  1. Nice car RedLineGTR, do you have any shots os the side skirts or your front bar?
  2. Treet them as a binary device, ie they are either on or off (scares the shit out of the idiot following you) but at least they a) wont squeel, or B) they squeel for the shortest time possible Drive it like its stolen :-P
  3. Hi guys Sorry for the huge delay in getting back to you, but my car will e out of the spray shop on Saturday. It’s been about 7 weeks since I took it in, but $10,000 later it's almost all done. The car was all prepped; lead wiped and painted (doors and bonnet off, windows out etc) everything except the engine bay and boot have been painted. Bad news is that the front bar isn’t ready to go on yet, as it required some modifications to my intercooler piping and the relocation of the auto-trans oil cooler, then I'll send it back and get the bar painted. I have also ordered side skirts from OS, which should be here soon and then both the skirts and front bar will be painted. Pics will be up as soon as possible, the first set will be with the bar mounted but not painted, then the painted bar soon after that.
  4. To get that sort of power I assumed you would already be on boost. Surely an aftermarket rising rate regulator will allow you to maintain a slightly elevated fuel rail pressure and then rise it to 65psi by the time you are on full boost. I don’t have a problem with using a RRR, but if you are pushing that type of power (and I am assuming you have replaced the turbo, fuel pump, computer, intercooler) then surely the cost of injectors is worthwhile even if it’s just insurance for your motor.
  5. Those with rb25DET have to fork out around $1200 for a set of (new) injectors (550cc) , its a lot more expensive than RB20 and RB26 motors. (there are also very few second hand large injectors available )
  6. Sorry mokompri - dont take it personally (guess I shouldnt type after a few drinks) but there is nothing wrong with using a fuel pressure regulator within reason/ Just like boost pressure you can press them too far, but unless you change your turbo the standard injectors can be made to work well (and safely) with anything you throw at them. 1:1 is still a ratio, as boost increases the pressure increases, so calling them a rising rateis correct. In a traditional EFI non turbo car the regulators job is to maintain a set pressure under under all conditions an as such isnt a rising rate regulator as the rail pressure remains constant. A $2000 fuel pump capable of 12,000psi will not increase the pressure in your fuel rail as the existing regulator will allow the fuel to flow through and hence maintain the pressure at the factory setting. The exception to this is if your pump is incapable of providing the flow required at the top end of your power curve, but if the turbo isnt upgraded (ie boost is kept below 13-14psi a standard pump in good condition will do the job. (but a GTR pump or better provides room to move as you change/upgrade the turbo in the future) Consider the complete package. A new pump is useless if the regulator is stuffed, and a new regulator is useless if the fuel pump is already struggling.
  7. If its due a rebuild, you cant complain after that sort of use for that long. Just drive it till it goes :Bang: and then start the rebuild. (start collecting parts now)
  8. Same as Joel and watsisname said well done marlin and good luck.
  9. My money would be on a bearing wearing (hey I'm a poet - and I didnt know it) (I make rhymes all the times) sorry about that It would be hard to know for sure without stripping the motor (or at least the bottom end) but you may be lucky and get an idea if you have access to an endoscope
  10. It isnt uncommon to see the standard regulator used to control the base presure and an aftermarket reg (or other device) help with higher boost levels, however a quality regulator should be able to cope with both the higher boost and base pressures. This method of using 2 regulators is also useful if you havent got an aftermarket fuel computer as a single replacement reg may come on at a different rate and effect factory fuel settings.
  11. Come on guys, stop posting all this "I think" and "a friend of a friend once told me that they knew someone who" crap. I wont even begin to extract the incorrect comments made in this thread and comment on the corrections. (but I would suggest you all ignore mokompri ) There is nothing wrong with rising rate regulators, but it is true some people use them to push the system too far. (but how many people run a standard turbo at 13-14 psi?) If you are concerned about a regulator holding enough pressure - just add a pressure gauge and watch it for yourself. As for brand names, there are many many people who will claim one is better than the other, but the facts are that there are many high KW cars using all of the brands listed above, including top drag teams. (with no problems), but that there are bad regulators made by all companies due to poor quality control. PS just as background info to help enlighten, a rising rate reg (which is standard on RBDET motors) stays open at idle and hence will not restrict flow and therefore keeps pressure low. As the boost increases the regulator closes, which reduces the flow and hence increases the pressure.
