Sauber weren't telling him not to pass, they were just telling him to do it without making contact and losing 18 points. Probably shouldn't have done it, but I doubt it changed the way he was driving anyway. And yeah they're delayed so it wasn't just before he made the error. It was a tiny error but costly in the conditions...
