  1. what you are talking about is called bump steer
  2. A sway bar simply wants to return to its original position. In a corner, it will resist the outside wheel being compressed, and on the inside it will also resist the wheel drooping, meaning less weight on the inside wheel. Both of those things increase the tendancy to oversteer, and give you less exit traction. I ran my 180SX with no rear swaybar. With 6.25kg rear springs, you don't need a rear swaybar IMO. Rear bump steer WILL be an issue if you have adjusted camber wth a camber arm and have the stock 'traction' arm. Sorting that out is a time consuming process but makes a big difference. The car won't be so twitchy and will be alot more settled. I'd suggest making those two changes and the car wil be transformed. I'd also try 2 or 3 psi lower hot pressures. I ran the FZ201 at 31-32psi hot on my 1250kg 180SX. I also run 32psi hot on my1530kg Soarer with Nitto NT01s. edit - yes FZ201s come in Medium and Soft. I used mediums. They did change their compounds a while ago though. The original ones were faster/softer. That's the only reason I didn't buy them again for the Soarer. The original FZ201s were great bang for buck. The later ones are not much good.
  3. I'm tipping it's rear bump steer.
  4. The last couple of years the drivers were certainly complaining they had to manage thier tyres over the course of a qualy lap otherwise they could go off before you finished a single lap, but this years tyres are 10x more robust and that just isn't a problem. In Qualy they are ragging on the cars more than they have since Pirelli came into F1 - the cars have less downforce than ever in the modern era and they have to throw them around in qualifying and the races to an extent, as mad082 said. They even get an extra set of tyres to burn up in Q3! I didn't see many guys going 9.8/10ths in qualy at Spielberg - there were lockups, spins, and people running off the track all over the place! And as you say, Kimi struggled in qualy in the Lotus as well, but his strength was managing the tyres during the race driving to a performance window, particularly on the hottest tracks where the Lotus was the best car at being gentle on the Failrellis of degredation.
  5. Kimi's rallying experience should stand him in good stead then. A Finn who isn't comfortable with a car moving around under him, should be ashamed of himself - he really must be past his best! 2 is not about half of 8...
  6. what argument? I see a discussion with a couple of different points of veiw... so I'm not sure how you work out who's right and wrong, but the results speak for themselves. Alonso's years at Ferrari don't count for much when the entire chassis and driveline are completely new this season. It's not like they've spent the last 5 years tuning this car to his liking. They both started at square one this season. Can't get a fairer basis for comparison than that. And like it or lump it, drivers will always be compared to their team-mate, it's the best yardstick you've got. It's always been that way. Kimi is one of the most experienced drivers in the field, an ex world champ, and used to be touted as one of the most naturally gifted guys on the grid. He used to be fast in whatever he put his arse into. That's not the case anymore. And Ferrari certainly expected him to be hassling Alonso - that was why they brought him in. Even RBR said they were prepared to give Dan 4 or 5 races to get on the pace. 8 races is more than enough to form an opinion I reckon. My prediction is that Kimi fans will have to continue making excuses for the rest of this season... and next. If Ferrari don't dump him again!
  7. I am (well, was I guess) a big Kimi fan. He just isn't doing the job at all this year in the Ferrari. Rationalise it any way you want, but after 8 races his best result is 7th and avg finishing position is 9.5 - just in the top 10! Alonso on the other hand, has been on the podium once and has a string of 4ths. How bad can the car be? Kimi is a woeful 12th in the WDC only ahead of shitboxes like Lotus, Sauber and co. Not exactly impressive. Last year everyone was comparing him to Alonso...All I can say is that Lotus must have been a good thing! Vettel, as you point out, is clearly struggling this year too, but his stuggling is a position or two behind his team-mate when his car doesn't have obvious problems. It's not at all comparable to Kimi's (lack of) performaces.
  8. because Mark's not their other driver uh-oh...
  9. Kimi used to be hugely fast, and even looked the goods in the Lotus. But its beginning to look like he only went to Ferrari to retire and really isn't terribly interested. Will be huge lols if they dump him again mid-conract! Couldn't agree more about Williams whole approach to racing there. That was shit. I know they needs a good points haul, but someone needs to tell them you get more points for 1st or 2nd than 3rd & 4th... The team just refused to take the race to Mercedes. Dissapointing, and probably pretty stupid, because their car was obviously very well suited to that track. They may not get another chance for a win until Monza. They had the pace to match Mercedes, their tyres didn't grain any more than Mercedes. They just didn't bother trying to race them from the pit wall. Two thumbs down Williams. If you don't race to win, what's the point?
  10. confusing branding by Kumho. "Ecsta V700" = V70A model. You can see the V70A on the sidewall as well. "VictoRacer V700" = V700 model. http://www.kumho.com.au/blog/products/ecsta-v70a/ http://www.kumho.com.au/blog/products/victoracer-v700/
  11. woohoo - more new content yesterday including a new track, Red Bull Ring/Speilberg in time for this weekend's F1 race there. It's not bad either - blind corners, uphill, downhill... I'll add you guys over the weekend. cheers
  12. no the V700 and V70A are different types/patterns of semi slicks. But he was asking about slicks - i assume the V700 was a typo - the Kumho slick is S700. Which are obviously a different tyre from either of the semis.
