  1. can i ask where you're located?
  2. okay - case in point. the price of the JDM R35 GtR... versus the ADM GtR. or..... USDM GTR versus ADM even that's branding it as a NISSAN you look at how exxy the current gen maxima costs against it's rivals of camry, 380, commodore and falcon.. imagine what having the word "infiniti" written on the boot would allow them to charge... =| infiniti is a high priced brand... but - then again on the other hand as many bad points i can see about it.. (in my opinion) i also must say - it's about TIME that this happened...
  3. ermmm... i was quoted $1300 nsw to perth - yours seems a little pricey IMHO but then again i dunno about sealed truck... see if you can buy a car cover via an agent or something n get them to put it on maybe? i guess stone chips are about as inevitable as they are attainable...
  4. is this inclusive of PS3?
  5. ...did that answer your question? or can anybody correct me in case i gave falsified info?
  6. curlyjimbo - looking at your sidebar it says "none yet" - i'm aussiming you're new to imports or somewhat young - and i don't really know what you're asking here ie: how much would an 88 model /what/ cost to import? in short - 1988 or pre 1988 cars are sold at auction in japan - generally speaking these cars are obviously OLD and will have a hard time getting past japanese shaken (shah-kenn) (which is an annual vehicle inspection applicable to cars of this age - it may even be more frequent than this so don't quote me!) basically not many buyers in japan want these cars - too much headache for them to own... you can attain cars of this age for about as little as 1000 / 3000 aud FOB. this depends on what build they are - obviously ae86 corolla will sell for higher than say - a toyota crown. on top of this you have brokerage fees, frieght for RORO boat, tax, gst, customs, all in all you would have a pre 1988 car for about 6grand - that's landed, complied, registered, everything... compliance however on these cars is very light on however - it must still adhere to ADR's and minor things must be done such as installation of child restraint points, chings of fuel filler cap (i think) and maybe some other things ... a pre 1988 car is a very cheap way to attain a unique or rare first car - ie a Z20 series soarer or old supra etc etc (these two cars i imagine would cost more than my projected budget i'm just showing examples) the only issues you'd run into is safety - mechanical and maintenance issues... but that said - they will surpass most cars you can attain in australia at this price range and age... and uniquenessiquity. the *only* other issue i could imagine is it's now the year 2010... finding cars that are built pre1988 are becoming few and far between in japan!!
  7. lexus /today/ as in this /very day/ are no longer re-badged toyotas. being that lexus is now in japan - means that there are no more "soarers" they're now "sc430's" there are no more altezzas they are now IS / LS series cars etc etc basically the cars are no longer being marketed as toyotas at all - only lexus's... reason being... the branding of the Lexus's are far seperate to toyota's other cars - realistically it makes sense in that regard... such as the LSF - apparently toyota will be losing money on every unit sold JUST to make a name for themselves in that market - the technology put into modern lexuses is enough to warrant carrying a seperate brand to toyota infiniti i don't think offer a product seperate enough to say "nissan" to warrant having a seperate branding - however the concept of locally purchasing a fuga is enticing to some... it would mean a pain in the arse for importers' and exporters' businesses who use the imported nissans primarilly as their bread and butter you mentioned that "certain people will still go for the nissan" if infiniti were to launch in aust - it would mean that you CAN NO LONGER go for the nissan unless the car is a specific build date a-la the R35 GTR jdm... Nissan australia i beleive would make it very difficult to import skylines any which way they could - because they want you to buy THEIR product... not japans less expensive - possibly superior feature packed version of it... at most point however i just think it's rude that nissan is muscling in on a market (presitge car buyers who have to be persuaded away from bmw / benz / audi) giving itself an uphill battle to market it as a brand to those people meanwhile and pushing aside a market of people who are faitful to the nissan skyline - or nissan badge that are willing to import their own cars and deal with headaches *just* to drive something unique - a market that for YEARS nissanAU had turned their backs on anyway - call me a whinger but it's a rude thing to do to this market...
  8. didn't the V8 L package or active soarers have it?
  9. WOW baron thanks for a lengthy and informative read! that makes sense really... even yesterday i was driving behind a delica spacegear that was simply DUMPING oil on the road - and smoke pouring out from under the car - i was driving thinking "thank fk for sevs" sevs is good to an extent - that extent is basically compliance costing 5 thousand dollars. instead of what it used to be. in reality though - 15 years ago /today/ is the year 1995. R33 GTR - Toyota Supra - first gen facelift soarer - assorted lexus's and VIP cars would now be available this would devalue these cars *if* it were still in place - which would be a bummer for owners!!!! then again i was reading a thread that some guy was bad mouthing ben lippah from j-spec because he used his services to import a VIP Q45 under 15 year rule - verging on zoku-sha styled car.. full fibreglass gaudy bodykit. coilovers fully wound down. about 40mm off the ground and he was on forums bagging jspec because the kit cracked etc ... and at the time everyone was agreeing "they should've taken more care" ra ra ra - not ben's fault you can't get the illegally low car onto a boat ramp??? so instances like that it's good for business that it's NOT here for exporters and importers because there's less liability should something go wrong OP - i'm sorry for changing the subject here!!!
  10. not that my input matters here but that's a pretty clean looking rig for an 88! pre 88 cars are very easy to comply from what i hear
  11. Baron - i thought it was just total Shitters and the backyard compliance that ruined it? ie my friend bringing in a cefiro - that is still in the country to this day... won't say which one... but /it/ was brought in as a total hack - oil leaks everywhere, used as a street drift car in japan. everything about it was garbage - he got it for free... or $1000 FOB. i thought it was cars like THAT which ruined the 15 year rule? when you get a minute can you please elaborate what hilux surfs and delicas did to help abolish it??? for years i was dark on the gubbermint for getting rid of the 15 year rule. these days i'm glad they got rid of it - keeps the imports exclusive. and keeps them safe and controlled with official documentation!
