  1. Hi guys - I'm after a quick bit of advice from a few of you. I've got an r32 with a TR43 turbo on it that has died. The car's still driveable (wastegate disconnected) but obviously a bit risky to drive it, its just a bit noisy so I can afford to take a bit of risk and take it to a mechanic nearby. Now I've got two options: Option 1: Take turbo off myself, bolt the second hand turbo I've purchased (r33) on and tow the car to a workshop to do the stuff needed (front pipe / water and oil lines etc) that I can't do myself due to a lack of parts/skill and get the stock dump welded on to the exhaust as it currently has custom work done which will need to be reversed. Option 2: Take the parts and save on towing cost and drive the car to a mechanic to get it all done. With the first option, I can save a bit on labour but end up spending a bit on towing as well as running the risk of stripping a bolt / running into other complications With the second option, can I ask how much it costs to replace a turbo from tr43 to an r33 one (without the exhaust work) - I called up two workshops and got quoted 800 by one, and 350 by another (both labor only). Thanks for your help =)
  2. Sorry I meant Rb25 turbo (not sure which one it is yet, need to research) - I'm not a huge fan of fixing turbo's and I was thinking of changing back to a smaller turbo since I didn't even get it tuned to fit the bigger turbo etc (just ran out of interest in modifying ) so I guess this is the time to do it ... had dump pipe leaking issues etc etc ... barely getting 6km/L right now. Btw, I just took off the piping etc and because the engine is loud itself I still couldn't pinpoint the sound but pretty sure its the turbo, has a bit of shaft play (more then normal) and saw marks on the side of the housing from the wheel. so pretty confirmed Need to look for a turbo now! I've posted a WTB in the section. Need to find a good place to do this cheap also, REALLY low on funds, these things always find the right bloody time to happen! Thinking of taking the next turbo and the car to Dr Drift (Sam), hopefully he can do the full job along with connecting the new dump to the exhaust and fitting the turbo etc. Thanks for the help though!
  3. ok so just found out my turbo has shat itself - I'm after any turbo that will fit a stock manifold on my rb20, is in excellent condition, and need a dump pipe also! Nothing too beasty / expensive - the car is just for daily driving and a bit of fun =) let me know what you have please!
  4. nah bought it brand new from you mate - might've been 2009 and I might just be spacing out!? Yea its running the oil line as well. was fine till like 3 days ago =/ I'll bring the turbo once I get it replaced so you can see if anything can be salvaged... Also, anyone know what exactly I'll need to change if I replace it with a gtr turbo? Pretty sure I'll need a new dump pipe made and joined to the exhaust yea?
  5. Hi guys; made a quick vid so its easier to explain, hopefully the sound is clear enough - from the searches I've done it should be a blown turbo correct? I'm going to take the piping etc off in the next few hours, will I be able to identify it by spinning the wheel by hand? Not sure what else it can be, it's boosting semi ok still (haven't noticed a huge difference) - stock boost, Hypergear tr43 - only had it for around a year or so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaGYR4NfUDc Thanks for your help!
  6. Almost a week of driving - still full where i left it -/ what could this "temporary" leak be ... taking it to the mechanic in a week and a bit
  7. Yes I meant inside the car. The pushrod (if thats what its called) did have a bit of liquid at the end near the rubber seal (on the firewall end) but I'm guessing thats normal? I'll get the slave checked out while the gearbox oil is being replaced. If the fluid does not decrease after a couple of weeks, I should still get the system bled out correct? Thanks for your input.
  8. Hi all; I actually thought my gearbox was rooted but thanks to an hours browsing and searching around on the forum, I found out that there are two cylinders that exist and when i went to check my car, the master was bone dry. I filled it up with brake fluid and the clutch is working better now (still not as good as before but much much better ... I tried looking for a leak but its all bone dry near the cylinder and also near the footwell. I drove for around an hour round trip and came back and the fluid was still right where i topped it up till. My question is, should I bother replacing the master and slave cylinder or wait to see if it gets empty again? Or just go and get it bled and looked at once from a mechanic when I'm getting my gearbox oil replaced? Thanks for your help
  9. This keeps happening till around 6-8 minutes of solid driving ... takes that long for the temp gauge to reach mid way and then BOOM ... problem sorted. I understand mapping issues etc etc - but how is this getting worse and worse daily (and really bad now that its Winter ...) the cars starting to hold back ALOT more now in the cold temps...