  13. the coma was induced but they cut the medication to bring him out of the coma months ago... It's still obviously a massive positive that he's out of the coma now and has been moved from the Genova hospital. Apparently when awake he is 'responsive', but the degree of that responsiveness has not been revealed. Highly unlikely to be the same after such a long coma, but there's no point speculating that he's a 'vegetable and will never see the light of day again' ffs
  14. 32-34psi hot as recommended by the Kumho distributor. The same pressure I ran the semis at.
  15. yep, I bought a set of Kumho S700 because they were cheaper than semis at the time. Had 2 front blowouts in 3 track days, one left one right. And the third one I got to replace the first blowout, was smoking and about to let go when I had the 2nd blowout! That was on a 180SX with unchanged front suspension setup that R888s and FZ201s, and even cheapo gemstone street tyres survived for years without any issue. I wouldn't touch Kumhos again after that experience. And Kumho simply didn't want to know about it.
  16. yeah, the racing line... you are not allowed to change your line when someone has an overlap, that's the rule! Even if it just their front wing that overlaps. In this case is was wheel to wheel contact. Perez does not have any entitlement to look up the inside of Vettel if there is another car already beside him - which clearly there was. You can't go around swerving at a guy who has an overlap in a 300kph braking zone. Bu tthat's not what Vettel was doing anyway - Vettel was 2.5-3 car lengths up the road and Perez was nursing rear brakes at the time!
  17. yeah, massa's fault! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUEbC1bf2sc
  18. nah, that was you turning it into a pissing competition... apparently pointing out that the merc was 160bhp down and had no rear brakes is nit-picking to "rain on the yocal drivers parade". More accurate to descibe it as Dan "making the most of a tiny little window to get into the lead" deadset
  19. nah, I didn't misinterpret what you said. You said getting into the lead was one of three tiny little windows he had to make the most of. That wasn't a tiny little window. That was a yawning chasm that even Chilton would have managed to "make the most of". All he had to do was drive past him down the straight with about 50kph advantage on his side. But if it makes you feel better to pretend that was a "tiny little window" of opportunity that Dan "made the most of" to steal victory, then go right ahead with your delusion... RE Massa - shouldn't have been that close? Are you serious? It's hard to pass someone if you're not allowed to get close to them. You'd be singing a different tune if Perez had jinked at Dan taking them both out when he squeezed past... We wouldn't be hearing "Dan's fault for being so close to him" or " cost his team a million bucks" or "Red Bull needs the results, and the points and having a car in the wall achieves nothing", would we?
  20. How is saying he made a great pass on Perez "raining on his parade"??? Deadset, you parocial Aussies are touchy! Nor is saying that Merc had not MGU "raining on his parade". It's just true. He blew past down that straight like Rosberg was standing still. If you want to talk about picking stuff apart and unfairly talking down drivers, that was you "Compare his efforts with, say Massa's, who ended up in hospital and probably cost his team near on a million bucks in repairs and lost prize money." when it was clearly Perez's fault.
  21. lol I wouldn't call the pass to get into the lead a "tiny little window". More like a gaping big bloody hole! Rosberg's Mercedes limping along to the finish line down 160bhp less and no rear brakes... It was a great move on Perez around the outside on the absolute limit - Seb commended him on that in the driver's room before the podium, but Perez was having rear brake issues as well.
  22. yeah the Senna content is good. Both the old F3 car and the Lotus F1 are good fun, in very different ways. They sound pretty good too. I like the 80s versions of Monza and Brands Hatch too. boiracer & Gts30t - my psn id is hrdracer - add me! Out of the dozen or so people on my list from when GT6 was released, only 2 of them ever seem to do the seasonals anymore. It's more fun with more ghost lines!
  23. If they are, I couldn't notice it - and I've had both R888 and NT01. The Nitto is also designed to be buffed down to a 2 groove cheater slick for optimum dry performance. Perhaps the people who claim they're noticeably better buff them... They must have changed KU36 since I've had them! Really stiff sidewalls and faster than RSR's are not the way I'd describe them. I found that they worked best at about 42-44psi like a normal street tyre due to their soft construction... NT01s on the other hand, like other proper semi slicks with stronger construction, I run at about 32psi hot and let the tyre's construction do the job it's designed for.
  24. I don't even bother waiting for the podium interviews... Lewis couldn't see through the tears at the end. Was hoping Dan would snatch 2nd off him... Kimi was bloody unlucky, but good to see him get his mojo back in the car.
  25. lol lucy hasn't got the balls to go through with that! but I wonder how many penalty points you'd get these days for calling it in advance? lol been a while since we've seen race bans/suspensions
