  1. My manager at my previous work had one, pimping 450hp.... I was not a fan. Pro Cheap to buy Kinda look cool with the right kits Targa top (if that's your kind of thing) Con Turning left isn't as good as turning right (weird hey) Targa top (makes the body flex more) Shit to work on (or expensive to get somebody else) Most places simply refuse to work on them Hard to modify At least twice the price to make skyline performance with equiv mods Old No space for such a large car Heavy... very heavy It's not a smart move.... but the trade would be ~8-10k your way. I use to be a 300zx fan... until I drove one. I'm guessing you want forced induction so why not look at: S14/S14A (gts-t skyline in 4 banger form) WRX (AWD 4 banger turbo but weak gearbox) Pulsar GTIR (GTR in 4 banger form) Toyota MR2 SW20 Turbo (2 seater, turbo action) Toyota Soarer TT (luxury, beautiful inside, but must get manual) R32 GTR (awd TT mosnter) 180SX Type R (S14 in sex form) RX7 (fast and fun... but rebuilds and fuel) I would go for all of those over a Zed... but careful with GTIR with clutch... it's exxy as engine has to be removed. Soarer is the toyota Zed only without the bad... except for the heavy. Good luck, hope you enjoy what ever you choose!
  2. Depends what you're after. I looked at a 2 door manual for 13k... got the check out of randomness. It turned out to have a few issues (asked mech for quotes... $$$ expensive!!). I kept looking... test drove a bunch from 15-18k. Ended up picking one for 15k, 1 broken wheel stud, and possible bearings (found out it wasn't so all good). Stud has been replaced, front tyres replaced and RWC. I had a Master check from RACQ. The car is worth more, has a few mods, decent km's (cat back exhuast, apexi rsm, safc II, stock boost/turbo, 17" rims, geniune momo leather steering wheel, blitz bov, new heavy duty gtr clutch). Up in Brisbane these go for 16-18k depending. Owner had full reciepts of all work done since imported and complied 6 months ago. Was for a quick sale as he just lost his license (haha u-turns). So far it's gone well. For 15k I'm happy, but it's just luck, it really should have been more. This is a Series 1 1993. I'm speaking Brisbane prices here, and tidy cars. 15k will usually get you a 1993 with 100+km and a few problems for you to deal with. Just keep looking and don't rush, it's taken you 18 years to get here... a couple weeks won't mean squat. I have to wait an extra day for new tyres on the front... I don't really care, it lets me work more Keep looking champ... I read the posts... where are you located? I love a good challange, finding models that are decently priced and good condition. Just play the time game, somebody always wants the cash more eventually. Heck there is a clean 4 door R33 in Brisbane going for ~13k, female driver, RWC etc... Heck I think it's less! Auto though... but damn it is clean (though you should always get checks!!). Good luck!
  3. Thanks ob1! Ahh goodo, the car is super black. Pickup Thursday! YAY! Thanks, Ben
  4. It's interesting to see these points. I cop a lot of flak for being younger and getting the skyline (I haven't even picked it up from seller). But I am going to do the right thing... I am almost on my opens, and I'm sure I could have waited. Only problem is banned high performance cars won't really help. Honestly the biggest danger I see is guys in older commodores and hatch backs pulling "cool tricks". I have spent the last couple months in a Eunos M500 and before that a Twincam Corolla. These cars are more then capable then getting to the speeds, heck a commodore can out do the corolla easy, however, being a sportier model it's suspension is far better. Really it does come down to proper training... I didn't see it as my right to drive... and I spent a long time with a driving instructor learning everything I could, whats an extra $500 for my life? Nothing. Another issue is driving instructors, honestly, I tried a couple before I ended up with whom I went with. Some are there to make money, they really don't care. They don't teach some totally basic things (watching my friend goto a crap instructor... I tried getting him to get another...). I was in the car with my mate driving his dads magna, manual etc... and driving instructor hadn't even explained how to come off throttle between gear changes... my friend just took his foot 100% the throttle and then put the clutch in. In wet conditions this sudden loss of speed (even worse on smaller 4 cylinder cars), can send the car into a slide. Don't just bag us young guys either, there are plenty of older wankers getting around too. At age 25 you don't magically wake up and go "shit aye, should drive real careful". Majority of people who cut me off on the motorway taking my stopping distance, fly past me @ 140+ along the motorway etc... are in their 30's driving commodores or falcons (though I find xr6 turbos to be sedate). Yesterday I had a elder woman fly past me on her mobile fone... The stupidity of some people... jeez. Part that pisses me off the most is the fact that everybody wants to point the finger at me for being young and wanting to own a turbo car. I've been doing my fair share to own the car, doing the training and waiting (I could have bought one 6 month into my Ps) but I waited. This magic 3 years on your Ps rule won't work! I would have loved to take lessons to get a "Turbo license". I am happy knowing I have to move up from 250cc bikes to higher ones (yep, got my bike learners just recently too!). The system as it stands won't fix the problems... more training, more testing, better certified instructors, and more money towards making it cheaper for lower income people. I come from a family that can afford it, but others don't... so the government needs to help them, or at least fix the public transport system up. How the fudge can the government have a surplus in the budget and yet... we can't get roads fixed properly... more driver training or anything similar. Instead we get baby bonus... god damn it. I hate arguing politics... it always goes in circles... honestly there is not much we can do. I had friends attending the new laws in QLD discussions... they got nowhere. Go tell joe bloggs @ age 30 his driving is crap... most people I know couldn't pass their license test again... I would bet money that I could, I learnt my road rules, I follow them to the best of my ability (people do make mistakes) and I will go beyond the "standard" requirements everyday of the week to prove I am a good driver. All I'm saying is, there isn't a quick fix... and it's not going to be cheap. I'm just waiting for all the v6 commodores to be cruising the streets at night... no wait... where I live that's what they mostly are... sometimes v8 if they are lucky. I bearly see a skyline or WRX in my local area... let alone high speed accidents involved with them... however, come around a corner to find a commodore or laser in a ditch and somebody hurt badly. Maybe we should look at drafting up some changes and presenting them to our state governments to show what really needs to be done. I'm talking a real effort here... not some online petition... real information with statistics (as the gov loves them), money involved and everything. I don't mind banning them for 3 years... but this won't fix the problem! It may help slightly... but there are far more important factors to be looked at.
  5. I agree it's about driver training. But honestly, some people just don't stick with it... They can't seem to hold anymore information then GO and STOP. Mostly just the GO. I was lucky with my driving instructor, I took probably twice the time others did doing lesson (money means fudge all compared to my life). The reason I was lucky is he was a ex-rally driver from the UK, only semi-pro but still. He taught me heaps of things (knew the area and where some private roads were, he was a champ!). He spoke about the UK training, how in their normal test they do a handbrake test, at random (on a safe road, no other cars etc..) the tester just pulls the handbrake and you have to keep control. It's little differences like that which make me a better driver then most my friends and family (also, I don't want to die!). I have done the occasional stupid thing... but NEVER near other cars EVER. I did get caught speeding on the motorway (2am, no cars in sight), I learnt my lesson not so much for the fine and the 6 month suspension, but after it happened I looked at crash photos (ones with the gore).... I never want that for me. Never again though, I'm a track monkey in the making (don't speed, drive like a nancy, always good stopping distances etc...) and wait for the track. I have only just purchased my skyline (after being on my P's for 2 and a half years), and have already booked in for driving training courses and race related ones (for track work only). But the more time I spend finding the limits and understanding my car the better. I started off jumping from car to car, and still do from time to time (driving mums Eunos, dads commodore, ex's magna, driving instructors lancer, mates R32 GTS-4). So I understand the differences between cars... by god they are different... and after test driving modded, stock and all sorts of R33 gts-ts I understand they maybe the same car.. but even then are different. I reckon anytime a person is purchasing a car when everybody says "Get a mechanical check!", they should add "Do your advanced driver course!" for each car they buy. More training is where it is at, I have younger brothers, and I see in no way the laws will help them. Well except for the 2 level P's assuming they actually have to do a second driving test to go from Green to Red. But advanced driving courses should be apart of your license! Maybe pump the speeding fine money into training instead of into new equipment to catch more people speeding... catching the guy doing 110km/h in a 100km/h on his way to work at 6am won't help the 18 year old in his barina doing 160km/h at 3am. Also how many deaths are related to crap cars? Eg. worn brakes, worn tyres, bad suspension... I hate dodgey cars, I feel a instant hate anybody takes me in their car that's dodgey. That $200 for tyres on your 13" rims will save your and my life... and that $1000 on decent suspension for your barina will too! If you can't tell your brakes are less then 30% left, GET OUT OF THE CAR AND STAY AWAY! Fudging kids, loosing traction isn't cool! I'll say it proud, I don't like burnouts! I don't like drift! If you do... take it to the god damn skid pad and do it till your car explodes, just don't do it down my f**king street! Already had a idiot on a motorbike flip infront of my house and lose half the skin on his back... same bike that broke his brothers back doing the same thing! And a idiot friend of mine who hit my fence because he liked doing handbrakies on the grass in the wet! I've had 1 accident, it was in the wet, simply put oil on the road and my back end slipped out... difference was, due to my training I didn't slide onto the otherwise of the road and hit the on coming car... I hit a gutter, if it was grass there would be no damage to speak of. Worst that happened was my brother bumped his head on the roof. I have been in other accidents where I wasn't driving... from a drink driver raming our tail end as he was too drunk to tell we were stopped (80km/h 3m of braking and then a hit of us = NOT FUN!), my mothers van with my family in the car got hit by a unmaintained car (brake pads were GONE and air in system). Learn to drive... learn properly, save the risks for the track... and by god, it's only money, but a decent god damn car and maintain it! /rant
  6. Futurama quote for the win! I use this in general conversations at times, best line ever. Also... crap video, he was just ragging on everything. I appreciate most cars.... just depends what cars they are. Nothing wrong with a nice V8 making plenty of power. If stuck with the choice between a Holden Commodore v8 and a TA, I'd so be at the TA. He was just a silly fat wanker really. Cheers, Ben
  7. Purchasing a skyline, the only major flaws the RACQ check have pulled up are, front right wheel bearings starting to make noise, and one of the wheel studs is slightly damaged. Just wondering if anybody knows the price of these items from Nissan? I'm at work and don't get a phone but do get internet... hence the reason for asking here rather then just calling Or if anybody has replaced them from non-genuine parts and know of a good place in Brisbane I'd be interested to hear! I have estimated $120 for the bearings and $25 for the stud. Thanks in advance, Ben
  8. quick question (I tried reading the thread and ended up confused). What colour is KH3 for the exterior? Thanks Ben
  9. After some issues with the Red line... I decided against buying it and have been on the search for another (few more test drives, pokes and pushes). Finally found one that meeted my standards, however, it is more modded then I originally wanted (however, all done in the last 6 months, by a good workshop and owner has full receipts). Nothing drastic, just new cat, cat back exhuast, pod, safc II etc... I took it for a test drive... yummy. The increase of power over the other more stock ones I was looking at is nothing less then amazing. This was also the first one I drove with a Atmo BOV, I'm totally a plumb back man, but it was good for shits and giggles. My mate let me drive his new R32 GTS-4 the other night too (I'm going skyline mad haha). Different kind of beast from the R33 GTS-t, but completely pleasurable to drive. His has no stereo either (getting installed tomorrow), so it made things a little weird for me, as I'm use to having mine on when driving. Well, the black r33 goes into RACQ on monday for it's master check... hopefully it comes back with a thumbs up! Otherwise... look for yet another car, and do yet another RACQ check. I'm glad I did it on the first one, sure it had a awesome body, no major accident dmg and a straight body... but the engine issues pointed out were an expensive exercise I didn't wish to deal with! Test drove a silver R33... I hated it, I never thought I could hate driving a skyline. The clutch was terrible, the suspension was half shagged, steering was stiff, I didn't even hit boost out of fear for my life. They may all look the same, have similar power... but they don't drive the same! Glad to hear you guys have such beautiful driving cars. Best of luck and enjoy!
  10. Well I'm back again, learnt some things with car number one (didn't buy it due to some issues with the car). Anyway... Hoping somebody can do a look up on this VIN: 6U9000ECR33018760 Thanks in advance Ben
  11. Thanks! I'm glad I come to SAU guys for answers... you are all so helpful! Thanks Sambo, Ben
  12. Hey guys, In the middle of purchasing a R33 GTS-t Series 1. The owner used a broker to import and compile it, however, it needs Road Worthy stuff done (I have agreed to as long as it's nothing major, getting it for a good price, and have a friend whose a mechanic). My only issue is it was taken back to stock for compliance, however, the front tyres aren't legal. I already have purchased a set of 17"s with new tyres and don't really want to spend $270 even on cheap tyres just to get the RWC. Do I need the stockers on to get RWC, or can I put the 17"s on without a mod plate for them? Thanks, Ben
  13. I'm still working through the purchase (I'm one of those picky buyers). I want everything done properly... but it means... I have to wait. I test drove it last Saturday, it felt like a dream (I'm coming from a 86 Twincam Rolla and a 86 Civic carby 4 door sedan). First thing I looked at when getting in the car was the coin slot area as to pop the bonnet, so that is melted into my mind... when I see peoples interior pics I start the feeling... the feeling of lust for the line. Then when I started her up, she made the classic (I have noted the sound from my mates R33 GTS-t starting up and my other mates R33 GTR). The sound of the starter motor cranking and then the rumble.... my god I love that noise... at that moment I don't care about anything but how it sounds when it starts! The best sound of an engine starting I have ever heard. Then the test drive, first my mate drove it (give me his overall opinion as he has been driving one for the past 2 years daily). Then it was my turn... engine warmed up and waiting for me... I took off like shit and first and rode the clutch a bit (feels nothing like any other manual I've driven eg. the 4 bangers). But then I got use to it and gave it a bit to check for turbo smoke etc... My god... I ran out of road in seconds... bearly got into third and it was time to brake. First time you drive it... there isn't anytime for you to look at gauges, or such... your eyes are looking at where you are going. First... Second... Third.. BRAKE! Never underestimate a stock R33 GTS-t. So hopefully by next week I'll have my baby, R33 GTS-t 1993 in Red. Stock all over (as was recently imported and complianced). Otherwise... I'll be looking for another one... but no matter what R33 gts-t I get... I will love my baby. I was an R32 GTR man... I'm now a R33 GTR man. Things that make you go mmmm.... I'll post up my drive home if all goes well... heck I even have the bank check ready for him! It's a long drive home (He's northside brisbane, I'm south/west out toward whoop whoop) I reckon it's about 60km. So it will be the hottest drive as it's mostly motorway driving. Hopefully my mate will drive me out to pick it up in his line. Nice to see 2 lines driving together down the motorway. It was great fun turning upto peoples houses in a clean Black R33 GTS-t to look at theirs. enjoy, Ben
  14. Thanks mate. You're quite helpful! Hopefully one day I can repay the favour. Thanks, Ben
  15. Ohh Goofy I love you man I didn't think fast would tell you either, was just hoping maybe heh. Again thanks man, top effort
  16. Hey guys, In the middle of purchasing a R33 GTS-t Skyline (yummy). This is my first purchase of this skyline and I'm doing it properly (ohh it's been fun...). Basically I'm trying to do the revs check (already arranged, RACQ master check, RWC and full service). Just need to do the Revs check before I hand over the cash! (rather be safe then sorry). So where does one find the engine number? The engine is obviously an RB25DET, it's pretty stock so I'd imagine there wouldn't be anything blocking the normal views on the engine. Thanks guys! Ben P.S. I did try search the forums and google for an answer however did not find one... Only way to get this right is to learn
  17. Could somebody look up 6U9000ECR33010565 for me? Also where can I locate the Engine number on the engine? (Revs check) or is it also apart of the number I just said as I know that has more then just the vin number from japan.
