How Much Is My R33 Worth?
ProphetR33 replied to Freddy Kruger's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Too right, shopping lists on the side of cars is a major deterrant for most people. I never look at cars with "performance stickers" on the side, it means there is a better chance that the driver thrashes the car and feels the need to race everyone he lines up against at the lights. -

This Stock Or After Market? Dunno What Kind It Is
ProphetR33 replied to BRUNSKIGTST's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If you have 66 posts to your name, I would say you ask way too much without reading. Your answer is on a stock turbo you would never need forged internals, your turbo would blow before your engine if boosted too high. Safe levels for boosting are around 12 psi on the standard r33 turbo, provided you have a sufficient intercooler, any higher and you run the risk of your turbo going bang. -

A standard skyline can do 107kmh before it hits the rev limiter in 2nd gear from memory. What does forged pistons have to do with it? This post surely can't be serious. -
I'd like to have a lamborghini Murcielago or an Aston Martin DB9 sitting in my garage before I considered a Ferrari. That being said, if you can afford any of them, chances are you can afford all 3 of them
-
I'd like to see this "nice house" you can buy with 250k

Optioning a ferrari, and upgrading a ferrari with aftermarket parts are completely different. If you read my post properly, you would see that I said "A ferrari is a car IMO which you should never customise after it rolls out of the factory.", which means option the hell out of it if you want, but as soon as you take delivery on the thing, don't change anything. If you have a problem with Ferrari's, thats fine. Don't take my posts out of context though. Exotics should never be modified beyond the factory options IMO.
-
Well he just decreased the value of that car buy 20 or 30 thousand. A ferrari is a car IMO which you should never customise after it rolls out of the factory. They are a rare car in their own right and don't need aftermarket customisation. Give me the factory spec wheels any day.

What Not To Do When Trying To Avoid A Kangaroo
ProphetR33 replied to ProphetR33's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Unfortunately it all happened too quick, the ABS didn't really seem to kick in to be honest, if I had my time back I have no doubt that I could have avoided any impact of any sort, but everything is done well in hindsight I suppose. I saw the kangaroo, the thing froze, I slammed on my brakes, didn't have the wheel straight got sideways, over corrected and then locked up the wheels and hit the edge of the road and rolled off the embankment. I handled it very poorly, but live and learn by your mistakes. I've got the car back in sydney now, so if anyone wants the thing, I'll take $5500 straight out, otherwise in 2 weeks I'll be stripping it and selling it individually. -
What Not To Do When Trying To Avoid A Kangaroo

Mate believe me, I realise just how lucky I am. The loss of a car means nothing in the big scheme of things, it just means I'll have a few slim months without much cash, I'll be back on the road in a few months. Someone was watching over my shoulder on sunday, I shouldn't have been able to walk away with just a few cuts and bruises but I was one of the lucky ones who lived to tell the tale. It's given me a whole new perspective on whats important life, before the accident if someone asked me would I be angry if I wrote off my car, I'd be livid. Now its just a moot point, its only money and something I can replace easily, its not as if its going to send me bankrupt or take me years to pay off. 2 or 3 months without a car is pretty insignificant in comparison. -
What Not To Do When Trying To Avoid A Kangaroo
ProphetR33 replied to ProphetR33's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Thanks for all the comments guys. Yeah everything mechanically is virtually untouched, block, intercooler, exhaust, diff, tailshaft, even the wheels are straight, so the suspension is still probably pretty good. Hopefully I'll be able to get back close to 5 grand, I was very lucky with what was damaged, even the front and rear bars don't have a scratch on them. Basically everying except for the passenger door, bootlid, bonnet and right rear taillights and garnish can be stripped and sold. It's still up in singleton at the moment, I've gotta get a car trailer next weekend and tow it down to fully assess everything and see what my options are. -
Hey guys and girls, I had a rather eventful weekend, lost my pride and joy, but not my life which is the most important thing. I was driving along a country road, not far from singleton, as we made the trip up the for my girlfriends neice's christening, it'll certainly be a story told at her 21st. At about 4pm on sunday afternoon I was travelling at about 80kmh an hour, and a kangaroo was up ahead on the road, so I swerved, lost control on the light coating of gravel on the road, slammed on the brakes (I panicked, and I should never have touched the damn thing) and careered towards the edge of the road, as it turned out I was going no faster than walking pace at this point in time (if the road was another meter or two wider, I'd still have a car in perfect condition), and I rolled off an embankment which had about a 3 meter or so drop down into a creek bed, the car rolled 1 and half times side ways and flipped back towards the road. We were stuck in the car sitting in about 3 or 4 inches of water (thank god for the drought), trying to smash the passengers side window out (mine was under water), my gf's uncle broke his hand from punching the window frantically, we tried using the steel from a head rest, but I eventually found a rock in the creek bed which we used. As it turns out we all got out virtually unscathed, I've got about 15 stitches in my leg from being dragged out the window, my gf's uncle has a few stitches in his feet and a hairline fracture in his hand, and the passenger in the back seat had a few general aches and pains but was alright. So anyone who ever comes across a kangaroo, hit the bastard, don't try and avoid it or you could do alot more damage otherwise. The ambos and police said they've never seen a crash as bad as this and everyone able to walk away from it. I'm very lucky to be here, the car wasn't insured as I was having an alarm fitted this week so it could get insured, but a 15 grand car is a small price to pay for my life. On the plus side, the car is virtually a perfect front cut, with no damage to any parts in the engine bay or undercarriage, its all just body work, so I should be able to get a fair bit of my losses back that way. I reckon it's hideous, way too fat backend. I can think of alot better things to spend $64k on rather than a 14 year old GTR with about 20k worth of mods. That being said, I pretty much hate every veilside kit ever made, so it's no surprise that I don't like this one.
-
1995 Black 180SX If you're wanting that car on prestige motorsport just for the bodykit and wheels (which look ordinary IMO anyway), then go for it, but be prepared to spend a couple of thousand on top of what the listed price is, if there is anything wrong with it. You can get plenty of clean late model 180sx's for that price locally, if its just body styling you're looking after then look into how much it will cost to get the look you're after, on top of the price of a local one. Compare it to the imported one and make a decision whether the risk is worth the saving in cost.

M-spec Front Bar, Sedan Side Skirts
ProphetR33 replied to spio's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
The skirts are for a 4-door I presume based on your avatar? If they're for a 2-door, I am interested. Nevermind, sorry I re-read the post, it is for a sedan.... Would you take $150 for the bar? How's the condition, it looks like it has quite a few scuffs from the photo, but can't really tell for sure? -
Everything is relative. I meant in their enthusiasm for the car. If the Monaro cost $400,000 I doubt it would be met with such enthusiasm Bang for buck wise, they love it.
-
Some of the reviews they've given the Monaro on that show match ferrari's, lambos or whatever. They absolutely love it. I think one of the reviews they said it was the most fun to drive car they've ever been in. But let the holden bashing carry on
-
One of my mates works for haltech, so I'll probably end up getting an E11v2 through him. But the E8 is priced at $1795.00 which is a pretty reasonable package when you can buy the boost solenoid for it for $100, opposed to apexi's $500 solenoid, most of their addons are pretty reasonably priced compared to Apexi's over the top pricing.

Add Your Gf To Your Insurance Policy
ProphetR33 replied to Modena's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That's exactly my same fear. I couldn't care less about the car, hurting herself or someone else because she isn't skilled enough to drive a manual turbo car is the reason I'd never let her behind the wheel. -

My GF has had 2 crashes due to falling asleep at the wheel and never driven a manual. Good enough reason to never give her my keys IMO. -

If I were injured in the middle of nowhere and looking like bleeding out, I'd still be safer sitting on the side of the road than letting my girl drive my car -

My girlfriend can't drive manual, and can barely drive an auto. She ain't going anywhere near the drivers seat of the R33. If I had a gf that could drive well I'd add her for sure. -
Is This Even Possible? Sounds A Lil Too Good.
ProphetR33 replied to LatinR33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Sounds pretty close to spot on to me. That setup would output anywhere from 175rwkw-190rwkw depending on the tune and how much boost its running I would have thought. -
As said before, goto bunnings buy a $10-15 thin sheet of steel, disconnect your cat, grab the gasket, trace around it onto the steel, cut it up, drill a 1 inch hole, an put that in place of the gasket, and you'll be right for the test.