  12. bahaha @ 135K auction fees that's the demographic you get at auctions though i once had a day off work when i was 19 went to one of those "police stolen goods" auctions with a mate - never before had i honestly felt like i was Ginger Meggs. long story short -the stuff that happens at auctions in aust is crazy at this auction peopole were paying about $300 for stolen mountain bikes - bikes- stolen and abused... and "repco" / "dunlop" brands i was going to buy a brand new in box elec triple foil shaver - it was the at-the-time brand new phillips shaver that cleaned itself when on standby i remember it went for $180 it retailed for $185 or 190 by recollection. save 5 or 10 bucks on an impulse purchase for something you dont even need? another thing that was there - jewellery. abundances of jewellery, recovered from theft. the purpose of jewellery is to show passers by that you are a person of wealth class and taste. wearing jewellery that belonged to someone else that was once stolen, then recovered. then purchased at auction at a (what you beleive to be a) discounted price - - - - - - NOTHING is classy, wealthy or tasteful about that!
  13. net-high-five.
  14. furthermore - what if the brand re-negs AGAIN and pulls out of australia AGAIN you watch how much the infiniti was worth when infiniti was in aus... bought for 150K and depreciated steadily... then when the brand withdrew... japanese import Q45 (same car - just imported) were attainable for much cheaper - meaning genuine infiniti owners suddenly had their rug puleld from under them what happens if the brand fails (which i personally think it will - there's imply too much competition at their proposed target market with heirachy of branding from mercedes / bmw etc) what happens if the brand fails AGAIN and aust goes back to importation of the V36/37 skylines? the owners of adm infiniti will be incredibly pissed. and with excellent reason
  15. edit: Mickey - Exactly. the nissan enthusiast will also know that this will mean the V36 will no longer be availabe to import unless a specific date the nissan enthusiast should also remember the shitstorm that nissan caused when selling the ADM gtr - "strictly NO support for fringe dwelling importers" the nissan enthusiast will also know that this will mean for owners that selling their JDM will become difficult... and the V35 value may plummet... but furthermore and observation i'd like to make ^^^lexus sc430 but to the "toyota enthusiast" this is a z40 series soarer. made by toyota - sure the branding changed to lexus even in it's local japan after 2004... but as the soarer, these cars have depreciated steadily... as they should. meanwhile in australia - a 2001 sc430 still fetches aobut 40-50 grand!!! same with the lexus is200 / toyota altezza... in japan - worth what they're worth. they're a fairly basic sedan. but in aust - OMG A LEXUS WORTH HEAPS will the arrival of infiniti in this country mean the end of the import skyline enthusiast - the same way the branding of lexus somewhat signalled the end of the affordable up-spec toyota enthusiast? also - do you think inifiniti will survive as a brand in australia? this would be a huge pain - it would signal the end of the ability to import... and raise prices to extortionate levels - with luxury car tax also. IF the brand fails... it will mean they're squeezing out a huge market demographic that actually WANT these cars - selling to people who won't listen to their branding?
  16. well done to all suggestions - but to say the supra wasn't ahead of it's time - really?? a car designed in 1992 that still looks amazing to this day - to incorporate sequential twin turbos into a 3 litre straight 6... THAT's not engineering feat??? THEN to be one of the world's first cars to add variable valve timing to it's sequential twin??? not saying you're wrong just - i think the supra... given it's unique styling. iconic looks. and advanced engineering was WAY ahead of it's time +8 to the soarer - 1991 built car with GPS capabilities... with a shape that was essentially kept rolling for 9 years of solid production. perfection that was constantly improved upon. i will say no more. now - my addition... is on the tip of my tongue i forget the model but it's a 1991-93 realease (ish) bugatti that's painted royal blue ZB then numbers i think... AH got it... EB110
  17. derrrr you idiot my name's not ACTUALLY Sherlock it's Rowan!!!! haha nah i knew that - i'm just saying there's no way you can actually save petrol - if you do it'll cost you in other things ie overinflate your tyres will give you great economy... but decreases braking power and makes your wife think you're a bit of a cunt
  18. hey guys - i've read a lot of umming and arring over this topic in motor journalism but this time it seems pretty "go-ahead" Nissan is branching it's infiniti wings out to australia... again... Infiniti was in aus between 1991 and 96 selling the Q45 back then at the hefty price of $150,000 the brand was withdrawn subsequently and sales ceased 2010 nissan aus are looking to expand the brand to australia - for round 2 what is everyone's thoughts on this?
  19. yes ^^^^^ but if you follow a truck on say - a highway... your fuel consumption goes down but you gain stone chips cracked windscreen poor visibilty cos can't see past the truck dangerous annoying driving behind a truck esp during acceleration not really worth it to save a few dollars a week!!!! this is what annoys me - people who can't afford to run a car - yet insist to own a car... why not get a pushbike? or even motorbike?
  20. ....so kinda like watching the movie "hard boiled" yeah? cops driving in nostalgic j-cars. haha this particular car would be interesting to read a write up about though - like how much it hypothetically went for sale for - why it has such high km, what sort of owner/owners did it have... it'd be a heart breat to pay money for a gttr new then have it auctioned off for 2 million yen or so... such little return!!! ...i guess that's why the cluster's about to be swapped now though =P
  21. haha well i did not know that!!! how am i supposed to know about your personal life... geez... i'll be in touch shortly (no obligation touch) and we'll see where we're at when i know where i'm at and what i'm doing!