  10. Hi guys, looking for a stock r32 steering wheel (or r33 / r32 gtr if they're a straight fit) for my r32 gtst. Need one pretty quickly so pls pm on here ... Thanks
  11. Hi Guys - I'm literally freezing my balls off - need an r32 heater core assembly ASAP - anywhere in Victoria preferred, not too expensive!! Please send a PM on here or email manisyndrom @ hotmail.com
  12. the point of the forum is to get ideas - just chill and let me gather information, I don't expect this to be fixed online but its a start... it will go to dr drift soon. Thanks mate - I have checked and cleaned AFM, checked the fuel pump, replaced coil packs and plugs, checked vacuum leaks and cleaned all sensors etc but there's still timing / tune to be done - Dr Drift will do that soon. I'll post results on cold start when I have fixed the issue, and will encourage people to do the same once it is fixed and I have proven its not just what skylines do when they're cold Once again - thanks for all your help guys
  13. I guess I still haven't explained it properly - I've been driving turbo cars for 9 years now, I'm not trying to drag race people when the engine is cold ... its NOT that its just running a bit off ... there's an evident jerk when i go over 2500 rpm THATS how much its being held back - you can sit here all day and say thats how skylines drive when they're cold but thats NOT what this is. It was driving perfectly fine when it was cold so for everyone who says skylines drive like shyt when they're cold - you need to get it checked out and sorted, because it drove perfectly fine till a few months back. Apologies if this sounds a bit abrupt - but I can't make it any more clearer then this! Thanks alot for the helpful tips above though, will take it to get tuned first and then look for a solution.
  14. Yes I'm barely getting 6-7 km/litre. I didn't get a tune because I was a bit short of cash and I was running only 8 psi (yes i know i should get one asap). As for "living with it" just because its old, i refuse to believe that the skyline will just drive like this because its old / thats what they do when the engine is cold. This is NOT normal behavior, its not that its not running a 10 sec quarter when its cold, there is genuinely a problem. It feels like someone was pulling on the car in the opposite direction and then released all of a sudden when it reaches 2500ish rpm. Sounds like the first thing I should do is get a tune and THEN sort the issue out (I don't think a tune is the answer, but it removes another problem that needs to be fixed before this). Dr Drift - where are you
  15. wow so many replies in a few hours Its not just running like cars run when cold - its 100% an issue. It idles perfectly fine, it started happening a few months ago all of a sudden, turbo was put in around 2 months before this. Its a TR43. I really should look at the AFR's before replacing the o2 sensor yea? since if im running super rich, it can mess the sensor up again? water temp sensor should be fine because the car shows correct temp and has a gradual increase all the way to half way?
  16. Hi guys, my r32 gtst has an issue where it just doesn't feel like revving / driving smoothly till a certain RPM. this ONLY happens till the engine is cold and the problem is gone EXACTLY after the temperature reaches the normal half way mark. Till it reaches there, the car doesn't pull right until I rev it over 2500ish RPM - after that it drives better (but I think it uses too much fuel as I can see black smoke on high revs). On Low RPMs, it feels like something's pulling the car back. I spent 400 bucks on brand new coil packs as someone suggested that could be the cause but turns out it wasnt ... can someone please guide me to what I can replace next to try and find a solution? Its got a dr drift ECU with a bigger turbo but stock fuel pump and mostly everything else is stock. Thanks for your time guys!
  17. Good to hear, I'm sure expired labels don't cause accidents / deaths. I used to laugh at all the cop hating posts because most of my experiences with the po po were decent (even though I got fined for exhaust etc, I was happy cuz we know that can happen anytime ) but this incident has left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Hopefully its a once off thing and doesn't happen again (not the fine part ... the not getting a lift back etc part lol).
  18. no one said there is mate ... ?
  19. its actually not that hard to forget ... I don't usually forget any bills but this one skipped (moreso because i was 100% I had paid it, till i checked my statements etc). As i said, not pissed off at getting fined, just the fine compared to how much a red light crossing fine is (yes I was 2 months overdue, but it would've been the exact same for 1 day over). And ofcourse at the "treatment" I got afterwards. anyway, can't argue with the cops :] it only makes it 10x worse. Let them do their job and get it over with ... they have a license to do anything they want *me*: You guys can atleast be nice and drop me to my car instead of making me walk in the fkn cold ffs *cops*: Shut up and open your hood. lol
  20. how about offering to drop the guy who is stuck in the middle of the freeway 5 mins from his house to his place since its freezing and I didn't have a jacket with me? No ... how about ACCEPTING when i ASKED to be dropped off? no ... what did happen however was i got told to walk all the way back to the booze bus (which was around a 15 min walk in freezing cold) to ask them to call me a cab (I got pulled over a fair distance away from the bus). I wish I had a receipt with me, would've loved to show it like I said, money isn't the problem, chances of me killing/hitting someone 5 mins from my house are more then someone crossing a red light and killing a family? I guess so, then the fine of almost double the value is justified But I guess if i DID have the receipt, they would've started looking through the car for illegal mods and loud exhaust and general hooning lol (even though I have a perfect driving record!) oh well, can't argue with the law...
  21. yea I'll put it on a $20 installment plan or something just for kicks ... There's no discretion with cops
