My understanding was that orange indicators were used on the series 2 R32's. And clear-ish ones used on series 1 models. And as far as the side indicator issue goes, i think it's to do with the compliancing of the R32's when imported. Some cars must have gotten away without putting side indicators on if they were imported before a certain date (not sure on the date). From factory, the 32's had no side indicators. In that zoom mag cover shot, those clear indicators look alot more clear than what i've seen any stock 32, so i'm guessing that those items are aftermarket. Here is what i believe to be series 1 indicators:
