Merli
Mate... I'm in need of some slicks for my R33 GTS-t... I read in Zoom that you ran 15x8.5" slicks on the back of your car? Did you fit those over the standard rear brakes? If so, could you please hook me up with some details on where I can get some of those "Convo Pro" rims? Cheers mate, Andrew. Merli
Thanks heaps Brett! A few more questions. I'm deciding whether to use 26.0/8.5-15 or 28.0/9.0-15 MT ET Drags... I have a manual gearbox, so I guess I'm going to try and minimize the shock on my drivetrain as much as possible... Would the larger diameter 28s be a lot harder to spin up, and hence place a larger shock on my gearset? I'm assuming that it's easier to spin a smaller diameter tyre than it is a larger one? I'd love the softer sidewall of the 28s, but the increased drivetrain shock may not be worth it? Secondly, I've decided to go with the Cragar Drag Star II /Weld Pro Star style rim... There are a few different options available, but I'm not sure how they translate into offsets and stuff... Which one would be suitable for the rear of the GTS-t? 15 in. x 8 in. (5 x 4-1/2 in. B.C), 3-1/2 in. RS 15 in. x 8 in. (5 x 4-1/2 in. B.C), 43-1/2 in. RS 15 in. x 8 in. (5 x 4-3/4 in. B.C), 3-1/2 in. RS 15 in. x 8 in. (5 x 4-3/4 in. B.C), 4-1/2 in. RS 15 in. x 8 in. (5 x 4-3/4 in. B.C), 5-1/2 in. RS Thanks again mate Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/7667-attn-try09s/#findComment-112626 Share on other sites
TRY8S
Hi merli firstly you will not fit the 28s because they will expand too much and hit the guards and you won't fit the 26x10s unless you fit solid bars instead of suspension as it was our first run with the 26x10s cought the side skirts and ripped them off and put a big dent in the tyres so i suggest the 26x8.5s i have run a handfull of 9sec passes at over 140mph on that size with a standard diff, drive & tail shaft as for the gearbox i cant help you there other than it's cheaper to replace a cluch than a gearbox so just flair the cluch a bit, as for the wheels i dont know off hand what the offset is but i do remember it was the most furtherists offset out that centre line do on the convos ring shane if you get stuck, hope this is of help. brett. Merli
Excellent... I guess I'll go ahead and order 26x8.5-15s then! You ran your passes on standard diff, driveshafts and tailshafts?!? I've already broken one driveshaft on my first outing! And that was just on 18" Dunlop Formula Rs! I was expecting to snap a whole bucketload when I put slicks on... Hmmm... I guess it's good news to hear yours have held up, hopefully the new one will suffice... I'll give Shane a call and see if he can shed some light on those weird Imperial measurements for me Thanks for all your help mate! Andrew.
