  1. Hmmmm.. Im getting 229rwkw @ 13psi with my 2530 at the moment and was looking to upgrade to the 2781 for 280~rwkw. Doesn't this turbo rate much higher than 225kw? I thought around 280-300?? http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...rison_sheet.htm states that the turbo is rated from 250 (186kw) to 475hp (354kw) I understand what you are saying about the housing. Either i get a stock turbo housing or use the HKS one?
  2. Hmmm.. unsure. I know these turbos come in many variances. I am looking at the low mount option for a 25 using stock turbo housing? (keeps it well hidden). What type of hp are you getting from the 2876?
  3. Hi, I am considering upgrading from a HKS GT2530 to a Garret 2871. Is anyone running a 2871 on their 25? If so what is the response like? How much hp are you managing? Experiences please. Cheers.
  4. I am about to change my ECU from Wolf v500 back to stock in my r33 gtst as i am troubleshooting cold start and running rich issues. Before I go and do this is there anything in particular I need to do other than simply unplug one and plug the other in? Nothing has been changed in my car when the wolf went in other than a boost solenoid.
  5. Silva33, Yes thats what the tuner said, and i think you are correct - I have gained torque and midrange. Will post before and after to verify. For those who have jumped to conclusions saying i have been "ripped" a 2530 will not make any more power than 300~hp. Guilt-Toy, the car was broke it was running far too rich without this tune. Its just a bit dis-heartening I guess to spend $$ for no hp gain. My engine hardware is running at capacity.
  6. Yes tuner has been paid. The car had some custom jap piggyback unit in it before the tune. I think this was doing as good job as the wolf. Well now i know - $3k later! The hp I have is the most a 2530 can handle anyway. I would need another exhaust manifold and larger turbo to go further. As stated by the tuner. I think he mis interpreted what turbo I had (he thought it was a 2540), thinking i would have 350rwhp. Anyway I will continue to monitor the fuel. Any chance of how to remove the black mark from my bumper? Should I ask them to do it?
  7. Well I finally went and got a tune on my S2 33 gtst which had some decent stage 1 mods done to it. I ended up choosing a Wolf v500. Car has... HKSGT2530 HKS FMIC 3" Turbo back exhaust Hi flo cat Fuel pump Pod filter Custom air intake Car made 307rwhp before tune. Was boosting to 0.8 bar and running rich. After the Wolf V500 was added to the car and dyno tuned (on same dyno, same tuner) it made the same 307rwhp boosting to 1 bar. The car also uses more fuel, has bad cold starts and has a dirty black carbon mark around the exhaust (after the tune) which i have had trouble removing. In summary I have spent $3k on new ECU and tune for no gain in hp, worse starting, worse fuel economy, weakened engine and turbo (boosting higher) and not to mention the carbon stain on the rear bumber. Should i be p*ssed considering there was no change? Or just realise that's the life of tuning cars? Cheers.
  8. Exactly, how much power do you want to make? What is your budget? The 33gtst will make around 450hp until you need to spend big $$ on it to go further. However you really are wasting $$ trying to get the car beyond 400hp (300kw) as you will be using more rubber than Ron Jeremy and not being able to enjoy the car. The GT3037 or GT2835 are probably highest ps rating sensible turbos for a gtst.
  9. As GeeTR said, two very different cars. A diplomatic viewpoint... r32 GTR - A known legend and a track weapon. However is becoming very old and very hard to find in reasonable condition. Expect to spend a fair amount maintaining such an old car and paying a high insurance premium. Really buy this car for the love of it. XR6T - Newer generation car that is a glorified sedan with questionable build quality. Certainly some power and responds well to mods. Insurance may be similar but maintainence shouldn't be as high (due to age). Nice creature comforts. In summary hard to compare, one is RWD and the other RW/AWD when needed. One has two doors the other 4. Plus the 18 year age difference. By the sounds of what YOU need I would go XR6T. How about considering a 4 door R34GTT? Definitely closer to the mark to an XR6T.
  10. Just get a bike rack attached to the back of your skyline and be done with it. Seems odd to me why you would want to risk ruining your interior by taking a bike in and out?

  12. Fair enough mate, but was there really a reason to be a smart arse about it? Anyway next q if you can help, what boost rating does a HKS GT2530 and 2540 normally operate at optimally? i.e. 1 bar, 1.2 bar??
  13. Oi mate, boost controllers have reason for existence - TO CONTROL BOOST! Think about that before you shoot your mouth off. If anyone has some positive comments and can actually understand what I am trying to achieve, please I ask for your comments.
  14. My reason for not tuning the Wolf to 1.2bar or highest boost setting, is to leave some life in the turbo. This is a daily driver, i dont want another 10,000km's then bang. What i am debating is having the EBC so i can adjust boost, i.e. from 0.8/0.9 bar to 1.1 or 1.2 (whatever is still safe). The wolf only allows one boost setting.
  15. I am about to have my car tuned and I am in two minds about what to do with the electronics. Car is 1996 SII R33 GTST My confirmed mods include... HKSGT2530 (possibly 40) HKS FMIC Turbo back exhaust Hi-flo cat Pod filter with intake Sard BOV Aftermarket intank fuel pump Some piggyback management (custom jap job, probably managing fuel/air) unconfirmed mods... injectors? split fires? forged pistons? Boost hits 0.8 bar (stock from actuator) and car pulls 307 rwhp untuned running very rich. Hence the reason i am suspicious about internals? Anyway, I have purchased a Wolf V500 and i was going to use the integrated boost control to raise boost to 1 bar (one boost setting for all driving). Tuner tells me this will be safe and car will pull around 350 rwhp. Now I am considering purchasing an EBC so I can bring the boost back down to stock and raise it to 1.1 - 1.2 bar??? Not sure what to do, the last thing i want to do is waste tune $$$ when i could have had a higher boost setting with an EBC. Some feedback would be appreciated. Cheers.
  16. For the record digital dashes can be altered. It was notorious in the Toyota Soarers. Apparently you can connect to them via a laptop and reset the display! These were hard to detect for auctioneers, only bad reinserting of dash and console left behind evidence of tampering. As for the R34, not sure?
  17. Must admit I had done some research into RX8's when I was considering buying one. All of the recalls in the US turned me off and there were plenty of sources stating that after 50,000km a lot of bad things began to happen, worst being engine failure. Apparently this was the reason mazda will not offer an extended warranty on RX8's. Anyway probably unrelated, as most people have suggested go to rotomotion those guys have plenty of experience with rotoraries including modding RX8's, hopefully its something simple like flooding.   18. Hey strich9, how did you get the photo so close to the HKS plate on your turbo? I am too battling to know what HKS turbo I have. I swear i have seen GT2530 on it, but I took it for a power run and it made 307RWHP without boost control, ECU or tune? It was running very rich and the tuner said it has to be larger than a 2530 to be making this power untuned and unboosted.
  19. Well I have been told by a friend that a guy he knows has a new VE SS LS2 with bigger cams who claims he is running 11's and will "chop anything around". My mate told him about my skyline - 1996 SII GTST with HKS GT2530 turbo, FMIC, turbo back exhaust, hi flo cat, fuel pump, air intake etc. The guy claims he would be able to waste me. I really dont have too much interest in his claims, but his attitude and arrogance is really annoying me given the fact he has never even seen my car?? Now I have never taken my car to the drags, nor have i had it on the dyno. I do know that it is damn responsive and goes very hard on boost, IMO its a quick car, even though i do not have boost control or ECU tuning yet! So i do not know how i compare (if this guy is telling the truth). I know its hard to judge, but what's everyone's opinions out of interest??
  20. Hard choice as there are some pretty good cars mentioned. I would go either the Supra (96+) or R33 GTR. Supra looks sexy and as most people say they are easy to get power from with some bloody good design genetics (F40 platform some would say). The US spec supras were the best, big single turbos and wild ecu's. Interior a little dated IMO, no big change since 1993. Exterior is timeless and looks great with many different body kits. Wild rear end action with traction control off. Handling im unsure of? R33 GTR, tuff engine, world class handling. Looks aren't as timeless as the supra, but def a nice looking car. Lots of aftermarket support, but a pretty common car (R33). Tuff choice, go test drive 'em and decide for yourself (make sure you test drive a fair few to get a good overall POV). PS. as for the RX7, well they do look hot (S6+), hold there value, but mechanically are a very different car. I had a S4 RX7 which spent most of its time with the mechanic or at petrol stations (they drink a lotta juice for a little car!!), very small car, really only a 2 seater, but i do have respect for them. happy hunting

I remember some years back when i had my R31 i was cruisin down south st in canningvale, and an unmarked vx ss pulled up next to me with two guys, they looked my car up and down then gave it a bit, i didnt do anything because i could smell the pork crackling from a mile away. Anyway they floored it put the sirens on so people would get out of their way, then they pulled into the maccas drive thru and turned thr sirens off!!! - I guess the drive thru staff must have dialed 000 and reported the sighting of two underfed hogs...
  22. Gee man thats not good news at all. So your car was in a locked garage when this happened? It must be a weird feeling knowing someone has been in your house while your sleeping and you didnt hear a thing! Hopefully the cops do something worthwhile and find them rather than concentrating on taking us off the road! Good luck.
  23. Love it. Almost a bit of R33 about it due to its size, i think it will be a big car with big potential from the factory! 3.x second 0-100 is supercar status!

  25. Does that create reliable boost? I have a HKS solenoid from an EVC wonder if i could use that?
