  1. Penrite Sin is a mineral (not synthectic as the branding suggests) 600degree fluid and worked great on my GTR at QR. And is only $16 500ml - about half the price of Motul and others.
  2. I think a few people are confusing double clutching and heel-toeing. in a synchro box there is no need to double clutch. rev matching with heel-toe is all you need to do. if you do that properly, the synchros get a harder time up-shifting on the track. I'm with 260DET. definitely not enough time to double clutch downshift at places like Mt Cotton hillclimb. And even if there is, by the time you've done the second clutching while braking hard, your road speed will have changed so much it was all to no avail anyway.
  3. that will be interesting - here's a bit of a comparison to start the speculation: Tsukuba is 2070m 8 corners, including 3 hairpins. QR Clubman is 2110m 6 corners in total including 2 hairpins. Giant's best is 58.08. Tsukuba looks alot more technical than QR Clubman (judging by my vast Gran Turismo 3 / PS2 experience!). So all the best to the Queenslanders! Will be an awesome experience for them! Hopefully we'll be able to see it on a DVD!
  4. so PRSC and QR haven't completed the leasing negotiations? because if they already have a signed lease arrangement the golf club can whinge all they want - its too late for council to change anything. so can only assume they haven't got that far? There's no actual info about it on the LMRE site or Council press releases, and I haven't heard anything in the local papers either (I live in PRSC, about 10 minutes from Lakeside). maybe our best hope now is the council amalgamation with Caboolture and Redcliffe. Get some fresh blood in there who'll hopefully want to make use of every possible revenue stream, and with an impartial view at the situation. the Golf Club built beside the track, not the other way around. They had a viable club before the racetrack closed. So they won't loose any more income than they gained by its closure. The trains straight across the road make alot of noise anyway.
  5. am I missing something here? PRSC Tender Process for Lakeside: Closing date for EOI – 31 January 2006 - done Invitation to tender – early March 2006 - done Tenders close – end of April 2006 -done Council decision re tenderer – end of May 2006 -done - QR/Tetly won the tender Leasing negotiations – June 2006 - I assume this is also done. QR put out a newsletter in December 2006 saying they planned alot of rectification work ont he circiut and should have the place open mid 2007. I can't find the newsletter atm, but I'm sure I have it on my home PC somewhere. did the leasing negotiations between QR and PRSC break down?
  6. Hi Michael, the hillclimb is owned and run by the MG Car Club. www.mgccq.org.au they have a calendar and email contact details there for more info on their events. You need to join a CAMS affiliated car club and get a CAMS licence $88. The Club you join can give you the form, or you can download it from CAMS website. you can get a list of Clubs here. Holden, Northern Districts, MG, Gold Coast Tweed, and Aus All Rally Group are some of the cheaper clubs - around $50. other than that all you really need is a helmet, long sleeve cotton shirt and jeans, non-synthetic shoes (canvas, leather), and some basic safety gear for the car - a fire extinguisher, and a blue triangle to mark the position of the battery. That's it! would be good to see more Skylines/GTRs out there. They have a Come and Try day on Sunday, 30th September. You can get more info from [email protected]. They're always popular, so it pays to register interest early. Good way to get a feel for the track without any pressure, and with some very fast/experienced drivers to give tips and some local knowledge. normally get alot of laps in too, whereas a hillclimb event you normally only get 4 or 5 runs. The next hillclimb event is the week before that on the 23rd of Sept if you can't wait or want to get straight into the competition side of it. They also have a sprint at QR on the 22nd if that interests you. Harry
  7. I was a Stage Safety Officer on the SunCoast Classic tarmac rally run recently up here on the Sunshine Coast. Part of that role is taking incident reports from competitors at the end of the stage. On my stage on Day 1, one of the Thoroughbred Touring guys in a Porsche GT3 RS compained to me that the stage was "too dangerous". When I asked why he said "There's gravel all over the road". My response; "Yeah, its a rally"
  8. a couple of 400+kw GTRs automopho page 6 automopho page 17 smugmug gallery p2 unfortunately the blue one crashed quite heavily into the bank on the outside of the 2nd loop, damaging the front right suspension and bumper. There's photos of it in automopho's gallery if you really want to see that. rapid 180SX automopho p13 and my new car at its first event. ran a 46.86 yesterday which not as quick as my old GTR yet (46.2), but still has lots of potential left in it. much more difficult to drive at this tight technical track than the GTR was. Good to see some more late model turbo cars coming out these days! The 180SX was running pretty good times, and the white GTR was also going well. The guy in the blue one hadn't beenthere before and was looking better on each run until he unfortunately overdid it a bit. Hope they keep coming back - they've got the power to be challenging the class record when they get more familiar with the track.
