  1. Edit the above post to include the following part from CAMS Schedule E - "2. FOR SPEED EVENTS In addition to the tyres listed above: i) Any tyre that is certified and marked on the tyre wall with E-Mark, D.O.T or AS standards shall be acceptable for use in Speed events" So while Hankook Z214 are not on the tyre list they are advertised by the maker as being D.O.T compliant. Thanks David for that info.
  2. Ran across this demo video on the GitUp the other day.
  3. Yey, Sup Regs and other info is out now A couple of points, all cars must be either road registered or log booked and tyres are restricted to those listed in CAMS Schedule E eg curved groove Hankook TDZ221 are OK but twin groove Z214 are not. Read it all for yourself though, all those who have expressed interest in joining the Zed group through David should have it all in your inbox.
  4. Bathurst. As far as the paperwork goes it should all be happening this week. For those who have EOI'd David Robertson re the Zed group please follow the instructions you will receive, basically David is acting as a sub organiser for the promoter. More good news for the Zed group, we will be offered the best section of the camping grounds and don't forget we will have a part of the covered garage area for free. Volunteers. The call is out for volunteers to assist in the running of the event so here is a great chance to participate without risking the car, plenty of perks too. If interested contact Paul Clemens email [email protected]
  5. As is now I'm guessing at least 1250kg. Anyway, I've done my time at Lakeside, an absolutely brilliant track but doing a few years there without a scratch will do. Now it's Morgan Park, Bathurst and Phillip Island, maybe QR. For Lakeside I'll nominate Neville as my proxy Any news on Bathurst anybody?
  6. lol seeing I'm a "senile old man" perhaps I should cancel Bathurst. Or perhaps when the current incarnation of the Zed is sorted I should go out to Lakeside to catch up with old mate Harry, there's a plan Anyone got sup regs for Bathurst yet? We are all in the hands of the organisers now.
  7. These are your words Harry so going on them compared with the current capabilities of the over 50 year old sports cars that I'm familiar with I make a lap time prediction that you don't like. Heavy iron block single cam engines for a start, plus an absence of all the progress that has been made in car dynamics and general track friendly features over that time and you say in effect that you can't beat them. Rubbish. Of course if you don't want to spend reasonable money on dampers and tyres and other track basics then your self fulfilling prophecy may well come true. Whats Neville up to these days Harry, what was his best Lakeside lap time in the old budget built 260Z again? Anyone else coming to Bathurst? Sup Regs should be out soon for those who have expressed interest.
  8. Well you are an adult Harry and you do minimumise the capabilities of your cars all the time, just like you have done with this ? model MR2 which is by any measure a light car. I think you did great in the Soarer around Lakeside but you don't need me to tell you that, times speak for themselves. As for my efforts well they were the best I could do trying hard and that's good enough for me, the 280ZX as it was would have gone faster in better hands although it was no lightweight, well over 1000kg. Basically I built that car, it gives me a lot of satisfaction to build something good, drive it, improve it. It would be way cheaper in the long run to buy an Evo and let the car do laps so I could big note myself about what a top driver I am lol.
  9. Depends a bit on how hard the brakes can be applied or how hard you want to apply them, according to that ^ graphic the HC+ will apply more retardation than the HC-CS at the same pedal pressure. Which is best for you depends on your braking setup and personal preference.
  10. Lol Harry, you certainly take a 'hobby' seriously. Actually I was trying to encourage you to do the best with what you have instead of spoiling it by making excuses all the time, pity you take all this personally and are so defensive. Anyway, I'll still be interested to see how the ? model MR2 goes. As for me I'm just looking forward to experiencing Bathurst as are most of the others I know, If I wanted to have a real go I'd enter the sprints. Of course being able to open up the V8 is an attraction, carrying extra weight without being able to really use the power is a bit frustrating. Incidentially, when 'chasing' Seton after 1 1/2 laps I spun out at Siberia.