  12. If it was only so easy to catch fish, then they wouldnt call it a soprt. BlitzSSS I wasnt having a personal go at you, as you rightly point out I dont know you or your situation. What I was having a go at is the quality of some cars at Autosalon. My quoted comments "part of the biggest car show series in Australasia" and "some of the greatest modified cars in Australasia" "be modified and well presented." were all taken from the INFORMATION FOR COMETITORS section of the autosalon web page http://www.autosalon.org/generic.asp?id=20 I stand by my comments about car quality, and wasnt having a go at you personally, rather I was having a bit of fun making comments I hoped would start some discussions. edit: Some of the cars in for the audio comps were great cars and I apreciated the effort and quality put in by the owner, however some would be better off at Sims metal. As a side note my original comment also stated that some of the cars entered for the show (not just the audio section but some of the "show" cars aswell"
  13. BlitzSSS, did you take a look at some of those heaps I expect that autosalon cars are "part of the biggest car show series in Australasia" and I should see "some of the greatest modified cars in Australasia" In order to enter Auto Salon your car must "be modified and well presented." Whilst I agree that spending $2000 on a subwoofer and installing it in an otherwise shit box is a modification, it dose not mean thet it is a well presented vehicle. I didnt expect all of the sound off cars to look like the ibrahim bros WRX, but SOME were literally $500 shit heaps with a sound system installed. I am no show car judge (any more) but the cars should at least meet a basic standard, and even the sound systems in some were not worthy of competing. I am sorry, if your 17 years old and struggling to afford a bomb (laser, pulsar or gemini) as your first car, then stick to some of the lesser shows, and leave the big shows to the grownups, if however you have got the time and money to build a car to a high standard, then enter it and know you are in with other cars os a worthy standard. rant> flame>
  14. Let me know how they go, I too have just purchased some Tein HR's. I dont know how strong the rear springs are, but I was contemplating putting on the std springs at the rear.
  15. Its good insurance at anything around 200rwkw to replace the std factory pump (it could be getting a bit tired) and also to add a rising rate regulator to screw a few more kw out of the std injectors. Remember if only one injector is struggling, (and this may not show up on your dyno analysis) and you are too close to 100% duty cycle, it could easily cost you an engine rebuild.
  16. Given a choice of spending $3000 or more on the car, why not go for the tried end proven method. I know that for that muchmoney I can get a stock GTSt to 250ish rwkw, but when it comes to superchargers its a lot more of an unknown. There is nothing wrong with walking the less troden path, but be prepared to pay the $
  17. Cam gears ????? The inlet aleady has VVT, so you wont want to change the cam gere there. All you are really looking for is a cam gear for the exaust cam, then a few hour on a dyno to adjust it and tune it all in properly. I'm not sure you will see any geat improvements if the rest of the system is fairly stock, the benifits would be more evident if you had changed cams, turbos and to some extent the ECU. I think you would get more bang for your buck if you were to change to the tomei poncams. (and/or the dump pipe)
  18. Its moments like these :jk:
  19. I wouldnt discribe my gear changes as particuarly harsh, infact I am looking at moding the auto to improve it for a shot at the drag strip.
  20. no- I just pulled the standard ecu and replaced it with the PFC - no problems. I have been told by others many times that this wont work because a friend of a friend knows someone that heard that this wont work, but my argument is "look at mine, no problems and it all works well - including the gear changes.
  21. Next time your down in Adelaide give me a PM. My auto works fine and has been tuned at Tillbroks and MorPower. Admittedly I am not running huge power yet (only 200rwkw) but I havnt taken the plunge on a new turbo yet.
  22. Give hippy a map and get him to start an hour before the rest of us :-P (thats right if he's in a 121 metro he had better start 2 hours before us)
  23. Never thought I would shoot down SK's advice (bit like pointing out to god he stuffed up) but the PFC can/will work on an R33 auto.
  24. Thats a Impule R33R kit I believe, I was going to get one from JSpec (who said copies were made of the original kit he got for Danny) - but dont waste your time, I've been trying for several months and got nowhere. I have recently ordered some side skirts and rear bars from OS, as shown in the attachment below. Unfortunatly there dosent seem to be mucch choice with 4 doors (if you dont want a standard looking set of skirts)