  9. well I can't find the gravel pics of my GTR - yet, but there's one in my avatar. They're only from an autocross though. Here's a couple from a tarmac rally last year. Photos thanks to www.suddenlysideways.com My previous car - a Datsun 1200 coupe with 146rwbhp L18 built to Improved Production rules. having some fun at Morgan Park: I swapped the GTR a couple of weeks ago for a mates 3J log booked Datsun 1200 coupe (plus some cash). Very similar to the 1200 coupe I built myself before the GTR came along, only with twice the horsepower thanks to the CA18DET... no pics of that yet
  10. OK. the next one is the QLD v NSW Sprint Challenge Oct 27-28! I'll be there in my new track toy - a CA18DET powered Datsun 1200 coupe (got rid of my GTR for something fast!). would be good to have a few GTRs there to beat
  11. yeah, QR is in pretty ordinary condition. I bet it won't be long before the V8 teams are refusing to come back here. will be interesting to see what the driver say this weekend! Morgan Park is only 2hrs from Brisbane and its a very good track - technical and challenging with a good variety of corners. I'm probably going to go out there next wednesday for a session in my new race car - get a feel for how it handles before the next hillclimb I might enter Pittsworth too. A couple of bloke I know are running and I'd like to see how my new car goes against them.
  12. I'd much rather drive another hour to get to an interesting track - you know, with corners and changes of elevation. and without those massive humps in the braking areas...
  13. lol nice work - he was in the thoroughbred touring category. supposed to be putting around under a certain speed limit...
  14. which lambo? the old black muira or the new, seriously fat gallardo?
  15. only news of the event I could find: http://www.duttondirect.com/motorsport/view_article/id:2981 And a little bit of discussion in QLD forum: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...p;#entry3219751
  16. Siddins is always fast. I've had some good dices with him at Morgan Park's QLD SuperSprint Series in the old days with my IPRA Datsun 1200 (2000cc) but he always came out on top. I got him back at last year's QLD Challenge Rally with the GTR though. Anyway, on our stage on Saturday (3-10 Diamonfield) Siddins beat Richards by 3.5 sec, as well as Denyer, Quinn etc. Only the Skelta was quicker IIRC. That was a good way to spend my last weekend with the GTR - the new owner picks it up next weekend. About 700km of nice country roads over the weekend, and as Stage Saftey Officer I was allowed access to our stages after the road closure made the 1deg morning at Kandanga worthwhile...
  17. I have the Bathurst 91 (I think) edition of Auto Fiction with a big story on the Gibson GTRs. I'll scan it for you.
  18. I'll be there too - I'm a Stage Safety Officer for SS2-12 Montville Hill, SS3-10 Diamondfield, and SS4-8 Brown's Creek. If you see a white R32 GTR with Stage Safety Officer on the windcreen, come and say hi. Street Party Saturday night and the officials party Sunday night should make it a pretty good weekend. There's a R33 GTR competing too - one to watch out for if anyone's spectating. Harry
  19. membership in CAMS car clubs varies alot and starts from around $40 frm clubs like Northern Districts Sporting Car Club , Holden Sporting Car Club (who don't actually have many holden members!), Surfers Paradise Auto Racing Club (SPARC) - if they're still going... Holden Sporting Car Club, Gold Coast Tweed Motorsport Club, and Northern Districts & others hold lots of motorkhanas on grass and bitumen. ANd they're cheap events - from $30-$50 entry MG Car Club run heaps of Hilclimbs and even intro days to encourage/teach new competitors. They're happy to have any type of car compete there. You don't need to hire the place for yourselves to get out there. I can understand them not wanting to hire their facility to a non-CAMS club like SAU. Thee's lots of other motorsport out there too - street sprints, QLD SuperSprint series (huge fun!), dirt sprints & autocrosses on a smooth dirt track right next to QR/Willowbank - they're planning on sealing that next year I believe. And Sprints at Carnell (Stanthorpe) now too, which is a great little track. Plus there's road rallies with a few speed tests too which can be alot of fun. But if you want to compete against other Skylines, it seems the only place that ever happens is QR - the planet's most boring motorsport venue. You don't need a CAMS licence for that - its AASA. I've been competing for years and its very rare to see a skyline anywhere except QR.
  20. Penrite now make a 600deg fluid too, and it was only about $16 per 500ml. Worked well for me in the GTR at QR, which is very hard on brakes. And almost half the cost of Motul.
  21. awesome! much appreciated mate. Harry
  22. I'm confused with the list dissappearing. am I in or did I miss out?
  23. cool. pm sent
  24. are passengers allowed? if so count me in!
  25. tram-tracking won't be helped by worn out tyres, particularly tyres that are worn unevenly. Wider tyres are more prone to tram-lining, and uneven or low tyre pressures can also contribute to the problem. anything in the steering system that has any play in it will allow a wheel to move slightly and steer the car causing these kinds of probelms. Ball joints, tie rod ends, the steering rack itself, control arm or castor rod bushes... if the ball joints are worn, start by replacing them. Even if it doesn't fix the tramlining, it still needs to be done. If all the steering components are OK and the wheel alighment is fine, get some new tyres and see if that improves things.
