Best Toe/camber/castor Setting For Track
scathing replied to justinfox's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Some guys in Melbourne designed the exhaust / mufflers for the Ferrari 360's, to make sure they flowed well and sounded the way a Ferrari should. BMW Motorsport in Australia also developed a mechanical active brake bias adjuster for their Super Tourer. It was a complete hack, so there's no documentation on it with BMW. I know the guy who bought the car, and BMW Motorsport contacted him about buying it back. -
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind........

Dunno about the R34, but my old man's BMW has manually adjustable headlights.

Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them

I don't have much power to put down, but they do a good job. I got them privately imported. They weren't cheap (actually they were a fair bit more than I intended to pay) but we'll see how they get on as they wear. -

But that's because that's what he's grown up with, and so that's where his biases lie. I'm sure the JDM lovers feel the same way about their stuff, especially when the look at the BMWs people own and the myriad of electrical problems those cars incur. And how in most head to heads the Japanese cars do as well if you ignore the badge, and do it for less. In Wheels' last Euro vs Jap comparo, only the Golf managed to pip its competitors. And I'm sure that AuDM car lovers were pretty bloody happy when a bunch of car mag scribes (including Motor Magazine) took a Nurburgring specialist pro driver out on the track and the 4 door HSV GTS spanked the E39 M5 and E55. Not bad considering the GTS was half the price, and BMW M and AMG use the 'ring as their test track whereas the GTO had never seen it before. etc etc -
My understanding is that Nismo is now offering the entire Z-Tune catalogue for sale. While it won't be one of the 20 R34's that Nismo inspected, bought back, modified and sold anyone with an R34 and the money could have one built.

Some cops may defect you for it, but that's mainly because they don't know the law and want to give you a hard time. The RTA's VSI 06 (guidelines on light vehicle modifications) say that your replacement wheel may not be more than 25mm wider than the largest rim for that vehicle, and the track cannot increase by more than 25mm, while still being classed as a "user certified" mod or in other words something you don't need an engineering certificate for. It says nothing about the diameter. I believe that in the RTA's implementation, "widest rim for that vehicle" is the widest rim listed on the tyre placard. Victoria has a similar law, but the "widest stock rim" is based on the chassis (if I remember the article in Motor Magazine's "Hot Tuner" editions correctly). So in NSW a Commodore Executive can have a rim 1" wider than the SS' while still being legal, whereas in Victoria the same car can have a rim 1" wider than a HSV's. All I remember for certain about that is that Victoria's laws were more generous than NSW's.

How stupid are you exactly? Why do you want to know if car A can beat car B unless you're after bragging rights? Or are you just a collector of useless information? If this forum had a thing against people who don't drive "supped up turbo charged mobil" then they wouldn't have a NA forum would they? And you can modify anything to go faster than something else. All it takes is money.

Z Tune Vs M3csl Vs M5 Vs 911 Vs Gallardo
scathing replied to writeoff's topic in General Automotive Discussion
If he did it would have been a bit pointless. Nismo's brief was to build a GT-R that could handle a 15 minute track attack session at max attack without going off, so all the ingredients to ensure that the car wouldn't overheat and chuck a wobbly were meant to be there. -
That is not, in itself, illegal.

I'm rolling on Bridgestone Potenza RE-01's now. 245/40 R17 front and 255/40 R17 rear They're not a bad tyre. I've got the pressures way up, and so its quite responsive. Outright grip isn't bad - I didn't manage to throw myself off the road. Give me some time to wear the blacking off them, and when I'm not with n00bs like I was this morning, and I'll give them a proper run. -
That's pretty impressive. A 1:05 is frontrunning Formula Ford times. I'd love to see what kind of street car can run those times.....
-
Most of us obey the spirit of the law, even if they don't always manage to match the letter of the law. Emissions laws are there to protect the environment - while its one thing to run the car a bit less fuel efficiently to chase more power so it produces more carbon dioxide, its something else entirely to dump poisonous chemicals directly into the air. Its even worse since its a street car, and so there are innocent people breathing in that shit.

What's so interesting about watching a video of a car not going anywhere and just spinning the rear wheels? Its not even generating smoke from those rear wheels, so its even more boring than a burnout.

