fronts 17*8" +7 with 235/45 Federal 595SS rears 17*9" +15 with 245/45 Federal 595SS Hot Stuff brand (they've just got to be good!), made in Japan. Have obviously been recoated sometime in their life and bits of the new powdercoat have chipped off in places from tyre fitting machines etc. No gutter rash. tyres have good tread, with the usual inside wear on the rears. See pics below. they were on my R32 GTR when I bought it. $500 ono

you're joking aren't you Willo? let's see what you were saying before the event: So you obviously knew you were on semi slicks and would (sorry, "should") be running against the likes of Russel and Cam. Wishful thinking there The cars at the pointy are not only quickest, but better setup, more consistent and more reliable. While I think the dial-in and least spread events would have been won by these guys anyway, at least the rest of the field had a chance. From my point of view I have zero chance of winning anything and will get more track time in the morning so I'm debating which event to participate in. For the guys at the front of the field and from a spectator point of view I'm sure they want to see the fastest car win. Of course this is just my opinion and open to debate. nah, you don't care about winning - you didn't care so much that you were thinking about not entering the shootout because you'd have zero chance against the others on semi slicks. You must got all zen about it sometime between then and now huh? maybe the free track day prize mellowed you out a bit. So it seems Paul felt sorry for you having to play against all those fast cars on semi slicks and put you in the street class instead. Shame the rest of us in street class didn't know that this was going to happen and we'd all have zero chance - I know I would have liked to have the option of not entering and saving the $200-$300 instead of entering with no chance of winning, but we didn't all get that option like you did. ($150 entry + AASA licence + fuel + brake fluid change easily adds up to over $300). Harry "if you're not cheating, you're not winning"

