  1. Hey I've got one too but I didn't think anything of it. Have I been officially warned, because I didn't receive any PM's or feedback so if I have been warned I have no idea what it's about. Feedback please. Update: on second thought it's a dumb question since the bar says 0% next to it. I assume then that all n00bs have a warn bar displayed until they prove to be well behaved. Well reasonably well behaved anyway. I mean this is SAU not a convent.
  2. Rececntly I've been thinking about wheels. Although I know several reputable brands I don't know every brand on the market. Also in the last week a bloke posted a question about some rims I won't name. So what I was wondering was if anyone would be up for a "Safe wheels sticky"? The idea being that nothing derogatory is posted about any brand, thereby protecting the forum administrators from legal action. The brands posted wouldn't have to be the lightest, cheapest, most expensive or whatever. Just adequately engineered and accurately machined so that anyone could fit them with confidence. I think this information could be useful, bearing in mind that there are some people on the forum who know almost nothing about cars. Hey we all have to start somewhere. Anyone care to post some feedback?
  3. I assume carbon fibre bonnets are made with epoxy resin. Could be polyester or vinylester but I doubt it. Anyway the point is that epoxy is subject to fairly rapid UV degradation. If your bonnet is just carbon/epoxy without a substantial UV fliter coating on top this is probably what's happened to it. The boaty types deal with this all the time, which is why marine clear coats are absolutely stuffed with UV filters. Not knowing anything about car finishes I can't recommend anything offhand but with CF becoming so popular this is likely to be an increasingly common problem. Anyone got anything they can add? Oh yeah, properly cured epoxy is also a bastard to sand.
  4. Excuse the hijack but what wheels are those on the white R34? Bloody nice. I want some.
  5. CLARK RUBBER???? They have them???? Fark! How much? Yes the same ones will fit the GTS-t. At least I'm 99.99999% sure they will. Only difference on a GTR body is the quarter panels. Roof and doors are the same. If the quality and price of the Clark ones is good this is a winner. All the R32's shag the seals at the upper rear corner and Nissan ones are over $500/pair. Please post more info. I can feel a group buy coming on.
  6. Oh dear.Well at least you're not scared to ask.Aftermarket simply means not standard. The intercooler is what cools the hot air from the turbo before it goes into the engine. It's like a radiator but the intake air passes through it instead of your engine coolant.Scuse the rofl's but it really is a funny question.
  7. ^^^^ I know AutoMeter is supposed to be a good brand and in fairness I haven't cross checked my gauge with another known to be accurate.I also don't know how old it is or what happened to it before I bought the car. I'm just a bit puzzled at what my particular one shows.
  8. In case that's not clear enough the standard airbox has four spring clips on the sides.Just flick them back and the top will lift off.You can then lift out the old panel and drop in the new one.Piece of cake.Just make sure you put in in the same way up.
  9. Yep I've noticed mine seems pretty twitchy.
  10. Hey don't take the piss out of my user name or I'll sulk.I take myself very seriously you know. I should get a vacuum check done I s'pose but I've been busy so I haven't bothered yet.Must get onto it. The car is an R32GTS4 so it doesn't have a boost gauge as standard so I can't compare readings. It's a funny one.If it was a Chinese gauge I'd just chuck it.
  11. Just checked it. 700rpm idle shows 15lb vac. RB20 not RB25 if that makes any difference.
  12. Now this is interesting because I've got a wonky boost gauge too.I'm sure it's not accurate even though it hasn't been on a dyno. Much like Rizza's my gauge reads up to 15lb on what feels like a stock donk. Unlike Rizza's my gauge shows zero when the car's off and vacuum when you'd expect vacuum (ie. decelerating or cruising off boost),as well as showing transition to boost that matches the expected change in induction/turbo noise. It's plumbed directly off the plenum and is an AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra Lite. Once again I didn't do the installation. It was on the car when I bought it. Anyone got any tips or clues for me?
  13. Can someone who knows what they're talking about please give me a quick rundown on their opinion of ASL wheels? Are they fairly decent or obese useless crap? Ta.
  14. I'm not sure if spraying CO2 into your intake will help matters.Obviously you'll get a cooler charge but you'll also effectively be replacing oxygen with CO2.That won't help power output. For the same amount of stuffing around you may as well squirt in nitrous to get the same cooling effect and more burnable oxygen.
  15. Another point worth thinking about is turbo timers.Basically I,and a lot of other people including some more knowledgeable, think they're a useless gimmick and a waste of money. Not only that but they can collect defect notices for you. There was a whole thread about them in the last week. You should be able to find it fairly easily.
  16. Righty, that's why the confusion.Looks like you meant it was in the steering column, not the rack.Have you driven a car with one fitted? Any drawbacks to them?
  17. Hey are the rims 6 1/2 inch or 7 inch?
  18. Hey it's not just Queensland drivers.I'm just south of the border(Tweed Valley) and wotcha know, cars in ditches yesterday.Happens all the time down here.I mean some of the roads are tricky but you reckon the locals would know that.Still go arse up though.
  19. Hey I know for a fact mine isn't plugged in.Any adverse consequences of that?
  20. Hey most people here like other makes too. They just don't want to admit it on SAU. Easy decision? Get a Skyline. Skylines rock. Coz I said so.
  21. Won't matter a bugger if it's dry.Tread only reduces grip in dry weather. That's why racers run slicks at every opportunity. If it's damp you'll get tail happy. If it pisses down wait until it stops.Keep fingers crossed, take bible, watch out for black cats. Come to think of it can't you get some secondhand ones with decent tread to tide you over? Much safer for cops and wet weather.
  22. Rough rule of thumb? If the shocks have done 50,000 k's they're either stuffed or almost stuffed. If they're leaking oil they're stuffed. If the car goes boing boing boing after hitting a bump they're stuffed.
  23. Hell, that's cheap. 2nd hand obviously. Thought you might be forking out a pile for new ones. I'd want to be sure of how many k's they had on them. Don't know if Nismo shocks are re-buildable.
  24. Hey how much do you want to lower it? Reason I ask is because if the shocks are meant for standard ride height and spring rate and you lower the car much plus fit stiffer springs ,and they'll need to be stiffer if they're shorter, you'll end up with a bloody pig of a thing. Reasoning goes as follows: say you drop the car to minimum legal ground clearance of 100mm. You have just reduced suspension travel by 50mm. The shock is left with only about half its designed range to work with and is trying to control a stronger spring. The result is that although it will be ok on a dead smooth surface it will pogo like a bitch as soon as you hit the slightest bump. This totally stuffs your handling and braking. The other thing to watch is excessive camber produced by lowering. This will wear out your tyres in no time. You want to do yourself a favour? Spend your money on a matched set of springs and shocks set up for the ride height you want. Be aware that if this is more than 25mm lower than standard you WILL be sacrificing handling and braking for looks, and you will also need camber correction bushes to get reasonable tyre wear.
  25. How much are you going to be paying for them? Reason I ask is I remember reading a write up in Zoom mag on a GTR fitted with Nismo suspension. Verdict? Over sprung and under damped. Porpoised enough to crunch the front lip. They also said turning up the damper adjusters had stuff all effect on damping. All it did was make the shocks cavitate. The owner ended up ditching the Nismo setup for Bilstein shocks with custom valving. From memory the springs were Eibach. Handling sorted, owner happy. If you haven't already forked out the dosh I'd be thinking seriously about alternatives.
