  6. this thread is a classic Got defected in my old nissan NXR for height of 70 mm. got it to 110mm by jacking it up and jamming about 20 blocks of rubber in between each spring coil and had no travel at all. too scared to drive it and was for sale anyway. sold it the next week and the lady drove it home from my house in Newcastle to VICTORIA with 80 rubber blocks jammed in the springs. couldnt stop laughing. hope she made it home ok
  7. i agree with today tonight/aca. bout time we used them for something good lol
  8. r31 nismoid: u say trust the blokes with the bad choice in plugs but after 4 days they were stumped and had no idea what the problem was... gtst25: i didnt keep driving it much, only a little bit when i thought it was bad fuel and had drained the tank and refilled and thought it had to run through. apart from that i was saving money to get it back to the damn mechanics. and i used to be on here for hours each night reading tech stuff but ihave had bugger all time these days to get on here. wAZR32GTST: yeah this was my first service owning the car so i hadnt got to know anyone to know my car inside out. I asked around a few blokes with strong skylines and they pointed me there. Yeah $600 included the barrel service plugs and labour because some people keep bringing up that it was 600 for the lock. and is it really that easy to get the door trim off when its already shut and locked? sinistagtst: mate that exactly what i did do this bloke is sposed to be one of the best in newy. well i suppose he still is if it was my f**kup. skylinecouple. thanks for your 'helpful' advice. firstly i had no idea it was the AFM in the first place. i asked on here earlier and i got a list amount 20 long, from afm, coils, plugs, pipes popping off, boost controller, bad fuel, heaps of stuff. And i know theres 50 pages on plugs but how would i know they are the problem when a damn qualified mechanic, one of the best in newcastle, put them in!
  9. god dammit yeah i should have thought about the age of our cars, i was just going off what my mechanic said. Yeah the labour included the cost of the ervice and sparkies and new lock barrel sorry forgot to mention that. And they said it took so long too because the door was locked shut so they couldnt get the door trim off. Not really trying to pin someone, i just thoguht they had done something wrong thats all. It took four days to find the AFM problem cos it was only booked in for one day and the days after he had other cars booked in as well as apprentices at tafe, etc. Thanks for your advice guys its part of owning a skyline i guess lol ill shut up about it now and try here in future before a fork out cash
  10. Hey guys heres my problem. Its turned out to be a bit of a novel sorry! 6 months ago my skyline was due for its first service. I asked around and took it to a workshop that works on a fair few skylines and were known to be pretty good. While it was getting serviced they told me that it needed new plugs, but they would be good for another 50,000k's or so. so i forked out $25 per plug to get some fresh ones. Driving home from the service (6 months ago) it hesitated a tiny bit and backfired a bit but i figured it would be ok. I called them the next week and they said if it keeps happening bring it back in. I saved a bit of cash and brought it back, by then it was getting pretty bad and would surge forward and then nearly stop and it was a joke. They spent 4 days with it, and at the same time got them to fix my door lock that had broken. Unfortunately it couldnt open so it took 600 bucks worth of labour to fix it. By then it had been three days, the door had been fixed but they had no idea what the engine problem was and i was running out of money. They said bring it back when you have more money. After that i took it to Turbotechnics for them to look at, it played up all the way there but as soon as they played with it it didnt miss a beat, they put it on the dyno and everything and ran perfect. So eventually last week, having not driven it much at all i took it to my normal mechanic who services my charade, and after 4 days he found out that my AFM was stuffed. He sent it to Syd, got it repaired, then put it back on and it ran 95% perfect but was still missing a beat occasionally. He checked the spark plugs and they were NGK heat range 7, when they are only meant to be 5. He said they would be at home on a race track but not street driving. He said this has caused the backfire, and this continual backfiring has stuffed the AFM cos of the air and backpressure surging in and out. I rang the workshop that put the plugs in and they admitted they put the plugs in, but the main mech that works there wasnt on today so im going to ring back monday. Where do u guys think i stand getting any money back, for the plugs or repairs or 2 weeks worth of labour? This has been a pain in the arse for me for 6 months, not only the cash involved but not being able to drive the car for so long (due to lack of money to get it fixed). The guys that work there are pretty decent blokes from what ive dealt with them, but what exactly can i say? I dont have a reciept, but they rang me and admitted they put the plugs in, and ive kept them as proof. Thanks for your help guys.
  11. Would he have much chance of getting the money for the car out of the thieves? rofl x 3 for tools joke lol
  12. whats the largest size dents these guys can get out?
  13. Hey guys finally figured out what was the problem. bad fuel! filled up a tank with bp and its running perfectly. took a bit for the old stuff to work through, but running heaps strong now and doesnt try and bunnyhop me through the windscreen which is a bonus. bottom line - listen to the threads that say dont go to shell! their premium isnt worth ten cents a litre. ill only be using bp or mobil from now on thanks everybody for your help appreciate it
  14. Hey guys Blind elk - Yep already replaced the battery once, the current one is from nrma and had it 2 months. Sounds like until i find the fault with the engine i should d/c my battery after driving? Razor and mjones - Thanks guys i have a mate two doors up with one ill definately try swapping the afm, hav 2 wait a week he is at schoolies. would the computer need a reset for changing afms? even tho they are the same, could the computer hav gotten incorrect readings from the old one and stick to them or theres no problem there? Burgerman - mate i really hope it isnt that! it has a heavy duty organic clutch, but im not sure about this vacuum assist thing, it was already installed when i bought it. yeah keep me informed! Well i just rang Turbotechnics, they drove it and put it on the dyno for an hour and a half and it didnt miss a beat. Im about to put a hole in the wall! Only good thing is when i asked about the cost of the labour, they said dont worry about it. I was pretty shocked you dont usually get that. Cheers, Luke
