Hi All,

I have a 1979 Datsun 1200 ute with the following mods.

s13 CA18DET

s13 5 speed gbox

FMIC (fairly big, not sure of exact dimensions)

Turbosmart Veeport BOV

Stinger 4424 EMS

Garrett GT28

Oil Catch Can

TurboXS boost controller.

The GT28 is great, but it lags like a bastard! Would going down to a GT25 affect performance other than coming on boost earlier? especially considering the fairly large intercooler?

Thanks.

Well it won't make the same power as the bigger turbo but chances are your probably not using the GT28 to it's full potential anyway? What psi and rwkw is your current setup making now? Even if you drop some rwkw at the topend the low-mid range of the smaller turbo might just make it as quick to drive around town as the GT28, as an example a friend has a turbo EA Falcon with a massive turbo making 300rwkw, yet it only manages a 13.3 1/4, now a Skyline can do that with only 200rwkw.

    • I would be surprised if that wasn't the issue. It's probably telling you, that even if you remove the plastic liner, you may have some other clearance issues that may occur too in some scenarios. IE, tyre to guard. It looks like someone has already rolled the lip, but you may still have issues in the future IE, turning and hitting a bump etc. The fact it changes how bad it makes the noise when you are going backward vs forward is highly indicative that it's the tyre rubbing. They do make a terrible sound, even if you're only pushing a project car that has a liner hanging down on a tyre!   Has the car been lowered? If it has been, what is the measurement from the centre of the wheel hub to the lip of the guard straight up?

    • Mark's a bit smarter than people give him credit... He'd convince the person that is to become dead, to drive him to the forest first. That way his car has no evidence in it, and he's free to dispose of their vehicle permanently how he sees fit too...
    • But if you had to go bury a body in the forest, would you not put that in the boot? Most of them are >=90kg these days.
    • That could easily make a horrible noise. +1 to the benefits of: a) Disclosing all relevant information when asking questions such as these, b) Actually going out and having a look at your own car, seeing as you're the one there, and we're not!
