Man thast cheap, is there any reason why? -
I run 10/30 i dont want to run less then 10 due to my engine being a bit old. however ive been told 30 is too light or soemthing. im just so confused. all i know is i live in QLD atm with sumemr coming up it gets supidly hot up here and i want the best oil to protect my engine. I use motul oil and want to stick with it. but i dont think they make a 10/40
-
Dont take my word for it but maybe your engine is pinging?
-
Ok I read that website, Alot went straight over my head.. So I'm back at square one.
-
Yeah i run turbo light, I may have another look to see if theres a 10w/40 in the motul range. I was under the impression the 10w was the weight the oil is when the egine is cold, and the 30 is the weight when the engine is hot, there for the highter the number the thicker the oil the thicker the engine protection the lower the number the thinner the oil the lesser the engine protection however its lighter which is better performance does that sound correct? And for the record, im currently not modified

Just a quick question.. I normally run Motul 10w/30w in my rb20det .. as my cars done 120,000 ive decided to run a 10w rather then a 5w due for a little bit more added protection. However today i stopped into super cheap to get some 'cheap oil' to flush out my engine and the guy rekons i have to run 15w/40w due to 10w/30w is too light for australian conditions so which is the correct answer?

The odd thing is.. I never whipe with a rag, and my engine is apoparently a great egine according to the mechanics that has used it, so its a very odd situation. i would try and get photos but i think i got rid of most of it, ill try and photograph whats left tomorrow
-
Ok, Ill take a shot at it tomorrow - Just a warning that I have no idea what i'm doing.. - Take out All the 10mm Sump Bolts - Take out 2 Reinforcement Bolts (Located at the front? - Take out 2 bolts on box (Where ever these are?) - Take out 2 Bolts on motor either side (12/14mm) (Again, whereever these are?), - Take off Gearbox Cover Plate - Take out Back two bolts Think thats what you were trying to say in your instructions
-
Before I continue, will i need to replace th gearbox fluid by doing this?
-
Fark!! I cant be pullin my engine out! yet i need to fix this sump cover. Man this sucks. anyone know for sure if you do or do not have to pull the engine out to get to the sump
-
Syko - Dont even go there.. but for the record yes i do realise this and i am trying to get my hands on a stock blow of valve, the reason i did take it off is because i got dont for an atmo. then i put a pplum back and got done for a plum back as it was nto standard End of story Uhmm Yeah stock standard, it has a 3" cat back mandrel bent FACTORY exhaust. As far as im aware its a factory upgrade, I seriously can't think of any other mods, i may have

I started to un do all those tiny nuts on the sump today to pull the sump out so i can bang it flat.. however i have no idea how to get the sump out it seems to be one piece that connects all the way to the gearbox. does anyone know how to get it out?
-
Yeah its decent ... where would i get one of these winged sumps and how much am i looking at for one?
-
Oh no, loosing turbo bearings sounds bad.. 1. Yes it has, when i changed my oil 5,000 ago it had MORE of the crap in it 2. 5,000 3. Not sure what I was previously running, but when i did my last oil change i it with a Valvoline filter, not sure the model number .. maybe an R9? .. i mean its the normal sized filter, i can find out the model number for you if you need 4. No mods that I can think of, i did take off my blow off valve and block it off, so there for not running a BOV at all. 5. Used on the street only, however I tend to drive it hard on the street. (I do recall fishtailing till i blew the clutch/ put the engine warning light on / while sitting on 6 grand for possibly 10 seconds 6. Yes, times change but i approx. cool down for 3 minutes. 7. A few, A bit of gearbox noise, also some noise from my diff.. my "Drive train" ( the long bad that runs down the middle of the car to the diff) has some left and right move ment in it. 8. Not to sure, however i have not seen it tise above half way on the stock temp gauge, it could even sit a little higher then in the middle, but i can not confirm this. If it helps, i have a dent in my sump and i also have changed my clutch recently. Thank for your help, if you could try and get back to asap so i can figure out what to do Regards, Essential

I know NOTHING about Sumps.. so whats a Winged/Gated sump?

Hey, Ive put this post in the section simple because its coming next to impossible to get help on these forums these days, im unsure why but people who know there stuff have some how disappeared from this forum Anyway, I drained my oil today and it appears there was a fair amount of crap in my oil, which appeared to be saind grains or something, however i'm pretty sure it was not metal. anyway i drained my oil filter and came back to inspect the oil and it appeared to contain some form of plastic/ceramic or something.. it was much larger then the sand grain stuff and i was able to crush it. Does anyone know what this stuff is and how it's getting in my oil? also i use a 10w Motul oil, which is dark brown in colour.. and when i drained my oil this morning it was very dark. Basically i need some advice on what to do if im getting crap in my oil and my oil is getting really dirty, how can i fix this? thanks
