Thought it might be useful to share ways to watch Japanese TV down under. We use an android Tv box (skystreamX) that i purchased thinking that it did a lot more. It quoted that 1000's of channels were available but i found it hard to use and content hard to find.
I stumbled across an Ebay ad for a subscription to Japanese iptv streaming from the internet using android Tv boxes. They offered a 24 hour free trial on each of there 4 packages,The first one worked well and gave around 38 channels. quality was as good as regular tv and didnt get any buffering on our 5-10Mbps connection. However we had an issue with my android box and their log in system so it wasnt any good for us. Tried 24 hour trials of the next 2 services they offered "ihome" and "ihome 2". one of them was ok but buffered often and was no playback capabilities. the other had a terrible pictures and very pixelated.
Finally tried the final option called "World TV" after a successful trial we purchased a subscription about 9 months ago for $180 US for 12 months. We have 38 free to air channels, Tokyo and Kansai, and 12 Fox channels that have either japanese subtitles or voiceovers. i mostly watch J Sports 1,2,3,4, BS tsuri vision(24hr fishing) and fox discovery, science and history. The kids get into Animax and Disney a bit. Quality is as good as regular tv, and if the interent speed drops away then the picture drops back a level until the speed picks back up. Have only had 1 day so far the system has been down.
Shows are usually 20 seconds - 2 minutes delayed, and we have a 5 day playback function. I was after this for a long time before finding what seemed like a real product and not a gimmick. There are a lot of interesting shows on and will definetely be renewing our subscription shortly when it comes around again.
I'll search for a link to what i have incase anyone wants to give the trial a go. If anyone is using a different service feel free to share and compare.
