Guys

Lots of talk but still no legislation enacted so detectors afaik so still ok to use in WA for now.

Laser jammers still not tested in court so use at your own risk. (The legislation that makes radar jammers illegal - telecomunication act doesn't cover laser as it is not a radio device, but obstructing police in their duties may be used but not tested afaik).

Had a XTR and Pro78 traded in on a local designed Vengeance. Couldn't/can't rely on any of them on multanova or similar low power radars. One time reasonable notice then the next you had nearly driven over one before they alarmed (ie gone if you were speeding).

There is a really interesting unit (stinger) that has great reports but the price is breathtaking.

Cheers

Yeh I remember that as well, perhaps that is what is confusing me. But I remember an actual date being set where they said after that date they would be illegal for use in WA. Probably not though, I can't find anything so I'm most likely mistaken.

That said... Not sure why you would bother spending money on it? Just don't speed? Surely if you're just using it for the occasional moment when you accidently go a few kms over, then you could rack up like 5 speeding fines before it actually became financially beneficial. And if you're not using it for that... Then shame on you sir, fleas of a thousand camels and so on.

I'll answer your question with a blunt answer - YES I do speed occasionally. No stupid speeds but yes I do from time to time. Flame me I don't care :P

The fines for minor offences are expensive now and will continue to go up.

Well at least your honest about it, anyone who reckons they never speed is lying to themselves.

As far as I can see, those radar detectors can only save you from minor speeding anyway (which is what you want) if you are going way too fast, you won't have time to slow down by the time the detector goes off.

As for the fines, we still have it pretty "cheap" compared to the Eastern states for low speeding offences, most other state offenses starts at ~$150 with 1 demerit point loss. While we still have $75 with no demerit point loss for now.

And yet compare us to the rest of the world and we are outrageous. I got a speeding fine in Germany for 4kms over the limit, got fined 12 euros. That seems fair to me, it's a punishment that is proportionate to the crime. Here that same speed would cost me $75, so I may as well go 9kms over the limit everywhere cos it would cost the same as 4kms.

Never knew that...

Dam zi Germans get all the good stuff when it comes to automotive...

Nürburgring,

No speed limit autobahn

& now reasonable speeding fines?!

>_<"

Yeh, but that's because they just don't drive like dickheads over there lol. It's amazing how completely different their attitude over there is. You would never see anyone cut someone off on the road, or have somebody hog the fast lane, or do any dangerous driving of any sort. It doesn't even cross their minds. And there are no ridiculous hoon laws because nobody hoons, it's just not done. Driving is done to get you places, and you share the road with others, that's the whole mindset.

If we tried to setup here the same things they have over there, like the Autobahn, people would die. We don't have the right mentality to be able to do that here. And that's why we can't have nice things :(

On the topic of getting pulled over with radar detectors, I did on the Easter long weekend and even had a discussion with the officer about my radar detector.. no fine (for the radar detector).

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
