  1. no, only a custom crossmember to suit the box, it is tight though. about 15mm around the top. even the shifter hole is very close. just have to extend it rearwould 20mm. Car is at my brother in laws getting some minor fab work. mounting the seat, window net, a second side intrusion bar on the drivers side etc. should be finished in a couple of days. The bottom end of the engine is also ready to go, still waiting for the heads though. booked in to get wired in a couple of weeks. clutch should arrive this week.
  2. I heard from a liitle birdie that yhe machine work will be started on your engine this week.
  3. Dont worry, allready had the hole saw out. your going to have to put weight back in by the time im finished...
  4. I know someone who might be interested in selling a r32 gtst with Ls1 v8 and six speed tranny set up for track work. PM me for moe info.
  5. I take it your not retiring anymore, about time certain workshops showed a little loyalty back to good customers. Good luck.
  6. cage? oh my god, he has finally seen the light. looks like the power steering can come out after all. ha ha.
  7. Box is out so ill weigh it tomorro. PS Whats a R33 5 speed weigh? I cant remember saying i was building a drift car, the car was originally going to be a drag car, i said i would like to drift in it, as well as do some circuit work and some skids and drags etc. But in saying that i have been carefull in how the engine was mounted, getting it as low and rearward as posible without sump mods, and have had some help from the Sureflow drift team on basic suspension setup for the amatuer, seeind thats what i am. not looking to win any trophies, just have some fun. I have a go kart 4 winning trophies. Believe it or not, the Japanese are not the be all and end all of motorsport. Anyway, this is the project i have commited too and the engine is now at the machine shop. Piston to valve clearance was 65thou with no head gasket, so arount 105thou. this gives us the oportunity to deck around twentyfive thou off to bring the comp up so the small cube V8 will develope more low down torque. Piston to bore clearance was a little excessive at 3 thou but good enough for a race car. Just waiting for a hone then ill slap it together. need all i can find to compete with these SR20s.
  8. Hey guys, lets not get lost any further in this power figure debate, 300kw and or 400hp was a number that was mentioned by guys that drift as the optimal power u need in a relitively light car to drift, obviously there are cars with considerably less and also more power than this that drift, but it was said to be a solid combination. whether the car makes this power or not doesnt really matter, it was just a hyperthetical goal i set with the mild engine work i am doing. time will tell. even if it falls short, the car should still be a fun drive. The thread was supposed to be more orientated towards the fittment of the engine rather than the power the engine can make, besides the increase in torque at lower RPM compared with a turbo engine is the main advantage with the V8 anyway, not so much peak power.
  9. A friend of mine is going to tune the car for me and is confident the engine will make the power. A custom cam from competition cams has been ground to suit my car as it is considerably lighter than your average commodore, all new springs & retainers and roller rockers, all the usual stuff as you would know requires upgrading. Doing a piston to valve clearance tonight to see how much we can skim off the heads and how much the pistons require relieving, other than that a quick port clean up and thats it. I will probably run a high octane race fuel rather than pump so we can run a bit more comp and more agressive ignition curve. Ill be sure to keep an eye on the things you mentioned. Probably a few months off starting it, but ill post up dyno sheets when tuned.
  10. Engine is back out now as i am starting the build, but as earlier mentioned only the rack was changed. Ill take a pic when i put it back in.
  11. I guess you you will have to take into consideration the fact that these other cars are heavy (78 Firebird). I would be surprised if a stock RB20 would make an impression on a R32 making over twice the power and torque and weighing 300kg less. the engine assy alone is 30kg lighter than the RB20. and the car is gutted. but it sounds like u have a solid street car.
  12. Yeh, would be nice, later down the track if i keep that long. Reason i didnt go Ford is the LS1 was the right price, and ford parts are seriously expensive, but i have no doubt you can make big power with them. Im only looking to make enough to run high 10s on the strip and to slide it a bit. Not sure why you were having ring trouble, i will be sure to research it a bit as we are up for a re-ring now that i am changing pistons.
  13. Hey, dont hore my thread.
  14. Thanks mate, just read ur thread, it gave me that added confidence in the decision to put the v8 in. Im keen to drive it and do a few passes but more keen to throw it around the track. Just got my hands on some fly-cut pistons as to run a more agressive camshaft grind so looks like im splitting the engine. Going to deck the heads and block to get the comp up to around 11:1, just clean the heads up a little. New set of valve springs and roller rockers and shes ready. Purchased some 42lb injectors from the States recently, probably look for an intake aswell seeing that our dollar is so good at the moment. hoping to make high 300kw at the tyres.
  15. No. The rack had to be changed but the x-member is stock.
  16. I agree, i race go-karts with 125cc Rotax single cylinder water cooled engine and believe me you can notice the performance drop with only one cylinder. Kart goes well on Ultimate, it absoltely screams on Vortex.
  17. Well done guys, gone are the days when you had to absolutaly ring its neck for a 10.3, now it runs close to that on a back off. It is well deserved, all your patience and effort have payed off. up 4 another Queensland trip? PS. Hope is all well with your new addition also.
  18. I agree, there is 4 tenths in yor 60 foot time. Invest in a set of Mickey Thompsons. Soften up the rear and she'll be apples. It is possible to go 1.7 in a R33.
  19. wasnt planning on registering this one, especially now that i have sold alot of the interior parts off, also might be a little hard to engineer when you have upgraded fom 2 litre too 5.7 litre engine & 8 point roll cage. Ive also purchased a seat, harness and window net that dont really lend them selves to street driving. i was just planning on using it on the track. Between supersprints, hillclimbs, powercruise, drags and maybe some sliding, she'll get plenty of use. As 4 another one, w'ell see how this one turns out first. but i cant see why not.
  20. are u sure the gate is under the inlet manifold? might have it mixed up with the nitrous solenoids.
  21. Yeh guys, will be wiring in the standard LS1 harness with com port, Have HP tuner software, similar to LS1 edit.
  22. yeh, the engine is lighter being full alloy and having plastic intake, the new headers are also alot lighter than the cast ones. the flywheel will also be lighter as well as the clutch assy as we are going from the standard 12.5" truck setup to a 10.5" clutch, actually using a GTR pressure plate, but the Tremec is big, think of a R33 5 speed then add 20 kilos. Its all good though as the weight is in the middle of the car and the engine sits further back than the inline six also. The turbos are something i would like to do, but want to run the car aspirated first. turbos, manifolds, plumbing, pipework, intercooler would add about 80kilos to the front of the car and would cost about $5500, not just yet. hoping to make around 350rwkw aspirated and turn the engine to 7000rpm, should be fun in a car that ways 1000kg.
  23. whats a proper V8? it makes you wonder why its been done heaps if Ls1s are shit. but u know what your talking about, ill pull it out tonight.
  24. thats not very nice
