I must have been doing something wrong that day. Ran wide at turn 4 the first lap, then spun the car 180 at lukey on 2nd lap. A nice confidence breaker =) After that i took things a bit easier. Cruising the track at 100-120 on street rubber. Those two tight corners i had to brake down 60-80 to have any chance. Car just understeered, had to practice feathering the throttle to get the thing turning. Still happy i managed to hit 180km on the straight, dont know if the car has limiter still. Doesnt really matter as once you run out of dial, you dont know what your doing. Didnt push it, since i had to wash off 80km to take the 1st corner comfortably. Then once i heard they had taken the timing device from my car, wasn't too fussed about speed. Cheese and Chalk was expression for Street vs Race rubber. At that point didnt feel a need to prove anything with the rest of you. Might have been nice to be put in slower group =) ... Sorry to Andrew if i gave a poor impression by saying i didnt enjoy the day. Had a lot of trouble controlling my car through tight turns, which while challenging wasnt the reason i wanted to drive on a high speed circuit. Speaking of which i have some crummy mobile phone video of Andrew blowing past me 200km while i puzzle over what the Green flag ment. Anyway, copped a lot of shit for coming last on the day, running slow, etc Sorry about splitting early. Ran out of smokes and heat was getting to me, went for a swim.

Shame the track timers died. My first 2 laps out, i ran off the track, so came last =p Once i figured out how to get around in one piece, the clocks stopped =(

Sorry to hear about the prang. Speaking of cable ties, i woke up Saturday morning down at the island, cleaning out my car, when i noticed that the screws holding the fire extinguisher had sheered through the mounting plate. Too many people adjusting the seat, and the weight of the thing had forced a screw to strip the alluminum strip i had between the seat rails =( Thought my day was going to be short lived at that point. Decided to head down to the track anyway. Managed to scab some cable ties, and clamped the bracket and the strip together. The scrutineer gave me more grief about the 2nd screw, which he thought was a rivot from a distance. Didnt mind the cable ties so much. Told me No rivots in motorsport; nuts and bolts only, and failing that would seem cable ties. ... back to the accident, you shouldnt have too much trouble with series 1 r33 parts. They are lot more parts around than series 2. There is a list of parts shops here somewhere. New bar should be easy to find advertised. Let your fingers do the walking, as prices vary on the other parts.

Err.. As per usual, from sounds of things, might be me and a friend coming down tonight. I was expecting a few others to come down and enjoy the long weekend. Just worried my friend whose house we are ment to be staying with may decided to stay in town. He is already working til 8 tonight, and wanted to bump this. So just wondering, now that the wrx crew have nabbed places, anyone got space left? else i may be looking at driving down early tomorrow morning. also appreciate if the leasee's can pm a mobile, so can meet up away from track. hb/ update: ugh. just noticed the accomodation thread. if someone wants to move this over for me. if not, might be cruising with the megamart boys. -

Woop. Just spoke to Cams, and they said tested every 3 years, and hydrostatic every 6? Forget where i saw the regulations originally, for some reason thought every 6-12 months. As for getting the thing inspected, moorabin is a little far from here. All the local people seem to be consultants or not interested in small tanks. Cheaper to pay $20 for a new one. -

I seem to have gotten number 47. Its a gtst auto so nothing to fear. I feel i should be in a more handicapped group. I will be going down quite late, like 9pm, with some friends who are putting me up. -

Reason is TROY ( YLWGTR ) changing my brake pads this friday so i need a bit of an idea so i can organise timing...ect Speaking of which, saw him at Race Brakes on monday. Funny to see a baby seat in the back of a GTR. Can someone post up a pic of where would be best and easy to mount my exstinguisher? ROY you've got my bonnet restrain in your boot right  ? Thanks mate. There are some pictures of how to mount on the floor in front of the passenger seat posted back in october. Is a bit of fiddle,so wouldnt leave til last minute. Unless your planning to mount straight to the floor, and not rails. -

