulsar after seeing you recommend it on so many threads though :P

my daily is a vt wagon. i'd take the missus SSS over it any day of the week, other than the fact that the commodore has cruise control (since it's a long drive to work everyday). even if you got a falcon or commodore on gas i don't think it would be much (if any) cheaper than a 4 cylinder, especially if it's city driving that you do. i average about 9L/100kms out of the commodore and that is highway driving. before i bought it and was driving the pulsar to work i was averaging low 7's. best is 6.5L/100kms in the pulsar. round town it's usually 10 to 11L/100kms, but that is pretty much all short trips (it's only a 5 or 6 minute drive to the missus' work from home). if you were doing longer trips where you got to stay at a steady speed for more then a few hundred metres at a time you'd easily see economy of under 10L/100kms for city driving. that time i got 6.5L/100kms was on a trip to brissy where i had to drop mum off to pretty much the heart of the city, but it was night time (about 7 to 8pm when i was in the city).

i'm almost tempted to sell the wagon to get myself a SSS. i originally got the wagon because i wanted something with cruise, comfy seats and auto for the long trip to work (i have a dodgy back, so seat comfort is important), and price as well. i wouldn't have been able to get a SSS for what i paid for the wagon (at least one that wasn't falling apart). that is what is stopping me selling the wagon to get one (can't afford to pay the difference).

in a race the pulsar would beat the wagon too.

im not entirely too sure what i'll be looking for in my next car i cant decide if i want a:

hot hatch (SSS pulsar or tx3 laser)

- good for cheaper parts, bit more fun to play with

or a nice big comfy car like a falcon running on lpg

- good for running on lpg + comfy seats for my long distance journeys

either would have to be automatic, i spend far too much time stuck in epic traffic jams to drive a manual

im basically looking for something cheaper on fuel (lpg) and automatic with aircon which is why i thought the falcon would be a good car

but i do enjoy going on cruises and the like, and itd be nice to have a car to take to stuff like the RAC skidpan or tuning days where the hot hatches would be better, but i did think that they would be a bit more expensive on fuel since they dont run on LPG which is almost half the price of unleaded ...

in city traffic the hot hatch will use about half the fuel of the big 6 on LPG, so cost wise they would balance out, especially once you take into account the lower rego of the 4 banger.

that said, i have little experience with the autos in the pulsars, so don't know much about reliability or even performance. that said, my sisters corolla (2006 model) is an auto and it goes suprisingly well. think it would probably beat an auto SSS though, but i couldn't really say for sure. the only auto pulsar i've driven was a n14 1.6L one and it was a slug. no power matched with poor ratios.

that doesnt sound good :( I definitely need an auto car due to the amount of time i spend driving, and most of thats in traffic jams ...

im looking at a 93 alfa 164 thumbsup.gif 3L V6 ..

LOL yeah i've heard bad things about reliability in older alfas ... but its such a charmer and the reviews on it have been fantastic (although the car does seem a bit more pricey to maintain)

    • @GTSBoy This method was able to get readings of -10 to -2, so it looks like its monitoring.  Now I need to figure out why the vacuum on the line provided isn't alternating with manifold pressure.  I went with 2 lines that an RB25 tuner recommended but I'll get a longer hose and try directly off the back of the manifold.  He may have been used to OEM intake setups while I have a DBW setup that removed the MAF and IACV.  
    • I work at a car detailing and tinting shop called Quark which gets all manner of German cars in usually (mainly due to a contract with Mercedes Benz Kita Osaka, BMW Nishinomiya and others) but every once in a while something special comes in, like a fully restored 1972 HS30 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG... The shop owner had immediately started applying film to the windows as soon as it was in the shop so the interior was completely covered in towels and plastic sheets. But I could get a few photos of the engine bay which was restored like new. Such an amazing car to see in pristine condition in Japan these days.  
    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
