That would have more to do with the Mazda 3 weighing 500kg (or more) less than either an FPV or HSV. Lets face it the Aussie performance cars are good at carrying 5 big people very fast in a straight line for not very much money. They are RWD and will break traction when required - this is all the buyer demographic for these cars seem to want. If you want something that goes around corners and brakes as well then buy an Sti or EVO (talking new cars here) but your not going to get 5 aussie sized people in them. Apples and Oranges.

In NSW: They are allowed to use their speedo (which are calibrated) to estimate your speed but have to follow you for a minimum of 200 metres to do so.

Going from a GTR to any sort of small hatchback you are going to be dissapointed with the power. I would never buy the Alfa as it is FWD and has too much power for this set up. I think the Renault Clio Sport is the pick of the small cars at the moment, but I do here there is a new version coming to Aus shortly that has a mid-mounted V6 (200kw) AWD, this would be worth it IMO. There is also a new Astra Turbo coming soon. I don't consider the Skyline a big car having owned a falcon - I was going to say a WRX but remembered you dont want attention so what about a Liberty GT - styling, performance, reliablity, mid sized, should be perfect.

How so? The XR6T engine was completley designed and built in Australia by Australian engineers. What jap engines use a large capacity low boost engine? 6psi...they are for the most part small capacity, high boost. I think the XR6T broke this mould.

This is easy - well what i reckon anyway! You can't beat the current crop of aussie machines for Bang for Your Buck (except for Subaru with the WRX) Japan has dropped many of its performance cars - no more 200sx ect. In fact I find it hard to even think of any new Jap turbo "performance" cars sold here depite the WRX. The younger generation coming through are going to be driving these aussie cars as jap imports start get too old. Having said all that although the Aussie stuff offers absolutley terrific bang for your buck it still cant match (infact gets NO WHERE NEAR) the quality/reliabilty of the jap stuff. I bought a new BA XR6 new and have since sold it - it was a great car but had a few quality issues unheard of in jap cars - nothing major but enough for you to get annoyed. Insurnace is a no brainer - 200sx = $4000 a year, XR6Turbo = $900 per year. All i can say is that if the aussies increase their quality control they will be on to a winner.

Ok I know its not a Skyline but my CBR600 came with a titanium exhaust fitted from the previous owner (it cost $1000). Main advantages to me: 1) It is extremley light weight and therfore enhances power/weight ratio and cornering. 2) It DOESN'T get hot AT ALL - which means I don't burn anything when I touch it.

Personally for that sort of money I would go the S15. Are you talking about an import S15 Siliva or the local S15 200sx? Newer car, the styling is so sexy especially in black, and if you mean the 200sx well then its not an import so easier insurance ect. I think $23K is a bit much for an R33, if you go that route I would buy an early model for around $14K spend a few thousand on doing it up (performance wise) and put the rest in the bank. :uh-huh:

buy a manual, get a unichip/similar (should be undetectable) get the diff ratio changed and the car should be a great drive.

Iv'e got nothing against Holden but as for the comment that: "Holden=Australian" pffttt they use American crate engines...and there small car range is a bunch of rebadged Korean garbage...meh...

1) a non-turbo will come in well under $15K, maybe under $10K? good luck selling it though - its hard enough to sell an import let alone a non-turbo one. 2) I think you can have a pretty good audio system for $1500 - sure it won't be show quality ect. but it will get the job done with ease and certainly be loud enough. 3) Why on earth do you want to put a massive body kit and neons on a non-turbo skyline? No offence but be prepared to be ridiculed by everyone else on the road. I'm not criticising, Iv'e been there and done that when i was 18 (ok not neons but there was certainly a corolla and RICE involved). All show and no go is not a good thing.

If your concerned about the fuel bill then buy an Echo - any performance car is going to use juice (especiaqlly this 180sx pushing 14psi). Power = fuel +air.

No way! Iv'e sold a few cars and there are always the test pilots but you just have to be firm - always go with them and most of the time i make them be a passenger - if they are still interested then they can have a drive. I once went and looked at a Suzuki GSXR600 and the guy wanted $3000 cash (refundable) for me to ride it - pfft yeah right - look at it from the buyers point of view, why would I (the buyer) hand over ANY amount of cash to some guy I have just met out of the trading post, for all i know it may be a stolen car and when i get back from the test drive you are long gone.

WTF? If you value your engine I would seriously recommend NOT doing this.

Personally I would pay more for a stock car - pretty rare to find a skyline that hasn't been modded and had the sh!t caned out of it. Besides doing your own mods is more fun.

i didnt get the point of it - i thought it was common knowledge that the a/c sucks power (therefore uses more fuel), you can tell as soon as you turn it on. I used to own a BA Falcon XR6 with the instentaneous fuel readout display, if you held it steady on the the freeway at 110km/h it would read about 10L/100km, winding down the windows made no difference, turning the air-con on, it would instantly jump to 12L/100kms.

No offence but how would an L plater be able to tell if a car was "too slow" after spending $4k on mods on it? Theres more to driving than accelerating in a straight line - such as learning not to stall the car first like you admitted to doing in your first post :confused:
