  1. Hi Tez, thanks for the offer, i may have to take you up on that when it gets closer and i actually find a good example! What area are you in? Im in Sydney. Thanks for the info on the dash, i am very wary of the original dash, and would prefer not to even touch cars with an aftermarket dash!!! There are ways at checking the accuracy of the taco, such as driving and even a simple look at the interior and exterior, and age / average k's per year. I always insist that i get the car inspected by my mechanic, up on a hoist, and includes engine, gearbox and differential checks. I have had sellers say no to this, and consequently ive told them to keep their car! If they want to sell their car, and have nothing to hide, i.e. are selling an honest vehicle, they would welcome the checks. Normally this is second to my own inspection of the car and purely a finaly once over once i have made up my mind its potentially worth buying. For example, i went over a car, drove it and on the outside and mechanically it was a winner (atleast no undue noises, knocks etc). Seller agreed to have it checked over by my mechanic, had it put up on a hoist and the entire underside was rusting, and not minor surface rust either! Turns out the rims were repainted, and a car showing 30k on the clock had had atleast 3 tire changes per rim and new front rotors. Bam no good. Didnt even both with the other mechanical checks. Thanks for all your help.
  2. Its a shame, because almost all R34 Skylines in NSW being sold as private seller cars are infact TopMotorImports cars. And most of those cars advertised have been sold too. Why dont the respective advertising websites stop this? It amounts to fraud!!!! It also pisses me off!! Thanks guys for all of the links, youve been a great help.
  3. hi guys im in the hunt for a 34 and have come across this one http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/NISSAN....aspx?State=NSW has anyone else heard of this bloke? i have seen a few cars advertised under his name but am not sure what the quality of cars he sells are like. has anyone had any experience with him?? ive been to topmotorimports and it was very dissapointing after closer inspection i found numerous issues with their cars which were still $10k more than this one!!! has anyone got some information for me???
  4. i went ahead and had the car checked over, and its not what i was looking for.
  5. hi im curious as well, has anyone had any experience with these guys?
  6. Thanks everyone for the replies. Some helpful comments there. So far i like the idea of the fuel cut switch, however i guess a determined thief could still hotwire any fuse that has been pulled, or ever a switch. I was thinking of a dash / console mounted red toggle (removable) kill switch which would cut power to the fuel pump and anything else i thought necessary. Interesting to see how paranoid some people are, something i should look forward to? Im not the sort of person that would leave things in the car, nor likely to modify the interior with gadgets. I also will have a club lock. Thanks once again.
  7. Hi guys, I thought i would check in with the pros just what people have done regarding security for their skylines. Im not neccessarily interested in alarm system but more other measures. For example, how many people have put in a cut switch to the fuel pump?? What else do people do to stop would be theives? Any one got pictures?? Im asking because im soon to purchase a 34 and would like to take some extra steps to keep my prize that little while longer. Thanks everyone
  8. unless you wanted to by the whole powertrain / drivetrain and suspension, then an engine transplant may not be feasable, although a neat idea. what you could do is replace the engine, gearbox and other drive components of 'your' car with those of the gtr and shorten the propshafts and 4wd transfer shaft lengths to match your wheelbase. although it does make things difficult! with the new rear mounted gearbox.
  9. I think i might jump in here, "but heed this advice. learn how to take criticism with good humour, and think about what you say when you react. otherwise your stay on the forum will be a short one. 2rismo was defending you, and you just went nuts at him." Adam i wouldnt take this personnally, especially coming from Beer Baron. I also wouldnt accept his lame attempt at redeeming his integrity infront of members of this board. His attitude has always stunk. Especially towards newer members. Ive had similar run-ins with him over turbo related posts; where he has been unquestionably incorrect and, i have corrected him yet he could not take my criticism with good humour either! How hypocritical! I say let him stand on his high horse because atleast he doesnt fool us!