Need To Purchase Tyres...
scathing replied to CUDDLS's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The Goodyear Eagle F1s seem to do well in the wet no matter what car they're on (from Motor and Wheels tests), and I saw them first hand when I had a friend breathing down my neck when we were doing Putty in the rain. I also drove on Dunlop Sport 3000As, which were a nice progressive tyre. They're a hard rubber compound so there's good life in them, and they squeal as they're approaching the limits so you get plenty of warning if you're corner carving. They were also good in the wet, as I noticed when I was driving up the Hume in a downpour. If Dunlop was still making the DZ101s I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I loved these tyres, and its a shame they were discontinued. Better than the 3000As in every respect, aside from tyre life. Softer compound, more dry weather grip, at least as good wet weather grip if not more. If you find some in stock then they come highly recommended. -
Need To Purchase Tyres...

How about a budget? Its really hard to say what is the best cheapest tyre around, because the two tend to be mutually exclusive. And what are you aiming for in terms of "best"? Maximum grip? Low noise? Long life? Great wet weather performance? Another option is to try and find slightly used tyres. Some dealerships put new tyres on ex-demonstrators (to seal the deal) and so its possible to get tyres with 80% tread for 50% of the RRP. I recently picked up a pair of slightly used Bridgestone Potenza RE01s in 245/45 R17 for $350, that still have plenty of meat on them. Not bad considering the brand new 255/45 R17's I bought cost that much each.... -
Do you even know what a screamer pipe is? And/or what the Australian Design Rules (which are a Federal law and thus apply in every State and Territory) are with respect to emissions?

Have you considered a Silvia forum of some sort? Or would you ask your automotive mechanic father for advice on repairing light aircraft? I know that people have made well over 200rwkW on standard S15 internals. An S13 will have around 5-10 years more age on it though, and other differences (like the VCT head) that assist in making power. I know of a few S13s making around 200rwkW, but I'm not sure how much the engine itself was modified. The T25 on the S13 SR20's won't cut the mustard for 200rwkW though. Neither will the stock cams. I don't know if you'll have to go to solid lifters either.

Test Drove A Mazda Mps - Turbo Awd
scathing replied to benl1981's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Yeah, I walked past one today and had a squiz. The interior is a bit low rent for a $55K car - the Statesman looks much nicer inside. If I had a 300C, the car would be black and exterior wise I'd get: 21" chrome rims Lowering kit catback exhaust Tints I'm not after outright power or handling, but it has to look mean (lowered on massive chromies and a dark tint will do that, I might shave some of the badges off too) and it has to sound like a basso whose lived off a diet of cigarettes and whiskey. They might be bringing the SRT8 into Australia as well, with a nice bodykit and a 6.1L V8...... -

I probably didn't word it too well, since I thought that in context it was quite obvious where I was going with it. I meant a factory turbo family car, and preferably one that isn't FWD. The Euro cars in that price range are generally too small, with the exception of perhaps a FWD Audi or Volvo. The Golf, Impreza, Megane etc are a bit smaller than the Mazda6 / Liberty. -

According to the magazine reviews, its not a "RWD drift bias". When you reef the handbrake it disables the stability and traction control systems (as well as removing all drive to the rear wheels). When you drop the handbrake it just dumps the power back to the rear (rather than letting it in smoothly), which is meant to continue the lack of traction by shifting from lockup to wheelspin. It doesn't turn the traction and stability control back on either. If I ever take a Mazda6 MPS for a test drive, I'll be sure to test the feature out. If the sales drone complains, I'll tell them that its something Mazda designed into the car so its something I need to try. -
The DOT rating for brake fluid, for the most part, tells you how much heat it'll handle before it boils. So if you're not likely to hammer your brakes, and probably on a racetrack environment, then I fail to see how DOT 4 is "inadequate".

And now that Subaru has dropped the Liberty GT, if you want a new car with a factory turbo the Mazda6 MPS has become the only choice. If I had to buy a cruiser / family type car for that price, and I wanted something new and with warranty etc....I'd be hard pressed to choose between the MPS and the 300C. Depends on if I want show or go, I suppose -

......and how is the Liberty GT any different? Aside from that ultra-small bonnet vent, the GT is pretty much indistinguishable from a regular Liberty. The exhaust tips are the same, there's no bespoke GT badging, no bodykit, and the GT's rims are nondescript even if they're specific to the model.