my only problem with it is that we were told right fromt he start in this thread advertising the event and numerous emails that there was a class for cars "running semi slicks only" and one for normal street tyres. That's why I entered - I don't have semis at the moment, so I figured the street class looked good because you wouldn't have to run against people with semi slicks - there was a different class specifically for them. These tyres they ran (Kuhmo V70A) are clearly a semi slick, and the excuse that they are street legal is just rubbish - ALL semi slicks are street legal. I don't see why its such a big deal to expect that cars on semi slicks would be in the "Race Cars :- running semi slicks only." class? The infuriating part is the absolute rubbish excuses from Paul for not reclassifying them into the correct class. It would have been very simple to fix it before the event when it was brought to his attention that some cars in the street class were running semi slicks. If the event was advertised as one class for all, then fine, but there was a clear distinction that there was a seperate class for cars "running semi slicks only"
-
unsurprisingly, the 2 cars allowed to run semi slicks in the class not for "semi slicks only", where everyone else was on normal street tyres, came 1st and 2nd. The red GTR #32 ran a 58.53 in the final shootout on the sprint track. Would have been equal 4th in the race class.
-
the only reason I mention the mods to the red car and how serious they were taking it with crew measuring tyre temps etc all day and recording data on prepared setup sheets, was to point out that I don't think they were naive enough not to realise they were actually on semi slicks as Paul said in their defense. There is no doubt over wether the Kuhmo V70A is a semi slick. I think the prize for the fastest street car should go to the guy who was the fastest on street tyres - the 2 door STi if I'm not mistaken. Good on him - they are impressive times for a relativey standard WRX on street tyres. He well and truly had my measure while I was running.
-
I don't know what the big deal is either, why won't he put the cars on semi slicks in the class "for semi slicks only"? There was only 1 rule FFS a couple of other observations: 1. there were 2 prizes of free tracks days offered for 1st and 2nd in street class, and 2 cars running semi slicks in this class from the start of the event. coincidence? 2. also coincidentally, those 2 cars in question were a R32 GTR with competition number 32 and a R34 GTR who got competition number 34. I don't blame the WRX if he scrounged up a pair of semi slicks later in the day after seeing others in this class using them from the start. It was obvious by that stage that the rule was only there to be broken anyway. You obviously didn't hear the owner of the red R32 GTR go off when I Paul went over and asked "Have I got you in the Race Class mate?" after I brought it to Paul's attention that he was running semi slicks but was in the running order as street class. Paul told me not to worry about it, he was probably just in my group because the lap times were similar - if he was on semi slicks he would be in the race class. But this bloke called me a wanker straight away and argued black and blue that they were not semi slicks and he should not have to run in the "semi slick only" class. This car was completely stripped out, with only a rollcage and a single seat inside, no air, no heater, semi slicks and he told me alot of effort put into setting up the suspension for the track. I don't believe for a second that he didn't realise he was "running semi slicks" and should have been in the class for "running semi slicks only" "good faith" and "spirit of the event" my arse.
-
Seems perfectly clear to me was that the spirit of the event was that cars on semi slicks would be in one class, and those without semi slicks would be in another. Not all but 2 of them. All semi slicks are street legal. The question is why do these 2 guys get special treatment and be the only 2 allowed to run semi slicks in the street class? Either apply your reasoning that semi slicks are street legal equally across the board and reclassify all those on semis as Street class or apply the above rules for the 2 classes equally to all and reclassify these 2 cars that ran semi slicks to the race class. You can't t run one set of rules for everyone else and another set for these 2 cars.
-
The thing is ALL semi slicks are DOT approved and street legal. They could have said that about any semi slick they bought. All of the cars in the race category could have said exactly the same thing. the rules said anyone on semi slicks would be in the race class, and that's what we expected. Just because they didn't understand the concept of what a semi slick is doesn't mean the rest of the street tyre class should have no chance because 2 guys were running semis in the wrong class. If these two cars made an honest mistake and didn't realise they were purchasing semi slicks, fine. difficult to believe, especially considering one of those cars was stripped out, rollcaged, and had guys crawling all over the tyres with infra red temp guns, and filling out setup sheets with tyre pressure details and everything all day, but if that's their story, fine. I just don't think the rest of the street class competitors shouldn't be the ones to pay for that 'mistake'. They're semi slick tyres and they should have been running in that class, regardless of whether they bought them as street tyres and entered as street class in 'good faith' or not. One of them would have been 4th in the race class anyway. but then there's no prize for 4th hey? Baboo is right - its about the compound. The Falken Azenis and Federal 595RS are not true semi slicks with treadwear ratings around the 180 mark. They're street tyres that look flash. They are only a very marginal improvement over a normal road tyre which have treadwear ratings around 200-240 in most low profile sizes. The Kuhmo V70a has a much softer compound with a treadwear rating of 50. Most semi slicks have treadwear ratings in the 40-60 range. Yoko AO32R were 60 treadwear. Toyo Proxes RA-01 (which also 'look' like a road tyre, much more so than these Kuhmos that only have 4mm tread depth brand new) are 40 treadwear. The Kuhmo V70a are now the control race tyre for CAMS Group 3K Saloon Cars (http://www.cams.com.au/bulletins/B07-017%2...-AU%20Tyres.pdf). They previously used the Bridgestone RE55S and now lap quicker on the Kuhmos. Tony Sullens won Targa in a WRX on them a few years ago too.

Well done again Paul, another smoothly run day and alot of fun. The event format was great too, something a bit different to the usual track day stuff which made it more interesting for the competitors. Good to catch up with a few familiar faces too. unfortunately my afternoon ended early with a leaking coolant pipe to the turbos - at least that's where I suspect its coming from, kinda hard to see anything in that engine bay! made it home no worries with the radiator cap half released to limit pressure build up in the system and reduce the leak. Shame cause I was having alot of fun racing around on those Federal tyres! 1 hot lap and they turned to jelly underneath you! One little gripe though - a couple of other competitors in the street section were running semi slicks and should have been in the race class. J-Boy, unfortunately Cam rolled his Evo8 at MtCotton a few weeks ago: http://www.performanceforums.com/forums/at...mp;d=1174041216 http://www.performanceforums.com/forums/at...mp;d=1174041240 http://www.performanceforums.com/forums/at...mp;d=1174041259

I don't share Tetly's optimism. I've heard there is a court case disputing the PRSC tender process. Even if it doesn't get up, it will no doubt delay things... I might swing past Lakeside on the weekend and see if Tetly has started any of that work he was so enthusiastically talking about.

