  1. that looks mean as hell!
  2. My stagea before going to the trans shop on my mates patrol - patrol is high lifted, changed gearset diffs, huge tyres and just about everything else you would expect from an all out off roader
  3. On Friday I borrowed a mates patrol (which is so much fun to drive), collected a car trailer and towed my S1 up to the Transmission shop. 45 minutes after leaving he called me to tell me that there was bits of clutch and metal in the sump and would be taking the gearbox out today for inspection and stripping it down.. at 2pm I get a phone call saying that IIRC the 3rd and 4th clutch packs have blown, snapped band, worn solenoid and wobbly bearings. seems when I bought the car it all felt lovely and nice but I now suspect that the fresh fluid in the gearbox was a quick fix to keep it running and able to sell it.. but never mind, the car should be back before the weekend and will have all new clutches, bands, a shift kit and recon'd torque converter
  4. booked the trailer for Friday morning and lending a mates patrol so I can tow the Stagea to the auto trans shop to have an investigation.. hopefully back on the road for christmas
  5. yeah - not got the tools or space to strip the gearbox off myself sadly - got the skills though just all my gear is sat in the UK and im a long way from home. will give gzm a call see if they can quote me happy
  6. cheers dude keep seeing MV but a little too far from me in Mornington
  7. I found this - had 2 tyres replaced on the front for RWC and got some serious surging issues - chucked them on the back and its aok tyres dont need to be the same just the rolliang diameter does
  8. hello all, looking for a decent rebuilder in melbourne - I have a 96 s1 stagea thats gearbox has lost 3rd and 4th gears, so looking to have it rebuild ideally with hd clutch packs and kevlar bands and with anyluck a shift kit too. looking for some recommendations for people to call have had a few quotes so far and looking at $2500 mark before anyone says it.. no I dont want an auto, the mrs hates driving and can only drive and auto and its our shared family wagon thanks pete
  9. I lost a washing machine in the back when moving house - who knew they were so big! mostly though i have pram, childs things and junk soon to be lots of camping gear and booze for festivals
  10. yeah auto - any reason for them to have burnt out? or just one of those things with 160k? noticed my attesa fluid has risen quite a bit also, assume thats a result of the box having a death
  11. all back together - had a nightmare bleeding the coolant system and have just taken it out for a quick test.. its on boost and seems nice and strong, whilst pussy footing it up the gears i got into second and it wont shift up from second just slips and revs, new top speed of 60kph now is that an assumption that gearbox needs a serious looking at?
  12. the roof vent doesnt make much sense to me - but maybe its for smokers? and the rear guard unicorn shoe bar protector makes even less sense, you cant put it away if you load your boot up, and if its away and your boot is loaded you cant get it out.. Ive also got vinyl mats that clip to the back seat.. I assume theres lots of those around though the wing mirror lights are great for those early starts in the middle of winter
  13. so here goes 1. Fender parking guide - goes up and down by a switch on the dash and yes I have used it a few times for those super tight reverse parking moments 2. Roof fan vent thingy, it sucks in air on one side and pushes it out the other has 2 speed settings and is also the only light that turns on when I open the doors (currently have an airfreshener in the draw side for instant smell) 3. the unicorn shoe rear bar protector? it hides under the boot floor and velcros in place 4. 6disk changer in the rear left boot pod - such a shame it doesnt have the cassette though forgot to get a photo of the wing mirror lights but think I saw one a few pages back, and also have the rear bar plastic protector strip as pictured earlier too
  14. Not pressure tested the intercooler pipes - will be replacing the couplings as its not all apart - call going into hypergear today to see if they have service the turbo for me.. then its all back together hoping for an easy resolution
  15. any suggestions of my other problem ? the search function on this forum is taking a beating and not sure if I can look anymore! going to get the turbo looked at tomorrow as I have a day off then hopefully if its all well and good Ill be putting it back together and crossing everything its all ok
  16. not sure whats rare and whats not - ive got an airvent in the roof where the interior light should be - a pop up aereal thing for parking on the front left fender/wing and little green lights on the wing mirrors that light up when I unlock the car. also has a rubber mat under the boot floor covered in unicorns and horse shoes 6 disk changer in the rear left which doesnt have the cassette
  17. yeah just been reading about oil in the pipes and catch tanks - just seemed like quite a bit of oil still was so sure I was going to find a totally ruined turbo and now I have no idea whats going on or what else could be causing it to be a dick
  18. Oh and ive found quite a bit of oil in the inlet, also some in the right hand intercooler pipe, will this have something to do with it?
  19. No scraping. The exhaust doesn't move as freely as the inlet but still spins freely. Worth me popping it into somewhere like hyper gear for a check up now that its all off anyway?
  20. So yesterday got home from work and did the paperclip fault test... 5 5 meaning all is well. Feck time to investigate the turbo.. finished that this morning and inlet has some in and out play as does the exhaust wheel.. when taking the turbo off I didnt drop a spot of oil. I was expecting to get filthy. How much play is acceptable ?
  21. cheers dude - after reading about the ecu fault codes I noticed the TPS sensor too - I do hope that its just a nice simple fix although Ive not had a car like this before im quite mechanically and electronically minded so always very careful.. will look at picking up a consult cable if I dont get anything back from the fault codes
  22. totally blowing my mind this is - just read about the paper clip fault code read out - will do that when i get home from work and see what it throws at me - hopefully the ecu throws out some sort of code that can help me out before I start tearing it all apart
  23. Boost gauge is showing -20psi on throttle. Only gets to about 0 at about 4k usually shows 0 at about 1700 and rises above when on boost at about 2400 Most thing seem to post to turbo. But could be anything. This is my first auto. First turbo even first car that's had an ECU
  24. yeah if im stripping it all down id rather the piece of mind that its not going to fail on me again, specially with a few long road trips planned for 2014 (melbourne to byron and a tassie trip too)
