  1. lol here is a crappy photoshop pic

    mufflerks5.png

    w500.png

the bottom one is a common aftermarket muffler - exhaust comes in from right - goes out main pipe and diffuses into exit pipe

they usually flow alright and arent too restrictive

the top one is an straight thru highflow item - gases diffuse into baffle chamber around the pipe

generally the bigger the baffle chamber the quiter it is, but also can very droney as the gases start to 'echo' a lot more

  2. a straight through muffler is exactly as it suggests

a good quality straight through muffler you should be able to look right through it from exit to entry (unless of course you have an offset exit/entry)

the muffling on a straight through is done by a baffle chamber AROUND the exhaust - perforations or the like in the pipe in the muffler allow flow to diffuse into the chamber and muffle the sound

thats essentially how a cannon works

the muffler in the last pic by eug is a typical factory exhaust muffler - sound is very quiet, but very very restrictive - the exhaust gases have to change direction 3 times and in a small body this is going to choke the gases BIG time and slow everything down and not flow well at all

  3. ^^^^dude its called math

    5" is 12.7cm

area of a circle equals Pi*R(sqaured)

    radius is half of 12.7cm = 6.35cm

that squared = 40.3225 square cm

times THAT bi Pi and you get 126.7 square centimeters cross sectional area of a 5" tip

to get the equivalent area from a 2.5" tip you need 4 2.5" tips (cross sectional area of a 2.5" tip is 31.7 square centimeters)

a tip CAN be too restrictive

    imagine a 2" tip on a 3" exhaust

its like trying to blow up a balloon with a straw - ur going to get tired, and the balloon is not going to get very full

  4. the biggest exit AFTER teh muffler the better

too big and droney and noisy as fuck - something like a 3" single exit or a twin 2.5" depending on taste would sound alright

the biggest restriction in teh whole exhaust should be the muffler - theres a reason for that - its called legalities regarding noise lol

the ultimate would be straight pipes - but thats noisey as fuck

  5. DJ Feego

  6. well COD4 runs aswell on the mac as it does on a PC

im on teh minimum X1600 card specs - un-upgradeable as its my laptop

get anywhere from 20 (with heaps of people at spawn) to about 75 fps

ran these commands in console to up the fps - works well:

    /com_maxfps 125

    /cg_fov 80

/r_drawdecals 1 (0 is off - no papers flying about)

    /maxpackets 100

    /snaps 30

    /r_drawsun 0 (sun off)

    /cg_brass 0 (shell ejection off)

/cg_drawfps 1 (shows fps counter in top right corner)

/r_multigpu 1 (on, increases fps even if only one gpu)

  7. group a racing was the top echelon of racing way back when

pretty much unrestricted engine size, power, engine capacity, 2wd/4wd etc etc etc

as a consequence there were really fast cars and cars that werent so fast

that my understanding why GrpA racing was canned (like gary said - uneconomical and too vast a difference between the good and the not as good)

the japanese GT500 and the aussie v8 supertaxis all stem from the GrpA - but restricted engines, engine capacity, production based cars (so no 4wd supertaxis) etc etc

somebody correct me on teh finer points of it, but that to me is the general gist of it

  8. The Mines GTR is a road going car with road rubber. It's going to get smashed by the current spec race trim V8 supercars in a race on any circuit you like.

    tru dat

even in the short run from hell's corner to corner 2 at bathurst the v8 supertaxis are getting to 255 kph

i would like the mines gtr do that

    650hp from a 5 litre pushrod v8 NA vs a 800+hp 2.6litre turbo???

    v8 would absolutely eat it

    now - awd in a v8 supertaxi?

thats a different story and would be a very interesting scenario

  9. i used to beat my mate who drove a civic with my toyota camry

as for macs.. try playing a popular computer game on it. such as call of duty 4 or rainbow 6 vegas 2.. good luck

COD4 has just been released for mac last week or there abouts

that being said, ive got a WinXP partition on my Macbook Pro just to play games....

im not quite a mac fan boy, but i prefer macs over pcs

    but i would have both

i find macs a hell of a lot easier to use

i keep having to fix up my grandmothers pc cause something keeps going wrong

my macs only problem is that the battery shat itself