benno, L2S CAMS licence allows you to enter Super Sprints where passing/racing is allowed, but with limited numbers of vehicles on the track. The Qld Super Sprint Series is run at Morgan Park by Warwick District Sporting Car Club. They have 2 series of 4 rounds each. Each round is a 2day event and you get about 5 sessions of 3 or 4 laps, depending on which circuit configuration they're using. 4-6 cars on the track at once, again depending on the circuit used, starting in pairs separated by a gap of about 10 seconds. The pair can race or one car can sit on the start line for a couple of sec to let the other go if they choose not to race - timing starts when you move, not when the lights go out. It's too late to register for this year's series, but you may be able to get in next year if you're interested. Spots are very limited though so you have to get in early - they take 100 cars for each series and are normally well and truly over-subscribed with entries. I competed in the series for a few years and had an absolute ball - great events and an awesome track. I've also done the Conrod SuperSprint at Bathurst a couple of time. NSW has a Super Sprint series at various tracks over the year. Lakeside, IF it re-opens, will be under QR's control and will be predominantly, if not exclusively, AASA sanctioned events so you will probably not need a CAMS licence for that venue either! fwiw, I still hold a CAMS National Rally licence - it doesn't get used anymore, but I still have it... all the events I do these days I could just get a cheaper L2S. Noel does have a point though, I only recall having seen 2 other Skylines competing anywhere apart from QR. It's a bit dissapointing to see them so under-represented in club motorsport. I don't think the cost factor is the real issue - plenty of WRX's and EVOs and other late model stuff are out there competing and the majority are daily drivers.

I'll skip the pizza in that case. I have a UHF so I'll chuck that in the car. see you guys there.
-
looking forward to this. it will just be me at this stage, Tash has to work - the hours suck when you work in hospitality industry. will be good to meet some more SAU people and do a cruise i didn't help organise for a change. plus I can show off my new wheels that arrived last friday. Ian, whats the go with the pizza - do we chip in a few bucks for a couple of pieces, or order a whole pizza?
-
I'm sure they're a hoot to drive, I just don't like them! I took an instant disliking to them from the first time I saw how disgustingly quick they can be on a racetrack. I used to run a 2L Datsun 1200 coupe (IPRA race car specs with full cage etc) for years before I bought the GTR. Towards the end it had 146bhp at the wheels and ran a 48.37. I think it was a big advantage learning the hill in a lower powered car. It would be alot tougher learning the hill in a rwd car with 250KW as you've done Yeah, that diff would be a bit of a limitation on the track with the power you've got! My GTR actually has the inside rear wheel in the air when I start accellerating out of the hairpin - both times through it! Have to feather the throttle to keep it from wheelspinning too much - the open front diff isn't actually much help out of that hairpin either. what kind of times are the clubman kit cars doing there? I don't really pay much atention to them...
-
I vote to stick with the Skyline. With the power you've got and decent suspension there's no reason it can't go alot faster at the hill. My GTR doesn't have that much power and has run 46.2 with a very basic suspension setup - ie just buddy club coilovers, no camber correction or anything. But awd and less power would be easier to drive around there. Stick with it - the times should keep improving. Just buy that cheap runaround and save the aggravation of trying to sell the 34. Besides its a damn nice car. ps- i hate clubmans, so this may not be the most unbiased opinion...
-
Hey Ben! that's right mate, and faster too The GTR has been my daily for the past 2 weeks while I fix the Patrol's power steering. So I've got no complaints about its reliability, except for the air con which packed it in on Friday... IanB, I just realised I won't be able to help scout the route on Thursday night - got cricket training. But definitely in for the run itself. You should be able find the Mailman Track and Bunya Rd OK on whereis or a refidex if you want to have a look at them. Just turn L into the Mailman track off Samford Rd, follow it to the end, turn L at the T intersection onto Bunya Rd, follow that to the end and turn R at the T intersection onto Eaton't Xing Rd. Its only about 1km from there to Clear Mtn Rd on your L at the top of the next hill.
-
I could drive that route in my sleep if you want a hand scouting without getting lost. Put me down for the cruise too just to prove not all GTRs are always off the road probably plus one passenger depending on her roster that week. I know a nice windy little detour from Samford Rd across to Eaton's Xing Rd to Clear Mtn via the Mailman's track and Bunya Rd too if you want to check that out. Bit more interesting than the main road through Samford, but slightly longer. I know Campbell's Pocket Rd pretty well too, there are a couple of blind corners over crests that could be a bit of an issue at night but it is a very nice road, if a little narrow. You could do a loop and go down the other side of Mt Mee one way and back up the other road if you wanted to, but there's plenty of driving in your route already.

better remove me from the register. the old girl finally sold and is off to her new home on the weekend!

