  1. JMLab is the parent company. They make domestic Hi-Fi cabinets. Focal is the division that markets Car speakers. The JMLab Grande Utopia speaker( got a spare $50k ?) features the inverted dome tweeter. http://www.focal-jmlab.fr/gb/sommaire.htm looking at sensitivities, 90dB for the 6 1/2" woofer & 91.7dB for the 53NDT is quite efficient - should produce plenty of clean SPL with headroom IF you highpass at say 70-80Hz. With an active crossover, you really can't go wrong... provided it has adjustability for the crossover point, phase reversal, highpass etc. I have the 53NDT's mounted in the A pillar - the BigDatto was factory fitted with Kenwood nasty tweeters here - no need for the Dremel. Lucky me. Ultimately the pro's of using component speakers is you'll save a fortune. 90+% of Peerless' business is OEM, so you're not paying for advertising, marketing, flashy printed boxes, manuals etc etc. The way I see it, there's no cons for you, BOoStEr, cos' you've got an active Xover !! You don't have to stuff around with caps & coils. The other benefit is you can Biamp ( dedicated amp channel for each driver) this is MUCH better than a passive a la conventional splits. Plus with the $$ you save, you could get some kick panels fabricated - It would then sound better than ANYTHING you could door mount - food for thought. Why don't you give WES Components a call, or post an email ? They have a consulting sound engineer, Russell Stone & from memory he's in your part of the state. p.s I would be VERY interested to see the US car audio articles you mentioned RE: Peerless drivers - Got a scanner ?? Cheers Bud

  3. can't argue with that one ... most girls don't even know what a turbo is ... Isn't that a big Hairdryer, that snaily looking thing ???:bahaha:
  4. Lojikl, If scissors & tinsnips aren't too challenging, read on.. Make a template around your pod from cardboard, ensuring that the corrugations are vertical. trim it so when u close the bonnet there is say 1/2 - 1 inch clearance. Then at intervals of about 1/2" around the top edge insert 2" brads ( small bullet head nails) where your template meets the bonnet. GENTLY close the bonnet - pushing the brads further into the cardboard. You now have a PERFECT profile ! carefully remove your template, carefully unfold it, trace it onto sheet alloy, play "connect the dots" - to get the top edge & hey presto - full sick, custom, and SEALED. BTW the best stuff for the top edge is neoprene pipe lagging - same stuff used on air-con lines. $2.50 a metre from Clark rubber !! I've done 3 like this on different cars & it's simple - just takes time... here's my Proton GTi.. note the neoprene has taken the shape of the bonnet... airtight !!
  5. I drove a non-turbo MK IV Supra 'bout a month ago, at an import dealer in Brisbane. My Proton GTi would easily whoop it's ass. felt very solid, but ultimately it was a SLUG. Still a P~ssy magnet tho'. just my 2 zloti.
  6. Guys, When you do visit the JUN website, you MUST MUST MUST download the Quicktime of the Hyper Lemon EVO 5 lapping Tsukuba. This is one of the hottest laps on one of the most technical circuits you'll see - simply awesome !!
  7. If he didn't issue you with a ticket on the spot, and had no radar, then he has NO evidence. If a fine arrives in the mail I would take it to court. If the officer can't produce documentary evidence of an offence then how could it possibly stand up in court ? No magistrate would accept hearsay as evidence, the cop would just end up looking like a complete fool. The officer KNOWS this believe me. I would be very surprised if a fine is mailed to you. I have twice rep'd myself in court re: traffic offences and twice had rulings in my favour. don't panic.
  8. I'm In Sydney , so I don't know. How many ANZ branches are there in Bundall ??
  9. Xeron, Is clay bar what I know as rouge - the stuff you use on buffing wheels for acrylics etc ? looks like a big reddish chocolate bar ?
  10. Squiggle San, The creaky noise is just the levering mechanism. nothing to worry about. The whirring sound when your foot is off the pedal is the thrust bearing - nothing to worry about there either. The bearing will outlast your clutch & when it's replaced, it's routine to replace the thrust bearing. My BigDatto does the same. Don't sweat it. Sayonara.
