  1. Not so keen unfortunately. My friend wants to take his Capella back up, but needs funds for rear shocks. Might go up for the ride still.
  2. Or it could be just a bunch of drunk teenagers from around the neighbour hood. They are everywhere.
  3. i think they are pure jap. youd find them at autobarn im sure.
  4. You had to respray the whole car? That isnt the side that was damaged in the photo. I'm only stirring.
  5. I was pretty shagged on monday night. Didnt think to jack the car until today. Had some friends who are apprentice mechanics, who said i could bring it by their work. Drove it around the block, at first thought it was wear indicator, but isnt constant, and looking at the pads through the wheels is heaps left. I was planning to jack the car, but they have nicked off now after working all day. Said i should be fine to drive it, encouraged me to do so, shake whatever is lose, but would have thought driving on freeway 100km would have done that. oh well. obvious thing to do is yeah, jack it & clean it. cheers. UPDATE: Well the noise seemed to have gone during the past 2 days. Ended upl putting it on hoist, to see what might have been the problem. Was expecting to see some scratches or damage somewhere. Found a small stone caught in the backing plate of the disc. Nicely polished on a few sides. Assuming this was the culprit. Makes sense.
  6. Hi all. Took my car down the coast over new years, and has since developed a mild squeak, then scraping noise coming from the rear left tyre. Was staying at a friends beach house down near the beach, and hardly drove the car. The back roads are mainly gravel/dirt, so i drove very slowly and carefully, didnt hit anything. Which is why i am suprised that something may be wrong. At first i thought maybe something wrong with the tyre, or stone stuck in brakes etc. It does a slight squeak when crawling along at walking pace, but the sound gets louder and louder, until it sounds like a scraping noise. I managed to drive it back to town (100km+) without incident, and the noise appeared to have gone away. However driving it around my block just now, it was certianly there. I gather no one will be able to shed any light as is on the forum, I didnt see anything obviously wrong during the day, and cant see under the car whilst moving. Has anyone suggestions on where i might take it or do. My usual mechanic is on holidays, so i am out of luck there. Is it worth trying the local tyre shops? I think it just needs to be put on a hoist, but doubt they can troubleshoot as it prolly only becomes obvious whilst driving, unless jumps out at someone. There are several workshops around, but they are sharks in this area. I dont mind taking it to some franchise, so long as i dont need to replace major parts. Wondering if i should go to a suspension shop instead, altho i did get burned by pedders last time. Aim here is to get car back on the road, as most places seem to be off til 17th. regards, hb
  7. Hi Mike, My friend and I were suprised by number of volvos etc. >> BTW, what were some of the top speeds you guys were getting on the straights? >>most i got was 165klm/h I think the best i got was around the same. Was driving an Auto, and didnt have a long enough run to build speed. Guess i lost too much speed through corners. I was aiming for cornering and not speed, so only boosted hard towards the end of the laps. >> michael. >> the volvo- re-55 tyres,av-gas,kevlar pads, head ported/polished,larger throttle body, stratos racing seats,3.95:1LSD,custom cam, magnacore ignigtion,20degree advance timing,4spd close ratio hollenger gearbox with a 'real' short shift kit How the hell did you afford a hollenger? my friend works for them, and gear box are like 16 grand.
  8. Damn thing is doing it again. So is heater box you say?
  9. Hi, Has anyone heard of this brand. I have them on my car, and wondering what they are or worth etc. Never heard of them before and neither did local tyre shops. Any ideas? sorry no pic.
  10. Explain to me this mock R31 too. It caught me off guard =)
  11. Welp, all in all, a fun day. No horror stories to report thank god. My friend Ashley and I drove up on Sunday morning. Only managed to get 4 hours sleep due to a nasty neck cramp, resulting from xmas party the night before. Got to winton just after 9am, passed scrutineering without incidient, just a lose battery. Was thankful didnt have to go out with the first session, as they looked to be overly keen. A lot of track cars about. Went out in the 2nd group, and took it very easy. Decided to focus on braking and cornering, rather than speed. Tried to keep on the track this time =) Only managed to get out on the track 3 times in all. The second time was the best, as started putting the pieces together. Unfortunately the 3rd time out, those who's cars hadnt broken down, were just getting ****y. They started pushing too hard, and trying to pass in corners. I guess my definition of a corner shouldnt include the sweepers at the back. Not used to having to use mirrors, put too much trust in people to play fair. I had one guy sitting in on my arse, trying to push through the corner. Saw him start moving over, looked left as im taking my line, when i see another car appear from my blind spot. pull wide to let him through, just as the next corner is nearing, the 2nd car cuts past me. Nearly took him out. Thinking oh oh, this is too much, hugh the edge of the track and slow right down. Wait for a gap in the field to come back out, then coming up to the sharp left leading to the hairpin, some little elfin comes in fast, blocking the inside. Chose to go wide, and up into the gravel. Car pulls up in a ball of dust. Thinking ok fine. Look in my mirror as i see another ball of dusty charging in on me. feck, onto the gas, give this guy some room. nearly ran up the arse of me. Back onto the straight, round the hairpin, squealing tyres, look back in my mirror, and i see the green commodore drifting around behind me. decide its best to pull off the session. too muhc pressure to go fast.
  12. Madness!
  13. i think you can get a discounted registration, that lets you take classic, etc cars out on weekends or during organised events. if the car isnt street legal, i dont think they will let you drive to an fro events. trailer time. just my understanding, which could well be unfounded, etc.
  14. Out the front of my house x2
  15. What is this 7am start. If the drive is 2 hours, hmm, thought gates open 8. Can you rock up late? My friends have suddenly become interested in going up. But we are looking at the onsite camping, $15 a night from what i read on website. Is there no scrutineering? Im low on information, last minute decision. Is petrol easy to get hold of up there. Expensive. Should jsut bring a jerry can?

  18. seems to have stopped it recently.
  19. Hi everyone, My car has recently developed a clacking sound coming from the centre console. It starts when i turn the car on, and dies off after a few seconds (5-10). At first i thought it was the cd player, but it does it even when its off (detached face). From the sounds of it, i would guess it is coming from air vents. Anyone have any ideas, or experienced before? cheers, hb/
  20. Okay, thanks guys. Didnt want to bring up a boring topic for you all. A friend of a friend came back from japan and mentioend it to somebody, so i was asked to find out. Like i was saying, have a friend in japan who isnt into cars and such, but said he might tape some if i named time and channels. if its just junk then dont want to bother him. We still have RPM and such on sunday afternoons, so can get our fix for rally and whatever else is happening at the time. Anyway, only drift i ever see is when someone splashs out for BMI/Option dvds or clips floating on the found on the web. Havent seen anything about japanese tv in general, prolly means nothign if you arent 100% fluent; and judging from what the rest of the world does see, its just silly game shows or a samurai drama. cheers, hb/
  21. crack smoking friend told me it was an offense to speed up if someone was overtaking you btw. personally i dont understand the rules on overtaking. only ever do it if someone is well below the speed limit, or driving crazy like. eg, drunk or dumass looking for sidestreet, house number.
  22. rumour mill among friends says they show drift on tv in japan. is there a regular tv show that televise drift. if so is it like circuit racing? weekly or just special events. friend in jap said he would record if i told him time, channel, etc. regards, hb
  23. if only i had an interest in cars back in my youth. i might have been able to apply science to an interest.
  24. Found the arrow. Tyres point the right way. Never realised/thought of this before. Always thought you put tyres on opposite corners. Guess the apprentoid did a switch when i wasnt looking. unless they were wrong to begin with =)
  25. Was also thinking it would be good to cross reference some part numbers on domestic vehicles. Similar to what adzmax discovered with rear suspension on his r34.