  10. Id have to dissagree to everything there except for the cost. The original poster was considering a twin turbo setup with either one of two wastegates. Aside from the fact you have two wastegates and associated piping thats going to cost you more and theres increased manufacturing complexity, i would say the advantages of running two over one would be: - You now dont have both manifolds connected! And hence cross flow and increased turbulence is reduced allowing improve flow (as it was intended in the original manifold design) to the turbines - Response is not neccessarily improved because of the smaller, lighter valves (i.e. less intertia beer baron) but because of the improve flow - Control is no different as with a normal setup assuming your running a pressure referenced linear diaphram actuator as was the case with the original skyline gtr Asides from cost, technically two wastegates would be better for a twin turbo setup.
  11. If they were my engineers they would be fired! Lucky for me non of mine are short minded like you suggest! Obviously you are not awake to the idea that motorsport is all about seconds. It is not an alternative of moving the dogs, they are still actuated by the same mechanism within the gearbox (assuming sequential) its the human interaction which is of importance! On tracks where there are hundreds of shifts and because the hydraulic / electrically actuated mechanisms can save easily 200ms per shift over a manual this time adds up to a few seconds. Try tell me or any engineer that it isnt worth the complexity of the mechanism nor the extra gears especially when races such as WRC and F1 are won or lost because of only hundreths of a second! The speed variance of the tracks has changed little over the years, because of the powercap of restrictors. I think either your missing the point or avoiding it! Another reason why the powerbands may be so narrow is that most 'RACECAR DRIVERS' are expected to be able to drive with peaky narrow powerbands, if they cant they arent very good! Average drivers are not expected to handle such engines hence the fact that all road based productions cars are designed and tuned for wide powerbands. I would be willing to bet that 'motorsport' is used primarily as a MARKETING hype rather than purely develpment for production based cars. Considering the extra attention a constructor recieves from success in these categories and the fact that the production cars hardly represent the race companion by any stretch of the imagination except for some similarities in bodywork and four wheels!
  12. Actually the inlet restrictor is not a smart way. Its an easy, cheap and MEASURABLE way. If it was smart try justifying that to any engineer by asking him of what he thinks about the vacuum created infront of the inducer, and then try convincing him that the severe pressure fluctuations as the nozzle approaches mach conditions is of benefit! Then if your game ask about the extra friction created by the necesscity to keep lubrication oil from being drawn in due to the vacuum and what harm this has to turbo speed response. Maximum power can also be debated considering that teams like SUBARU run a massive intake volume between the outlet of the compressor and throttle bodies / ports. Although this is mostly for transient on/off throttle and not sustainable during steady state. Also the pure claim that a narrow power band is the result of said restrictor that is not true either. Ive seen a restricted 600 cc turbo make peak power across a 4krpm range! The main reason teams would run a narrow ratio box with increased gears is that they have found increased acceleration. This wouldnt be possible with the old manual shift boxes, but considering all teams now run automated hydraulic or electric paddle shift which actuate within 100ms increasing the number of gears aids acceleration without the wasted shift time. Again this is found in street cars, but primarily as an emissions / fuel economy perspective.
  13. No not VATN, VNT! The variable vane type ofcourse. Re New 911 Porche turbos. Or seeing as you know your garretts try these small ones, gt15v, gt17v...
  14. I would also like to add a reply, however it may be slightly off topic. Have you considered trying the VNT turbos from Garrett? Even though their complexity is higher, they will look standard from the outside and should integrate even easier than a twin scroll saving cost. Performance wise they are more than capable of your response and power/torque spread goals. Also regarding those AWE tuning headers... what were they thinking! They are tuned runners by even any stretch of the imagination! Maybe the division name says it all; AWE FABRICATION! Heres why - Runners are not equal length - Collector design lacks... steep merge angle, 3-1 cross section is not integrated properly. - CNC cut flanges have left lots of sharp edges for thermal stress concentrations - My guess is they have ceramic coated it to cover up dodgy manufacturing methods. I'll leave my rant there.