  11. No fight lol, Harry changes cars like some change undies and if it's likely to go near a track he starts making excuses before it ever gets there. Even buys crappy tyres to get a ready made excuse EDIT What model is the MR2 Harry? Stock W20 weighs 1179 kg, W30 996 and a 240Z 1044kg. There is not a lot of interior to strip out of the Z so if a roll cage is put in ............ Z blokes don't go to Lakeside much but I recall that Richard Graham got into the 62's a while ago, nice car but pretty basic, still has drum brakes rear and the engine has been going for years, cams carbs and exhaust would be about it, revalved Bilsteins . Cast pistons, it was a budget build that has outlived it's original intention. Seriously, if you have a proper try and stop messing around I can't see why the MR2 could not do very well. You have the driving skills.
  12. 86's are pretty good, I hung onto one for a lap and a bit with the crappy running Zed the other day at Morgan Park, it was a Neal Bates 86 race series spec one and being driven by Glenn Seton, boy am I dropping some names here lol. Anyway, it's handling and acceleration showed no sign of it being over weight or having any other impediment, went like a 60 second Lakeside lap car in my humble............ Only sorry that I didn't have the incar camera going.
  13. Plenty of average spec Zeds doing 63's though Harry, costs can't be compared because a pretty ordinary standard Zed will bring ~$15k and it costs a lot just to bring one up to specs that all modern cars have except for their good stiff chassis. When I heard of the best time the 86 you mention did I was pretty suprised, thought it would do better than that. Lol at the '280Z', I used to rubbish him for being one of the slowest Zeds out there but Lakeside is a lot about the driver and maintaining momentum as you well know.
  14. Latest on the topic has 300+ drivers registered with the organiser of which 49 are on the Z Car Club Q regularity list. So, as expected, this event is 'selling out' quickly. If want to get on the Z list then I suggest you contact Dave toot sweet.
  15. 63's!!! Old Zed cars do that, the very best do under 60's. The best driving experiences I've ever had were when pushing it around Lakeside, street driving has no comparison, you must be getting soft Harry
  16. Lol the 'razor sharp handling' and any twin cam three litre engine in a smallish modern chassis adds up to good lap times, there have been a few under 60 sec Lakeside laps done by older inferior spec cars as you well know Harry so the expectations are high and the pressure is on Don't cop out by using crappy tyres either, I'm watching.
  17. Thanks for that info John, how do you find the HC's overall stopping power? I like a pad that will almost stand the car on it's nose when applied hard.
  18. Will check out the Intima pads, has anyone tried the Project Mu Club Racer pads? They are available in stock locally.
  19. Bit of a bump here, looking for experiences with various track only pads. My present Carbotech XP10's are bloody brilliant, great bite feel and modulation and stand the car on it's nose retardation, kind to rotors too. Only problem is that they wear quickly compared with a good street pad and have to be US sourced. Which is not as cost effective as it used to be. So, any recommendations other than Hawks and Ferodos?
  20. It was a bit of an impulse buy Roy so it has not been used yet, the old DigiLife one is till working fine. There are GitUp demo videos around though.
  21. Sounds like it should go well Harry, sub 60 second Lakeside laps easy.
  22. A MR2 eh Harry, you like a handling challenge, looks like you have one right there
  23. What have you bought now Harry? Hard to keep up with your purchases Sorting out the TCU (transmission control unit) is just about done now for the Z, what a PITA that has been. But I love the result, it would not suit everyone but it suits me and it's bloody fast.
  24. The regularity time has been reduced from 2.40, to 2.36 I think but would have to check that to make sure of the exact time. Most of us who are doing regularity normally do sprints but the general consensus is that, particularly for first timers like me, the Bathurst experience is the most important thing. It's not like we will be going slow, my V8 Zed should be capable of 260kph there with a 3.69 diff. One of our lot who is quite experienced has a race prepared 370Z, he intends to do the sprints.
  25. We have several Zeds from WA who are going to run in our group, all experienced motorsport blokes a couple of who participated in Easter Bathurst. But we need more regularity Nissan/Datsuns, where are they all????
