  1. Below is a copy of an email I have sent to the editor of the West via their web site. Regardless of circumstance this is a tragic accident and my condolences to all involved. In regards to your article title "Boy Racers Spend Big for life in the Fast Lane." I am a 32 year old Australia (not of Asian descent, not that it should matter) and I own an imported Japanese sedan. After reading this articles on page 5 of Fridays West I think Luke Morfesse should have a close look at the vehicles involved in fatal (or any accident) over the past few months and I am extremely confident that both he and yourself will discover that more commonly available locally manufactured vehicles have been involved in the majority of these. It is poorly researched articles such as these that give the general public a negative opinion on everyday law abiding Japanese Import Car Enthusiasts such as myself and a rapidly growing number of others in our state and country. Next time you drive on one of our freeways and you see some questionable driving skills (or lack off) take a look at the vehicle they are driving and then have a think about the article you have published, nothing but an extremely poor biased attempt at sensationalizing an extremely tragic event for all involved.

  3. Hey ease up on the auto bashing, it's a hell of a lot easier to drive in peak hour traffic from my joint to ossy park in the line (auto) than the my gf's ulsar (manual). And corret me if I am wrong but wouldn't it be quicker to get down to 1/4 without having to worry about changin cogs. 2 cents added.

  6. Hey Dudes I used to race go-karts on dirt, it is totally sik. Wet clay track same as speedway but not a basic oval track we turn left and right as you do on a normal road circuit. Excellent way to learn how to throttle steer (dirt track driftin). The Karts are exactly the same as black track racing but we run Burris dirt track tyres (very simular to wets). Not very many ppl are aware that karts can be raced on dirt so just thought I'd let u know. See ya

  17. For those of U who have absolutely no respect for your tyres Cams Media Release Today CAMS and COAG open up new possibilities for Australian circuits CAMS Press Release 28 Aug 2003 CAMS Chief Executive Officer, Dr Rob Nethercote, announced today that the range of motor racing events run under CAMS will be expanded by the end of the year to include new vogue events such as burnouts and drifting, an initiative welcomed by several Australian circuit owners. This new initiative comes as a result of a series of constructive meetings of the Circuit Operators Advisory Group (COAG), in association with CAMS, over the last 12 months. Circuits holding a CAMS track licence will be able to obtain a CAMS permit to run activities such as road safety initiatives, beginner and advanced driver training, drifting events, burn-out competitions, cruisin’ and go-to-whoa events. Chairman of COAG, Mr Adrian Chambers, general manager of the highly successful Barbagallo Raceway in Western Australia, supported Dr Nethercote’s announcement. “The ability for us to run this new wave of events opens many commercial doors for Australian circuits. These types of events will be a great addition to our motor sport calendar,” said Mr Chambers. Dr Nethercote also believes that this initiative will be of benefit to sport development and road safety. “These events create a great opportunity for the further development of motor sport,” said Dr Nethercote. “It gives us the ability to cast the net wider to find young motor sport talent and also to enhance opportunities for the motor sport community to extend its support to road safety initiatives.” The latest meeting of COAG took place on 26 August 2003 and was attended by COAG Chairman, Adrian Chambers (Barbagallo Raceway), and members, Jon Davison (Sandown Raceway), Geoff Arnold (Eastern Creek Raceway), Jeff Boulos (Oran Park) and a number of CAMS representatives. COAG represents all circuits and reports to the Australian Motor Racing Commission and the Board of CAMS.
  18. IMPORTANT We have received written confirmation today from DOTARS that their application of the 15 year rule will change on 1st October 2003 from a year only designation to a month and year designation. For example, this means that a February 1989 model would be eligible for import in March 2004 and a November 1989 model would be eligible for import in November 2004. Most affected will be models such as MX-5's, MR-2's, Celsiors, 300ZX's and R32's as these were only made from June 1989 and onwards. Some RX-7's, Supras and other models made in early 1989 will obviously still be eligible for import in early 2004. DOTARS have never applied the rule this way since 1992 when it was first introduced, however they have obviously decided to do so now to slow down the import of 1989 models in early 2004. All we can do is to act on the best information available and to warn of the risks prior to purchase, which is always our approach for all customers, then to supply updates outlining any confirmed changes to the rules, which is the purpose of this e-mail. 1989 models will still be sent to the Mailing List, and as usual it is up to customers to determine the risk and timeframes for themselves and to make their own decision. A phase in period and / or special exemptions for those that have already bought vehicles relying on the way that DOTARS have applied the rules for the last 11 years, would be an obvious, reasonable and responsible approach. However, at this time neither has been indicated by DOTARS and no further detail has been supplied other than the above information. Specific queries should therefore not be addressed to us, but to DOTARS themselves at [email protected] or on 1800 815 272 if calling within Australia or 61 26274 7444 outside Australia. The website address is http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/ Given that they are probably being inundated with similar questions at the moment, it is recommended to keep your questions short and to the point to allow for a quicker response. Written applications and enquiries should be addressed to: The Administrator of Vehicle Standards Vehicle Safety Standards GPO Box 594 CANBERRA ACT 2601
