  1. my mate got exempted on a car the family owned before he got his P's. the exemption was only for that car though - if he sold it he would not be exempted for any other.
  2. if they owned the car before you got your L's or P's then you could apply for an exemption.
  3. i had just jap as a back-up but i was hoping that someone might have one laying around. the amazing part was doing the fuel pump in 20mins haha.
  4. yeah i picked one up from justjap, just in time for my emissions test.
  5. hey guys, ive got an EPA inspection at midday and ive got a dead fuel pump. does anyone know where i can get a walbro 342 or bosch 040 fuel pump before 10am or even earlier? i dont care if its a shop, house or back of a truck. its urgent! cheers, joe
  6. ive got some unbelievable luck. my fuel pump has died! does anyone have a spare bosch 040 or walbro 342 i can buy off them??
  7. little update. NOx can be tuned out by reducing combustion temps. retarding timing helps this. a new cat wont necessarily help (i didnt replace it). ive richened up the map a little and im going to retard timing by 5 degrees. im going in tomorrow so i'll let you guys know if i pass.
  8. ive got a mate with an rx8 turbo that lives and tunes in hawaii. he also develops auto-tuning software for a few ECU's.. he might be able to tell me if there are specific places they hang out?
  9. if anyone would like to know what over $8,000 and 9 months buys you from hills motorsports, feel free to PM me.
  10. ok i just did the emissions test. looks like the only issue is NOx. the limit is 1.93 and i got a 2.56... i think ill richen up the tune a LITTLE bit as my CO is within limits of around 0.7 then replace the cat and try again. what a relief.
  11. you've made the right choice. i dont think id ever buy a full-time 4WD import because you are limited by what you can do with it, unless its the daily then it doesnt matter. im still tossing up on whether to sell my car and "upgrade" to something newer or not, problem is there is nothing else in the same class that is much better than what i've got with all of its current mods and spare parts/engines i have. my thoughts are; GTR - cant drift/overly expensive if its only street driven (keep in mind this will be my daily). S15 - pretty much the same. Supra - skyline's fat ugly cousin. EVO/STI - limited by displacement/internal strength of the motor. damn cars.
  12. hey mate, i sent you a PM with some notes. UPDATE: car is now running on e70/85. Caltex advertise it as having between 70-85% ethanol. a few things ive noticed is it smells a bit like vinegar/vegetable oil. i want to eat it. other than that i'll be tuning cruise and light to moderate boost before i take it in tomorrow to see if it passes. i havent advanced timing at all, i will do this when im a bit more confident and have done enough research to be able to do it on the street without passing the speed limits! it also feels like it picks up a bit better, feels smooth. unfortunately it wont be a full-time thing. its purely for EPA purposes.
  13. sorry if this has been covered earlier, my wideband doesnt read in lambda so im stuck with the gasoline calibrated AFR's. what ive read is you divide your GAS AFR by 1.5 to get your actual AFR on E85. it looks like the AFR's on your GAS calibrated AFR dont change too much, ive ripped a table from: http://www.e85forum.com/ntopic777.html&amp...721aef0b42b578a Idle/Cruise = 14.7 - 15.2 Light Load = 12.5 - 13.2 Pre-WOT load = 11.5 WOT = 11:1 - 10.5 these figures are for gasoline calibrated AFR's. does this sound right to the pro's?
  14. im going to disconnect the arm so the wastegate gets pushed open with any exhaust flow to prevent it from hitting any kind of boost.
  15. signing this petition will only give them numbers of how many people have modified cars, it wont actually change their minds. i was listening to the process of how a bill is passed. at no point do they say "are there any petitions against this legislation?". they read the bill and its positive effects, what it intends to do and as soon as they say "emissions this, emissions that", it will get passed. dont forget these are people who get driven around and/or have a car that is no more than 1 year old. what you SHOULD do is get an engineers certificate for a modified car that fits in this category before this is passed, because if this bit of legislation comes in, the next step is to make it harder for older cars to obtain one.
  16. update: ive got the im240 test on next wednesday at botany. my plan is to fill up half tank of 98 and half of e85 then tune it over the weekend. the reason im doing that is i dont want to have to do any heavy tuning before the test as its a pain in the ass to tune timing on the street. im going to disconnect my actuator too so i dont hit boost during the test. that should get me a pass as they only want to see that your CO is under 8g... THC, NOX and CO2 dont matter.
  17. i bought one too
  18. Don't have one mate. I've spoken to a few guys and they reckon the amount of force I put on it is sweet for an rb25. If it was an rb26 I wouldve used one as it's almost twice the torque.
  19. I ended up using a stubby philips head screw driver in the ring gear which held up against the bracket. I got a 1.5m breaker bar and tightened it up till the bar was on a pretty ugly bend. She'll be right!
  20. thanks for the info guys. i compared prices on the same thin-wall socket set with ebay's, the site was $30 more expensive than ebay. if i cant find it at repco or autobarn ill just order it off ebay.
  21. thanks for that guys, ill try shoving something into the ring gear and see where that gets me.
  22. my car is an auto, it doesnt lock into gear unless there is pressure in the system (i.e. car is on).
  23. so most of us know how to get the crankshaft bolt off (by levering a breaker bar and 'cranking' the ignition), but its getting it back on and tight that is a problem, especially those of us who do it at home without a rattle gun. has anyone tried this; my pics are crap but you kind of get the idea, the red part is a chain that you wrap around or bolt to the chassis to stop the crank from turning while you torque up the crank bolt. has anyone tried it?
  24. fabricate a 'cover' that goes over the front of your oil cooler core. that should work pretty well.
