  1. There is really no one policing build quality and assembly quality- could be a contributing factor to some crashes. It is really up to the rider. In the instance of a crash I doubt they look at grip levels etc unless its fatal. Not to sure about the standards for tyres. My question to all of you is, how could you arrange some sort of rego system for bikes at under $10 per bike per year. Because I dont think you could.
  2. well my fine for riding on a foot path with no helmet says otherwise. . .
  3. a 950-kilogram vehicle costs $243 to register. Based on this my 7kg bike will cost $1.70
  4. or they could just stop them. . .did you read the article I posted about why we shouldnt have rego. It explains why items such as rego plates are a bad idea. .
  5. if the police see a bike do the wrong thing they would pull them over. . .
  6. Man I love these topics on forums. Many lols.
  7. sweet, finally I am getting through to people.
  8. Mate lets get some rego bibs on pedestrians?
  9. cheers mate thanks for confirming.
  10. My usual average is over 30km/h. wouldnt want to hit someone at that speed.
  11. One of my favorite parts from the second article "Wait … if boats have to pay registration, isn't it about time surfers paid too? And displayed registration, so we can film and fine them if they stray into swimming zones?"
  12. Here is an interesting article on why we should not pay rego. http://www.smh.com.au/executive-style/fitness/blogs/on-your-bike/why-cyclists-should-never-pay-rego-20120614-20bk6.html Have a read of these articles guys and then give your self an uppercut.
  13. here is an interesting article i read a while back on why it would be good for cyclists to pay rego http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/blogs/cycling-tips/why-cyclists-should-pay-for-rego-20100505-uawh.html
  14. rego runs at a loss mate. there is no surplus.
  15. Nah most of the people that shout at me when riding own a shitbox
  16. there is also just a few comments about us paying for up keep of the roads. Rego does NOT pay for roads. Rates and taxes do. Taxes like GST and alcohol and tobacco taxes. Yes fuel excise too. So when you see me riding down the road on my bike with the expensive wheels and me in my lycra and helmet on, that is all paying for our roads. If you are in a car the GST on that and the fuel excise also pays for our roads. If you pay income tax, that also pays for our roads. If you own a house and pay rates, those also pay for our roads. In a round about way your rego contributes to the pot of money that all government expenses come out of (including all of the administration and other expenses of registration), but if you looked at registration as a stand-alone item it is not profitable. your license only means that some time in the past, you managed to pass a driving test.
  17. You are missing your 1996 Holden commodore ute from your car list mate.
  18. Driver education is the key. And the 1 meter matter initiative should become law. That will improve safety. Not registration.
  19. Haha classic comments from motorists. the brake light system is new lol. I always ride with front and rear lights when its dark. You would be stupid not to do so . . running red lights is a minority really. I have real experience on the road commuting and general riding. I have been t boned by a car before where they went through a give way sign. I had a mate that was run off the road as a car was changing lanes. I couldn't tell you how many times I have had close calls with motorists let alone abuse from motorists. I personally think the problem is the cars and trucks.1 meter matters is a new initiative that hopefully gets passed as law. Where by a car must pass a cyclist by no less than a metre. Things like this will minimize accidents not rego for bikes. Since I started commenting in 2005 this idea has been suggested. . . heaps has happened since then at . . .
  20. This topic comes up so often. It won't happen. The government want more cyclist on the road. Why would they deter people with a charge. I have been caught without a helmet before. Got charged. The government needs to concentrate on the bigger problem at hand here. Cars not treating cyclists as vehicles. Its the law. We are vehicles. We can take up a whole lane. Its people who do not realise this that cause accidents. Driver education is what's needed not cyclist registration . . .
