I'm looking at a turbo upgrade in the next week or so. I've heard good things about the HKS GT2530 and the Garrett GT28RS. I know the GT2530 is pretty much a direct bolt on to the RB20. I need to know how hard it is to get the GT28RS onto the RB20. What work is involved to do this?? Also.... will there be much difference between the two turbos? There's a significant diference in price and i need to know if i can justify spending the extra to get the HKS Turbo??' Thanks Simon

Also the coppers really love it when they see that! I learnt that the hard way.

Hi, i have an R32 with a sunroof. Recently the sunroof has started sticking while opening and closing and i need to give it a bit of a helping hand. Anyone else had this problem? Will lubricating it fix it? If so where should i put the lube and what should i use?? Thanks, Simon.

Installed Splitfire Plugs, Lost Midrange.
Psymon replied to Psymon's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I set the gap on the splitfires the same as what was on the platinums. -
I replaced the NGK platinums in my R32 GTSt with some of the splitfire plugs yesterday. I took it out for a run and it seems to have lost power around the midrange. I set the gap to 1mm on the splitfires. Is this too wide??

There's a couple of blokes out here who are pretty cluey with the Microtechs and Wolf 3D's so i'll see if they reckon they can get a decent tune for me until i can get to a workshop who can tune it properly i guess! Any workshops in the ACT area or the Lithgow Bathurst Orange area any good with these?

As i will be changing the turbo... when does the fuel cut happen? Does the SAFC get rid of it or do i need something like Turbosmart or HKS fuel cut defender? Also... is the SAFC fairly easy to install and use? Where i live the performance workshops only get good results on cars with carbies so myself and a couple of other import driving mates have to figure it all out for ourselves or go on a long costly trip to get something done!

So i'm doing some mods to my auto R32 to get some more power out of it. I've been looking at the SAFC 2 and i can't see any reason why it wouldn't work with an auto but i thought i should check before i fork out my $$'s! Anyone who has had any experience with the SAFC in an auto car feel free to let me know if there will be any problems i should know about first! Also... slightly off topic and probably a silly question but i'm a skyline newbie ... does my R32 have a fuel cut when there is too much boost? Thanks Simon!

I installed my new intercooler kit last night. Took the car out for a drive and i can feel a gain in power but in the higher revs the car seems to be missing a bit. it pulls hard then misses briefly then pulls hard again. The car was running about 12psi before i installed the intercooler. Could this be a fuel cut?? or something else??

Does this cause any other problems? Anway... found a power steering fluid leak. Checked the fluid again in daylight and found it to be only about halfway up the dipstick. Filled it up and fixed the leak but haven't had a chance to go for a squirt out of town yet. I'm gonna assume that this was the problem and hope that its all fixed now. That way i can get back to making it quicker!! :uh-huh:

I don't think it will be a problem with the boss kit. I'm more worried about my car deciding to steer itself at 100kms!!

Flashing exhaust temp light after broken coil pack!
Psymon replied to Psymon's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
This is what i thought may have happened. The easiest way to check would be to take a look throught it?? -
I was driving along the highway last night at about 100 when the back of the car pulled really badly from left to right then drove normal again. I looked down and the HICAS light was on. I pulled over straight away and switched the car off. I checked the power steering fluid level but because i was in the middle of nowhere and it was cloudy i didn't have much light. There seemed to be enough in there but i couldn't be sure. I jumped in and drove back home. Was almost in town and it did it again... this time it didn't throw the car around as much. Other than that it felt completely normal to drive. Steering wasn't heavy and it went around corners normally. Its an R32 GTS-T auto. Has a aftermarket steering wheel on it with a HKB boss kit. Is the HKB boss kit HICAS compatible? The steering wheel is on straight as well. Thanks! Simon

Flashing exhaust temp light after broken coil pack!
Psymon replied to Psymon's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It's on an R32. The coil packs are fine now... replaced them all with splitfire ones. The light flashes very irregularly. I noticed if the car sits idling for a while then it comes on and stays on but i thought this would be normal due to no airflow to cool anything down. -
Just after i bought my car one of my coil packs broke while i was on my way home from out of town. I had to do about 15km without one cylinder firing. Since then the exhaust temp light occaisionally flashes on and off but never stays on. I get the feeling i have damaged the cat but before i have pulled it off is there anything else this could be?? Thanks Simon :Pimp2:

Does anyone make custom remapped chips for the R32. I did a search and the results were about a year old so i wasn't sure if anyone was still doing it. Thanks, Simon.

How NOT to do it: Leave 10pm at night Boil coolant 2 hours later. Continue to boil coolant every 100kms. Almost hit a roo bigger than your car. Drive all night. Drink 8 red bull. Arrive at destination 3pm next afternoon. 5 months later realise the coolant was boiling because of a cracked head. I had a 2 hour nap just as the sun came up... it did wonders. Ah the joys of a trip to schoolies in my old ET pulsar!!

I'll be there!

Who makes a shift kit for the RB20 auto box?
Psymon replied to Psymon's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Had a manual for my last two cars so i'm enjoying relaxing with an auto! I reckon i can still have fun with an auto so i guess i'll find out......! -
Like the title says... who makes a shift kit for the auto box on the back of my RB20? If anyone??

Psymon replied to jas/slo32's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
is the car auto or manual...also how many kms ??? -
Just quickly with the 2530... when i bolt it on do the water lines and oil lines etc. bolt on?
-
So the 2530 seems to be the way to go? i was talking to one well known workshop and they suggested a TD05 18G.

Time for a new turbo for my RB20. It's more than likely been covered many a time before but i'm new to site and in my random browsing haven't come across it yet! I'm after something as easy as possible to fit to the car, leaving the car as drivable as possible (don't want the turbo spooling 2000rpm before redline like some other setups i have seen), and something that will leave me a fair bit of headroom for the future! Thanks!

R32 GTS-T Gearbox conversion.
Psymon replied to Scottstyles's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'm also checking out the same conversion. I assume it would be a fairly straight forward job but if anyone has done it before and would like to share their wisdom that would be awesome! :uh-huh:
