  1. *sensible head on* I wouldn't go for an R32 GTR, not if it's to be a daily driver. Compare the 4 year old car you have now, with known history to a 10 year old car which has probably been thrashed for most of it's life. Whether it's been well kept or not, at the end of the day a 10 year old car is a 10 year old car. Yeah, the R32 GTR's are awesome, no question, but time is catching up with them... :ghost: *sensible head off* R32 GTR...Hmmm...Need we say more!
  2. factory output is 120PS (I used to drive one ) and getting much more than that aint easy! You'd need some serious mods to get 196 bhp from the RB20E...serious mods. Certainly no way you'd get that with JUST a filter and exhaust!
  3. Yeah - having a car would allow you to see a lot more while you're hear though, not just the Daikoku PA. Luv the avatar BTW! hehehe: Nature Strikes Back!
  4. My thoughts on the next GTR: 1. Turn on your speakers. 2. Click here And lighten Up!
  5. This is, for me, by far the best time of year (weather wise) to be in Japan. Warm, sunny and clear blue skies. Very little rain. Not too hot, not too cold...
  6. TI circuit....Aida...Okyama Prefecture and a long, long way from Tokyo
  7. hehehe - I have that book...or should I say Godzilla's bible
  8. Briefly stopped by the track today...and discovered I'd missed out on some kinda event. There was a TV crew there, along with this: Not sure what went of before I arrived, but there was plenty more drama to come once the bikes had gotten out of the way: Next up was a mix of cars, including a nice hachiroku: a couple of RX7's a very quick Honda Beat: and an absolute bad-a55 S14 Silvia: And then there was the the Scooby.... 10 minutes into his first session and then...SCREEEECH...BANG. Somehow he lost it on the corner.... busted radiator. The front end was totalled. Car wouldn't start. He'd also managed to spin it, wrecking the back end - you can see the rear wheel is pointing outwards. Owner didn't seem that bothered about it...Shame too - I had a look around it just before he went out. It was an absolutely minter and ran really well. That's the trouble with SLY - the track is quite technical, and with zero run-off is totally unforgiving of mistakes. I've seen many, many an accident in the last few years and it's one of the main reasons I've not yet raced myself... Anyways, to wrap up - they hold a Mira Cup during the summer, here are some of the "cars" lined up: And a shot of their R/C track. That's all folkes!
  9. Not me - although I could drive down to TAS, I think it's a whole lot easier to take the train....besides, I only get to use trains once a year (the last time I rode was TAS 2004 ) so I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to experience the cleanest, most punctual train service in the known universe
  10. That all depends on the car. While it's a small circuit, perhaps not well suited to high powered cars, it also has a short straight, that is all uphill (and a steep one at that) so you need plenty of low down power to get up it quickly. Most of the time people are lucky to get into third gear much before braking (which can be left right till the last minute) and taking the sharp left hander....
  11. Justin I think a few people of the GTROC UK club are going, though not sure which day - maybe the Friday. Will let you know.
  12. Rather you than me - walking around in a T-Shirt in January
  13. Poida - the track is nestled in the mountains on the northern side of Yamanashi (towards Nagano). It's not that hard to find, once you're on the right road and I can provide directions if you're interested. You'll definitely need a car to get there though. It's hard to say if they'll be any decent action on any given weekend, it varies alot. Unfortunately I've got to work this Sat/Sun...so I won't be able to meet up....I hate work! Where abouts are you going to be living? Troy: by far one of the fastest (and most popular) car types I see on the track are Evo's (there were a couple running last Sat). Also PM'd you!
  14. I was hoping to make it on Fri this year, but after having 16 days off work over xmas and new years, there's no way I'll be able to get that day off... so put me (+ missus + eldest Son) down for the Sat.
  15. I see quite a few, but they tend to be out in the summer months more than anything else, particularly in the Fuji Five lakes area...
  16. Yeah, just pick one up of the local Gomi pile.
  17. Justin - yep, you're free to walk around as you please. It is a small track, quite laid back in many respects. The course is short, 1.2KM...shorter for the drift course. Their webpage is here In addition to the main track, they also have a dedicated R/C track, with meets and events. They're open most days (though weekdays there is hardly anyone there, which can be good if you're lucky enough to get the track to yourself! ) and throughout the year...
  18. OK, I'm lucky enough to live about 10 minutes drive from a small RWYB circuit in the mountains. While the circuit itself isn't anything special, it's still a popular place for locals to try their skills on a short, technical circuit, where power isn't everything. I've been going there most Saturday mornings for the last 4 years or so, so I figured it was about time I started sharing some of the photos Anyways, I'll try and keep this thread updated with pics (from time to time! ) So, here are this morning's pics - today was a pretty normal day. A couple of small clubs made an appearance, and it was nice to see an NSX on the track too...Most afternoons are dominated by bikes and in the summer there are some organized events aswell. The track. Small, on a hillside. Zero run-off if you make a mistake. It's better suited to smaller, more agile cars. It's constantly being updated, renovated and improved. Recently they're installed a spectator's watch tower, must be 4 stories high, and it gives a good view of the action. That's all for this week. Dave
  19. Yeah, I have to admit that I'm happy to have my better half to keep me in check. Without her I'd probably be down at super autobacs every month, about 10 minutes after getting paid, ready to spend, spend, spend!!
  20. I'm happy to say I don't have any of the above hassles. Don't have any credit cards. Come to think of it, don't have any debit cards, not even an ATM card! the missus keeps them and all I get is my pocket money  Now that I think about it, I think the last time I, personally, withdrew money from my account was 5 years ago...just before I got married. There might be a moral in there somewhere :D :D
  21. never seen a drift event televised...but then again I never watch Jap TV...generally speaking it's so bad it's beyond being funny.
  22. well, I have to admit the new fines don't really bother me...I'm a good boy me :innocent: I never talk on the phone while driving. Certainly don't drink and drive. :alcoholic And my cars are 100% legal...and when I want to have some "fun" I pick the time and the place with care  :D Drive smart people and pay less tax
  23. Sure the fine for using a keitai is 7,000 yen? My wife seemed to think it was only 5,000?

    RC-cars

I used to be heavily into racing when I was a teenager - mainly electric powered stuff (indoors) with a circuit made from filled fire hoses. Entered quite a few tournaments and did pretty well..... I have a Tamiya R/C car here, but rarely use it. Besides a 4 year old boy +RC car= broken RC car Shame because if I had more time to race I have a decent sized, specially built race track not more than 10 minutes from place...
