Once again got pulled over by a highway patrol in Nunawading... But this time really pissed me off. The police officer was extremely rude and racist.

First of all i wind down my window and the police officer told me that my car is too low. Then i smile at him and told him that this car is completely stock and i didn't do anything with the suspension of the car. Guess how he reacted.....

"When i tell you your car is too low meaning that your car is too low. Don't show me your attitude or i will put your f*cking arse behind the bar" Juz a bit curious here. Is the police officer allow to do that in any way, i mean as verbally using the F word just because i smile at them.

The reason i smile at him is because this is the third time i got pull over and previously the officer defect my car because the exhaust is too loud and the blow off valve need to be pulled out. Therefore, i spent 150 to get a stupid stock exhaust and also the bov out. Then, got pull over a month after that, the officer told me my car is ok after all the inspection.

And now the officer is saying that my car is too low??? I mean WTF??? They each come out with different story. Ok... then the police asked me whether i am still a student. and continue saying that "If you want to drive on my road in Australia you better follow my rule." Come on... is not that i am not following or in any way not respecting Australian rule.. Sigh this officer is just full of bull shit. I am thinking to file a complaint as this is really outraged.

By the way, i did ask him do you guys always pull skyline over? and he said yes we do and because most of the skyline have problem with it. Sigh... time to for a change of car...enough is enough.....

Am i allow to post up the detail of the police officer who is being extremely racist and rude so that when the same thing happen to any of the skyliner out there we can beware and also immediately file a complain upon him.

Yeah! Post his details! :jump: Oh and it's "patrol" I thought this post was going to be about petrol? LOL

Whenver cops pull you over, dont they have something that records every-word, from you and the police??? Maybe file a complaint and ask for video footage or something!!!

But yes, they arent allowed to swear at you.. go speak to another police or someone higher in charge..

You never told us, if you got defected or not.. so did u or not?? and did u tell him, again and again its stock height??? Finish off your story mate..

His name is B SHENTON and his rank is S/C if this make any sense to you out there. And his number is 32145 station in Whitehorse T.M.U.

Yes i got defected and my car registration will be suspended if i don't "fix" it whithin 7 days. What can i fix when nothing is wrong with the car. So i will just drive the car to vicroad without doing anything to it.

No worries. Just if they get rude, ask the conversation to be recorded and they get nice again. If they are going over the car to defect it ask questions as they record, such as "why do you think it is too low? How are you going to measure that? Where can I find the law that covers this defect?" and then that can be asked for in court if necessary. You will see a complete change in their attitude if they are being rude and ignorant and especially racist.

On another note this ***n pig didnt swear directly to u howhow82, but u can still say that u got scared of this pig cause he threatened u even though u didnt do anything

i hate these highway cops, nothing but bad luck for me aswell, they dont know a lot of the rules themselves

why do u get pulled over anyway? random?

juz curios :D

"I pulled you over because you were doing 76 in a 60, while running a red light and sideways"

errr I don't know about that....

"And your car is too low"

Well I can tell you the car isn't too low, I have checked it (meanwhile when I got home I double checked and he was right...I guess losing some tread made all the difference)

*breath test*

"Ok, well let's agree that the light was yellow...and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the height...keep this *breathiliser pipe* that is 100mm, if that can touch the car, it's too low. I will let you off on breaking traction *notice he changed his terminology from 'sideways' to 'breaking traction' *

ok thankyou

*writes speeding fine*

--------------

For the record

- I wasn't sideways - I broke traction a *little* just before I changed gears (turning + hit full boost with not much tread)

- The light was yellow, but it was very close

- I can't argue speed, cause my speedo was dead (ironically the reason I was driving is cause I was on my way home to fix the dam speedo!) But I didn't mention it to the cop. I wasn't sure if he'd just have another thing to pin on me

- The car is too low buy about 5mm at one point (part of zorst) and I am going to be fixing that when I have the money (different springs)

All in all he was really decent about it, I thought I was in a LOT more trouble. There are some nice cops around.

Meanwhile I got done again on the way home from work in my other car only a week later, and now if I do anything wrong for the next 2 years i lose my license :D the 2 speeding fines (exceed by less than 15kms) racked up to 6 points, I only had 8 to start with...doh. Oh well, my own fault isn't it.

Actually, Is it legal to tell them they are being recorded?

Eg. I use a O2 XDA2 (PDA phone), if I am ever pulled over by the police.

am I allowed to say "Sir, before you say anything, this conversation is being recorded, how can I help you officer?"

is that legal?

yaf28f: ofcourse it's legal... you can get a video camera out of the boot and start filming if you like :D

Haha, thanks, I think I'd stop at the voice recording. they might think I'm trying to make a b-grade porn movie.

But seriously, my friend tried to take a picture once when I got pulled over with a camera and he said that we weren't allowed to for security reasons (eg. if he had a photo of him we could get someone to do something bad to him - not in those words).

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
