  1. Judging by the responses in this thread (and opinions of non-car people I talk to about big rims) the biggest consequence is that passers-by are going to think you're a tool. Aside from the ride / handling / rubbing issues already mentioned, I wonder what all that extra weight is going to do your suspension life?
  2. Mileage is pretty high for a Jap import. That said, the plummeting R34 GT-R prices are making me seriously consider selling the Z33.
  3. Anything's possible with the right budget. Why not find a wrecked 750i or something, and drop a V12 into it?
  4. Yeah, I was thinking about the general lack of light coloured sand in that part of Germany. I just got "Nurburgring" from the 997 Turbo chase car - the only pics / videos I've seen of the two cars together have been Nordschliefe pics.
  5. 350Z-Tech has some engine bay pics of the new GT-R. Judging by the track shots its the Nurburgring (its chasing a 997 Turbo), but this is the first time I've seen pics with the bonnet up. Not conclusive that its a VQ35HR, but the dipstick location and the shape of the cam covers definitely looks like a VQ engine's.
  6. Kind of. I've just ordered my new wheels though, so I don't know when I can release them. Apparently there's a 2 month wait. I do have spare wheels if I can get the right price on these, though, but I'm in no hurry to sell.
  7. Z06. The C6 is a complete barge. Nurburgring track times. Its a Wiki so I don't know how accurate it is, but the Z06 time sounds about what I've heard quoted elsewhere.
  8. Shouldn't you be calling it a Prince then? Non GT-R Skyline coupes have always been sporty grand tourers (as opposed to the more luxury ones like the Soarer). The V35 still does an admirable job of it. Its a lot more luxury than older Skylines, but its no more boaty (considering the era we live in, and all the safety / emissions requirements) than its R3x predecessors. It still handles very well in its class.
  9. I don't have a Skyline. I have a sports car because I want to have one. Its more suitable for the type of hobbies I enjoy (track work) than buying an econobox or family sedan. However, I freely admit that its a want and not a need. Its a luxury and a privilege, not a right. And I don't speak or act in any other way with regards to my car.
  10. Like to go boating does not equal need to go boating. So far all you've given me is recreational purposes - there's no life or income critical reason for having your boat, or your 4WD. Look up the difference between want and need in the dictionary. You'll find the former suits you more than the latter.
  11. Is that thing in the cabin a deployed air bag, or some giant rag to mop up all the jizz the lucky test driver is sure to cover the interior trim with?
  12. Unless you're a commercial fisherman or some kind of water-based tour operator, you don't need to tow a boat.
  13. Did you consider calling the companies listed on Toyo's web site as official distributors? When I went looking for R888s I called up Blairs and some non-official distributors. There was no price difference. Blairs I've found good for customer service, and at least if you're after weird sizes they've got a good working relationship with the manufacturer.
  14. On metropolitan streets........?
  15. Road's closed, pizza boy. Find another way home.
  16. You should have gotten your license earlier, then. The laws are there to nominally protect you from yourself, which I barely care about, but also to protect me from you....which I care a lot about. I've you've got aussie 6 cylinder power envy, go buy an Aussie 6 cylinder.
  17. TVR Tuscan Speed 6 Unfortunately the Top Gear vid of the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage has been removed from YouTube, but it sounds like a racecar engine.
  18. Yeah, it would be more useful to tell us how wide the rim you're keeping is rather than the tyre you're looking at not using anymore. Most tyre manufacturers recommend a 8.5-9.5 wide rim for a 255 tyre. 235 shouldn't be a problem - I've got a 235/45 R17 mounted onto a 9.5" wide rear rim and there's not too much issue. It doesn't look overly stretched and I haven't had any hassles with it yet. Its just not recommended.
  19. The museum is in his honour, apparently. So it should have several of his cars. In which case, every car he's competed in belongs there (assuming the museum can obtain it). Whether he died in it or not shouldn't matter. If it was just the one car by itself in a situation just about his death, then its in poor taste. But if its about his entire life, his beginning and his end are more than apt. As for "cashing in", that's just typical News Limited bullshit. A lot of museums charge entry. Why should this one be any different? You have to pay to get in to the National Art Gallery in Canberra, which was set up on taxpayer's money yet its not as hyperbolic to go around accusing the curators of "cashing in" on hard working, true blue, taxpaying Australians when it comes to that.
  20. Wasn't it bucketing down that night? That bridge is not the best designed thing in the world. You can "inadvertently" pick up so much speed since it runs downhill from both directions for quite some time, and its tempting to let it roll to those speeds given the width of the bridge and the visibility it affords. But hit some of those metal expansion joints in the wet at speed with some steering attitude on (which you'll have since the bridge curves) and you've got a recipe for a sudden and unexpected sideways event. Still, you drive to the conditions and so I'm not saying its not driver error. I'm just saying that its not the kind of place where you'd look and thing "How the hell did you do that there you fool?" Its more a case of "Why the hell did you go that fast there you fool?"
  21. The only 350Zs I know of with aerated engine blocks are those that run too much boost or nitrous. Bumping the redline up too much without a new bottom end also has a tendency to stretch / snap gudgeon pins. Aside from that, first year 350Zs only tend to prematurely wear tyres and munch gearboxes. Oh, and the stereos tend to shit themselves (CD player not working in coldish weather, speakers cutting out) and the usual crap Nissan build quality of trim coming off, power windows not working, rattles etc. Like every other Nissan I've owned or had mates who've owned, the bits that make it go, stop and turn are great but the rest of the car is a bit ho-hum. Most of the above has been addressed by the current release, anyway.
  22. When it comes to stock cars: The new Aston Martin V8 Vantage sounds horn. But so does the original TVR Tuscan Speed 6. Vids of both are on YouTube, but since I'm blocked right now I can't add them.
  23. "The driver of a third high-powered car was being questioned by police last night" has a different inference regarding the capabilities of the trio of vehicles compared to, "The driver of a third, high-powered, car was being questioned by police last night."