  11. Hey Wardest, Big Congrats & welcome to Grin Factor motoring. What's the paint code on your build plate ? Sounds like a verry cool colour. Cheers
  12. Just received this email from Bundall: A Young man on a bike has broken into a white Skyline illegally parked in the car park behind the ANZ. If anyone sees this boy 16yrs no helmet on BMX bike could they try to detainas the police are on their way. Also if this car is your when the police arrive you may want him to get prints of the door handle. K****** Be Vigilant !!
  13. I think it was really cool to see all those old Z's and Z enthusiasts - isn't that what Nissan is about - vehicles for the enthusiastic driver ? Love that OldSkool touch.
  14. Better more solid bass, plus U get to keep your boot AND go faster without the extra kilo's ??? Make sense ??
  15. Why 2 x 15's ? - check the thread "best 10" subwoofer" and check out Peerless.
  16. Damn !! you got the N1-GT wheels as well. any chance you could throw a spare set in the boot b4 it goes into the container ??? ;-) Seriously those wheels are the sickest I have seen. You're one lucky bugger !!
  17. Yes, I have the 308SWR. The JMLab (focal) inverted tweeter is a unique & precious gem. I don't know of another that would better it. As for Peerless mids & tweets - it all depends on your crossover design as to how well they'll perform cohesively- Danish speakers are renowned for accuracy (Dynaudio anyone ?). so they probably would sound a little dull compared to Bostons, etc. This is because all you'll hear is the music - the speakers have no colouration. a lot of folks who audition Dynaudio ending up buying another brand 'cos they don't "make" music sound sweet - they just tell the truth. It's a very personal thing. Insider Tip: Orpheus loudspeakers use Peerless Drivers - and Orpheus are used by many top recording studios - because they require accuracy above Hi-Fi "sweetness". http://www.orpheusaudio.com.au/a1.html I would drop these guys a line - I've found that companies like this are willing to offer some really good tips for a keen enthusiast 'cos that's what they are all about. Happy not-too-tormenting decision making !!
  18. Gester, The answer to your question is "none of the above" Try standing in the middle of a room (of any given size) and speak at a normal level. Now go to a corner, face the wall and repeat... This is why manufacturers of Hi-Fi speakers ALWAYS recommend positioning at least 40-50cm from a side wall - The bass response would lift considerably and "muddy" the soundstage. In a car where you WANT lift face the driver toward the rearmost corner in your boot. You won't win any fashion contests doing this, but you will optimize bass response using the natural acoustics of your car. Let me know if it makes a difference !
  19. I forgot to add: The only one that comes close of those you've auditioned - for accuracy & timing - is the Focal. Peerless speakers are available from Wagner Elecronic Services (aka WES) in Ashfield, Syd & others are listed on the Danish Sound Technology website. Wish I had Your Eclipse deck to audition the sub !
  20. BOoStEr, You should take a look at the Peerless XLS 10 sub. This beast is designed to produce very tight deep bass from a 14 litre enclosure - not a typo, fourteen litres. Peerless are a danish co. that make audophile grade drivers. Scan-Speak and Vifa are mfg'd by the same parent co. You'll find Peerless drivers in European hi fi Loudspeakers costing $20K and more. I have the 12" and this beast can maim small furry mammals from 2 blocks away. However you'll need 300-400WRMS, preferably unregulated to really get it moving. I paid $250 for it, and I haven't heard a more accurate and musical sub at ANY price !! Expect to pay less for the 10" !! Here's the Data sheet link. http://www.d-s-t.com/peerless/index.htm and another overview: http://www.d-s-t.com/main/tech/xls_intro.htm Ignore at your peril !!
  21. Thx BOoStEr, As you've probably guessed, I'm a bit of an audiophile. I lucked out with my skyline, it was factory fitted with the top shelf kenwood system (which isn't much chop) but the bonus was factory fitted tweeters in the A pillars, which today were replaced with very tasty Peerless units. Rimshots now sound like rimshots not just a dull "tick", and the overall "airiness" is sooo much better. Methinks I'll save my pennies for an Eclipse unit. They look to be the dog's bollocks... and much cheaper than Nakamichi. Thanks again BOoStEr !!
  22. Hey INASNT - maybe you should get your girly one of these 'puters as a kiss 'n' make up. as a bonus, you'd never get busted again !!
