  1. Thanks for the review. Would a HKS GTRS, HKS 2840, GTX2867 or GTX2863 be too big of a turbo? When pushing 230 + rwkw, do I need a better body kit or a bigger rear wing for the faster speed?
  2. I always thought that 14 PSI is the most boost to safely run on a RB20 engine even with the 25 turbo.
  3. This is something I found online at a webpage. This is if the car has been set up with the proper fuel tuning: "In comparing an RB25DET engine to a RB20DET, the basic agreed limits of an R33 Stock ceramic turbine on a R33 is 13-14PSi, so on a bigger motor its a situation like a RB20turbo on an RB20motor, turbo needs to work a lot harder to push the same air through the motor, a case of the turbo being too small for the motor. So the RB25 turbo, on a smaller motor to do the equivalent of 14PSi on an R33, is closer to 18-20PSi on the RB20 engine. Resulting in the same CFM an RB25 would be getting on 14PSi. It’s all relevant to engine capacity/ compression etc to how hard a turbo needs to work."
  4. Please read the beginning of the post, I have a series 1 R33 turbo on my car. I have a MINES boost up tune, so I am running faster than stock. The torque built up some.
  5. Besides the cost of buying the engine, putting it in, and registration fee and higher car taxes of putting a RB25 in my car, I just feel its a pain to have to change the speedo cable, use different types of coil packs, have to have the weird wiring, etc. If I put a 26 in the car it would be so much easier for certain things and parts able to use between the engines. But unless I get a good working 26 for cheap, I will buy a GTR instead of putting one in my car. How about the crank collar issue with the 25 if pushing high hp? Is that something that I would not have to worry about unless going high high hp? Is the VCT the thing that really makes the big difference in torque between the 20 and 25?
  6. I have noticed outside of Australia, many people seem to keep the RB20 and also put it into other cars. So I want to try to push as I said to get good fast performance out of it until I get the GTR. After your car gets up in the rev range, Does it perform well?
  7. ok So what do you use your car for, mostly track? Do you like the power you mentioned your car has?
  8. Maybe you don't understand, I am wanting to speak to someone here and now so I can ask that person hear and now. Maybe I have specific questions about the engine or their experiences with the engine, what problems they may have had, what things that helped them, etc.
  9. By revs you mean by keeping the rpms up constantly in 3000-5000 range? I notice when I take off from a stop not flooring the pedal but just normal driving, I hit 3000 rpm within about 4-5 seconds. So if I have my car to where it doesn't get really going until 3000-4000 rpm, than that wouldn't be so bad. But wouldn't any upgrade to turbos, cams, etc help with building up more torque? I am not trying to become torque man, I just want a fast car, which can keep up with Toyotas, evos, etc.
  10. I read some things about the RB25 and I thought I read several places that something about the oil pump or something to do with the oil that the RB25 has trouble with more compared to the RB20. I've actually heard a few people where I live mention the 25 is not all of that and its keep what I have or go RB26 or GTR(This is from tuning shops also). So I want to hear from people who have the engine in their car and who has done the change so I can ask about how it drives, speed, etc. Reading old posts from years ago(which I have) is not going to completely help because I am not going to try to PM someone or reply to a 2-10 year old posts.
  11. I've spent over 8 hours researching this. Didn't find answers to all of my questions. I want to hear from people here and now.
  12. Ive done a search, I want to get up to date experiences. I spend about 8 hours plus research this on many sites.
  13. Hello I have a R32 GTST with a RB20 DET. I am planning to build the engine but before I do I want to get some info on the RB25. What are its strengths and weaknesses? How is it when put into a R32 GTST? What are the pros and cons of putting that engine in a R32 GTST?
  14. Hello Everyone who has or has had a RB20 engine in a R32 GTST, I have some questions and want your opinions about some things. I have read some people think that the RB20 is rubbish and not so good of a engine to get good power. I think that it can be done. I will buy a GTR but for now I want to push my RB20 as far as it can go somewhat. RIght now I have a RB20 with a series 1 RB25 turbo from a R33. I have a MINES boost up tune, full 3" from the turbo back exhaust, intake, sports cat, Blitz return flow intercooler. The car isn't bad. I start boosting around 2500rpm depending on how I hit the gas, and the car gets really moving around 3000-4000 RPM if I am hitting the gas hard. What are your experiences with the RB20 over 300hp? How is your response? Acceleration? Who has touched the inside of their engine? Has it made a difference? I am thinking about putting forged parts in the engine since I can get good parts from the states and Australia which is cheaper than buying here in Japan. Also who has bored their engine to 2.2 liter or 2.4? How is it? Who has installed adjustable cam gears or/and Pon Cams? How was the car after that? My planned updates will be; NIstune computer, 550cc or higher injectors, bigger turbo, adjustable cam gears or/and Pon Cams, new oil pump(original is fine but the car is 25 years old), update with new hoses, etc. Maybe a Plazaman intake manifold, forged internals, etc. I think a responsive good street 400hp or close to it can be had without breaking the bank. After that I will buy a GTR. I have never visited Australia, but I assume that their are lots of long stretches of big open roads. Here in Japan, its not like that. So I am looking for good street power and some decent highway power. I will take the car to the track sometimes just to go fast. I have read though pages of post here but haven't really found the answers I am looking for. So what is everyone's opinions and experiences with the RB20 ?
  15. I live in Japan, so it might be hard to get the bottom end for a decent price imported here. How about a 25 non neo?
  16. Results for the hyper gear? I read through the RB20 Turbo upgrade pin. No one really says if their set up is laggy or not. But it seems like the TD06 has lots of power and there was a RB25 turbo highflowed with a rb20 exhaust housing which reached closed to 400hp but they had large injectors(1000cc I think, forget) and other big things done. Don't remember seeing anything about GTRS, or the GTX2867 and GTX2863. I read that the more modern turbos are more efficient and give more power.
  17. Oh, no that's too much lag. I asked a person from Hypergear about their turbo and lag and the only thing that they would tell me is that it is good for 350-400hp. Are the Hypergear turbo highflowed turbos laggy?
  18. Thanks, I Wont be able to use E85, is 100 octane ok? I reviewed the other turbos, in a easy to explain way, what is the big difference between them? I take it that the GTX3071r is bigger enough that it will cause lag compared to the other two? If I can get a turbo and have my car set up to where I can begin boost about 2500-3000rpm and have full boost by 4000-4500 rpm, that would be a zone for me.
  19. I am wanting to reach 350-380 on my car. I will buy a GTR later but for now I want to do what I can to my Rb20. I am going with Nistune for a computer. I want a good fast street car. No lag monster. I have driven my rb20 with its stock turbo with and without a boost controller so I understand the boost and other limits of that turbo. So I am ready for the next stage. Right now my car has a RB25 turbo that I just put on with a HKS adjustable actuator, aftermarket turbo down pipe, 3 inch front pipe and exhaust with a sports cat, return flow fmic which I am going to change to regular fmic, gtr fuel pump, pod. Getting 550 injectors, better fuel pump, Z32 Maf, and possibly ARP studs, depending on if the tuner says I need them or not, when I buy the Nistune computer.
  20. Ok thanks, all I needed to know about the Mambatek one. I will get it from a source that actually sells the one from garrett.
  21. Hello I have decided to get the Garett GTX3071R turbo for my RB20 Det. From what I have researched, it is newer turbo technology with twin scrolling. How much better is the GTX3071R compared to the GT2530, and the GTRS turbos? Also I noticed their are different shops that sell the turbo with different kits. Has anyone heard of the Mamba version?
  22. Hello I have put a RB25 turbo onto my RB20 DET motor. It has a HKS actuator on it. I didnt want to have to tap a nipple into my pipe before the turbo so I tapped a nipple into the compressor housing, the same as it is set up on the RB20 turbo. Will this work fine or should I tape a nipple into the pipe before the turbo? I searched and found both ways mentioned. Also when I set up a boost controller for this, I set up normally as far connection as it is done for the rb20? Just want to get the best out of it.
  23. Hello Before someone explained to me how to use the Google search function with a certain way of phrasing SAU in the search engine to find SAU posts. What is the way to do that?
  24. Ok I have read through the posts that someone gave me earlier in the thread, plus the ones that I found. Also I pulled up severl old SAU posts and one where someone went into detail about what they did to put a 25 into a r32 gtst and semi detail about the wiring. What am I wrong about and which parts? I am here to learn.