Track Day, March 28, Awd Shoot-out Finalised Gtr Vs Evo Vs Wrx
hrd-hr30 replied to MountainRunner's topic in Events
me too, as per my email yesterday. Street Class, Federal 595SS tyres. Car is in full street trim. Have run a 1:01.59 Sprint & 1:01.85 Sportsman on these tyres at an earlier Time Attack day. the format sounds like alot of fun. good stuff Paul! -
sounds good. I'll probably run on street tyres again.
-
I'm interested too any chance of it happening at Lakeside?

How Often Do You Guys Change Oil?
hrd-hr30 replied to ZENNON's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I'd probably bring it down to around 2500km/3mths, or every 3rd track day. There's absolutely no need to change after every event. That's roughly what I do - if I've just been hillclimbing at MtCotton, I stay on regular 5000km changes, because a short 46 second run doesn't get the oil hot like sprints do. Otherwise I halve the service interval. And use a good fully synthetic oil. -
not what I'm saying at all. I just don't believe these guys are running as fast as the open wheelers, like they claim. I have raced against some of these open wheelers at a number of places including Mt Cotton (we're talking Hillclimbs, not the skid pan ffs ) and Noosa over the years and know just how fast they are. No 600bhp S13 on street tyres is ever going to challenge the likes of Warwick Hutchinson's open wheeler on any hillclimb. I don't care how good Josh (or his mates) thinks he is... well there's exceptions to every rule, but the odds are heavily stacked in my favour! You very rarely see a first timer at any event set the world on fire. But as I said before, I'd love to see them do an event - I'd gladly eat my words if they're as good as they say they are. And it would be nice to have a few more modern cars competing up here. not at all. most of the guys runniing in the hysterics are complete duds. And alot of them will happily admit that they are just there for fun. But they are very different from the guys in their open wheelers running the kind of times that Nismo_Boy claimed he can do in his S13. Yes, they are seasoned racers, and yes they are pretty bloody good. And so are thier formula libre hillclimb specials. no I've never suggested that a well setup Jap car couldn't do quick times, and yes it definitely should beat the old Toranas etc. But if you had any idea, you'd realise how ridiculous the notion that they would wipe the floor with the open wheeler hillclimb specials is! maybe it is possible that josh is as good as he and his mates claim, and maybe he is as fast as the open wheelers, but its highly bloody unlikely mate! Like I said, I know some of those guys in the open wheelers, and I know how insanely fast they are. I'll take the odds that Josh and his 600bhp S13 wouldn't know which way Warwick's open wheeler went! Maybe he is quick, but I'll bet he's nowhere near that quick! I'll also bet my bottom dollar you haven't seen these open wheelers and their drivers in action! Perhaps you should go and have a look at the results of the recent Australia Hillclimb Championships run in Bathurst a few weeks ago. They ran the Esses Hillclimb, which is really a power track with only 2 real corners, where you come to the Dipper in the reverse direction. Everything else is pretty much full throttle acceleration apart from turn 1 just after the start, and even the fastest of the sedans, an extremely modified 260Z with awd running gear and 600bhp couldn't match the open wheelers there - it was 13th outright. It would have no hope on a tight course like Noosa! The fastest LM turbo was a R32 GTR, which by all accounts was a pretty impressive car driven very well. He was about 6 seconds off the best of the Formula Libres and 28h outright. He did really well in amongst the Sport Sedan times! And he certainly wouldn't have been on normal street tyres! But I bet he'd be no match for Nismo_Boy - after all he can run damn near as fast as Neil Farr's open wheeler! who, by the way, was 5th outright at the Australian Championships... maybe you're right, I take it all back! Josh's S13 on street rubber without any race experience except up there on the public road every day would be right up there with Neil and the best hillclimbers in the country, not to mention one or two from the UK... I don't know what I was thinking questioning his times! shame josh didn't still have his world beating S13 and couldn't enter...
-
awesome! I'll definitely be there! do you know what will the noise limit will be? and will it be measured or just at the organiser's discretion - ie "I think that car sounds too loud - go home" like it was with Total Driver recently? I guess I'm jumping the gun a little - the details may not quite be ironed out yet between QR and PRSC... or yourself and QR for that matter. I'm just keen to know because I recently had to remove the centre muffler on my car because it split, and its quite a bit louder now...