Kewl. Just rang tyre joint, and post poned. I was figuring more rubber equaled better grip. Was thinking if i had to replaced them soon, i may as well take advantage of them. Speaking to my dad, he reckins your suppose to wear in the tyre before going fast too. Also said they will give sooner, than later, so less speed to worry about if something wants to spin. But then he is hallucinating with flu, and thought i was drifting or something this weekend. Anyway, will leave things alone for the moment. Still the tyres will get worn one way or another =( -

hoi. well spent the day running around town. went to race brakes and got some comp 2 for the rears. $165 with my non existant wrx club discount. ouch. hopefully friend will help me fit them tomorrow night, depending on weather. hopefully getting the rubber replaced on friday. amazing the differences in prices, depending on who you call. staying away from the race rubber. tyres still above indicators, but they will need to be changed soon or later. spare rims amyone? as for contingency, the guy i was ment to be staying wiht down in phillip island, was trying to weasle out of this weekend. i think he was offered some work or something. bec, any beds left? i dont think ill need it, just in case things fall apart. last thing i wanted to ask is if anyone had some spare bonnet restraint cables? what else have i forgotten? pontiff: andrew posted a link earlier to the wrx site, which has all the names of people competing. also he said your likely to get billed after the event. -

woop. when i said cheap, i meant discounted. i had bendix ultimates put on the front back in october; but for the price my mechanic would charge, i figured i use the money to get some rb74 and install with some help. spent this afternoon looking up tyres. couldnt find any infos about re55. but for $300+ per tyre, may as well just replace the front two azenis for half that kind of money. btw, im looking at where to get the steel cable bonnet restraints. they look a lot easier to use than tying a gordian knott out of nylon ribbon. means i can let the motor idle down with the bonnet up, and not burn meself. got me accomodation sorted. still need to get my extinguisher inspected (monday), luckily i got monday & friday off. should have the bases covered. -

Oops. i put down standard class on the application. Oh well, hopefully organisers will put me in associated. Took my car to mechanic yesterday. Changed oils etec. Probs: - rear brakes are worn - front tyres are close to indicators. Going to see if i can source some cheap pads; and if anyone wanna save me some cash by helping install them? btw, was there some group buy (blind elk?), or did that come and go. Not sure what to do with tyres. The rears (36psi) have heaps of tread left (no burnouts) but the front (38-40psi) have worn down twice as fast . Deciding whether i can get away with putting the grip at the front, and running the worn on the rear. Bit of a gamble if marshalls kick up a stink. Else what tyres to get? 2 or 4? Ive got Falken Azenis which came with my car. Havent got $300+ for each tyre. Will have to dip into savings at any rate. Any recommendations? -

Other thing i wanted to ask, was about extinguishers. I've got a fire eater, which i took to sandown and winton. Was there something about inspecting them every 6 months or so? (cams) if so, anyone know how much this would cost. is it cheaper to just replace the thing for $20 =) ta. -

just wanted to ask, how demanding is PI on tyres? no more than sandown/winton? with faster speeds etc. just wondering if i should be concerned. havent really cash for track tyres. Getting the car checked over by my mechanic next week. quick inspection, but might end up turning into service. -

wOOp. Been waiting for this event. Only just noticed this thread. Need to get off my ass and send in the form. Missed Winton in Jan (Dec was too hectic, altho Jan was a lot smaller turnout) and was too poor for Calder. hb/ -
They are moving soon no? Still saw cars in their windows other day however.

I believe the Tower Hotel has a Trivia night on tuesdays, so you wouldnt have much fun talking over the announcer. There is a function room upstairs however, but i dont know what that would cost you. Also recall some Corvette Club used to meet there, but dont know what the story is at the moment. www.corvettesofmelbourne.com say 2nd thursday of each month. The Ulysses motorcycle club meet every 3rd friday too. www.ulyssesmelb.com They have 2 car parks, cant say much about saftey, probably ok. Is usually bad about 12-3am on weekends, when the drunks get turfed out. Anyway, Ill have no excuse to miss any meetings =)

My friends went to this today. He took his red mazda capella like last time, and his brother took up his honda hrv, which i call Mr.Roll-Happy =) They said there was about a third the cars as last year. A lot easier to have fun. Basically didnt have to wait in queues etc, just waved straight through. I'm kicking myself now of course =) ... but really didnt have the money for fuel etc this week. Said they saw like 1 skyline tho =( Also said there was a professional photographer taking snaps. Was charging $25 a shot on A4 photo paper. Also had photo's from the last event, so i might look him up. -
Hmm. Benq website says these are 17". -oops im on crack. read 737. too many choices

Why dont they mix wrx with other clubs in same group? Is it becuase they dont want to, or are they just inviting extra people to generate revenue for track fee etc. ps. Propose Auto class =p
