  1. where is that warehouse jay?

somewhere in adelaide. random find while riding my bike.

    anyway.

had a go at a light painted join up. this piece is around 30 meters long. took over 2 hours just in shooting, lol. i know i can do better next time, was still pretty cool doing this much tho.

was raining so a little rushed. but getting some reflections was nice.

would have liked a bit more light around the highlighted part, but also wanted to be home in a dry bed, haha

  4. Still looks great dude :) The one on facebook looked different? or am im going crazy? lol

nah, i charged my batter and went back there. it started raining too which was kinda cool as i then had some nice reflections in some parts.

got a job interview tomorrow so probably wont be doing anymore. hopefully it doesnt take long before it becomes popular and others start doing it. the main reason i kept it up was just to see graff in a new light (pardon the pun :P )

  5. awesome pic sidd, always love the way you capture people man.

one thing that i would have done different tho is arrange the blokes in a slightly different way.

red shorts, blue shorts, multi, blue, red. then there is some kind of scheme in the colors. not totally necessary at all and its probably just a byproduct of my OCD tho, lol. yeah, im weird like that, haha. its easy for me to come up with that while sitting back looking at the pic tho, no idea if that would have come to me if i were in your position and shooting.

EDIT: just had a look at the set and i can understand why the groom is on the right now. the shot of them walking on the beach works awesome with him leading.

  6. Jay would be awesome to see before and after pics of what you have done. Still trying to get my head around what you are actually doing.

Are you painting the art with different colour lights or just a normal light painting going over the whole image with just one light?

i tried recording a video of me in action but it was too dark and doesnt look like anything. pretty much match color for color and then use white to get back any colors that you dont have and to add some ambient light into the scene. that last part ive only just started doing.

  7. cheers guys! its been good getting a bit of motivation and a helping hand (plus the DSLR makes life a fair bit easier too)

Passive, the basic technique is to point the light at the wall and trace the parts of the piece you want to paint while trying to stop any stray light messing things up. its something im still learning and it can be pretty addictive. timing is the most important part to learn. too fast and you wont get nice colors, too slow and the colors get burnt out. keeping the lines straight is also a challenge as it gets hard to see when your looking at a bright spot on the wall where the lines go, lol.

this was done on the same night and as you can see that i didnt get such a smooth fill. ah well, cant win them all.

oh and the battery ran out before i had the chance to put a bit more ambient light on the floor of the drain, so i just cut it out lol.

  8. yo sidd, those shark pics have me paranoid. sharks have been spotted at my local beach the last couple of days. and not the friendly kind. :/

ive tried lighting this piece once before and failed at it. i was doing it by myself and it wasnt working so i just gave up on it. my cousin has been coming around and lending me her DSLR, time in assisting and a shitload of motivation. i gave this another try.

  9. your car is surrounded by balls mattboy. good thing they are not touching :P sweet shot

I'm hoping for some rad fireworks shots in this month...

that 2nd one is awesome farris!

indeed, love that second one too.

heres an edit i did last night to try and fix some of the graff i shot. i wont go into detail, but it took a bit of work just to get a straight pano out of photoshop. the automated photomerge isnt perfect and sometimes needs you to do some legwork before it will work.

(you can see both versions in larger size on my website http://photos.jay019.com/urbanart/joinups/)

  10. Jay, how do you light it up like that? LEDs for the orange parts obviously, but whats the fill?

if you mean the santa one then yeah, orange LED for the keyline and the rest was just lit with a white LED worklight. if you meant the first one i posted I used orange/purple/green LED's for the highlighting with some subtle lighting with the white to bring everything else out.

  11. had a proper look at the tunnel and i really doubt you could get a car in there without permission or bolt cutters. such a pity as i was keen to do a shoot of the elgrand there.

anyway, havent been out playing with lights for a while, but my cousin gave me a kick in the ass and made me leave the house tonight...

  12. I sent him a link to some flickr stuff over facey. See what happens but it would be f'ing ace to cover a scene I love.

dude you will have no problems whatsoever!

they published some of my stuff a couple of years ago, the quality of your shots are only like a million times better ;)

  13. yeah south of adelaide. being on a bikeway its got bollards to stop cars going through tho. it looks like they can be circumvented pretty easy, but not sure how well a lowered car would go as i reckon it would involve some kerb hopping. might have another look tonight and see how hard it would be to access by car. alternative would be to contact the council to get keys, not sure how accommodating they would be.

  14. any plans to head out to that tunnel where Matt (?) got a cool shot of his bike?

that was me, and no plans to head back there (for photos at least) any time soon

i do ride through that tunnel every couple of days tho, its on the way to an awesome riding spot
