Lanching In 2nd Gtr
PM-R33 replied to Travis Trayhern's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
A couple of the big powered LS1 guys i know launch in second every now and then. Shouldn't be that bad, however maybe being an AWD, it'll put a lot more load on the drivetrain compared to RWD so not sure... -
Mating Rb26dett Throttle Plenum On Rb25det (neo) Head

Yeah, how did this all go? I remember reading this thread ages ago and forgot about it. -
Wondering if some of the guys that know a bit about tuning ECU's in general could help me out here. I can't find any info on this. I've nearly finished setting up the launch control and antilag setup in the car through the AUX input on the LT12S. Now the problem is, currently this AUX input is being used for the aircon adjustment. When the aircon switches on, the AUX input is triggered and adjusts the tune with the following: Adds air through the cold bypass valve by 0.86 Adds fuel by 0.05 Adds timing by +02 degrees Now if i get rid of this in favour of the launch control/antilag, what effect will that have on the car with the aircon on and giving it some stick? I don't care to much if the car has a bit of trouble idling with the aircon on as i can simply turn the aircon off when coming to a stop. The main thing im worried about is whether the engine will start pinging with the aircon on if i give it some. It's only giving it a tiny bit of fuel and 2 degrees of timing, surely if that wasn't there it wouldn't effect it too much...... Do you guys that tune cars notice much of a difference in the tune with the aircon on, will it start pinging noticably if you havent tuned the AUX map for it? Some extra info would be good, that way i dont have to worry about the car running the aircon without it having any adjustments to the map. I might just turn all those values to zero and take it for a drive tomorrow during the day with the aircon on and see how it goes. Would rather get some insight into it first though. Cheers guys

No doubt, they launch like crazy. I still gotta play around with my anti lag a bit, i wanna have some fun with that Hopefully the GT-RS doesnt go bang lol -

All good, just having a stir. No doubt a GTR is a better platform to start with then a GTST, every one knows that. We told you to buy a GTR before you did the conversion, so you did the right choice buying a new car than pouring tens of thousands more into that GTST to try and fix it again. -
Are Imports Such As Skyline/supra's Unreliable?
PM-R33 replied to Fat-magz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Three years counting, never had a failure from something that wasn't caused by me ie. Intercooler pipe coming off, vacuum line coming off etc. Service the car regularly and don't do stupid things like sit on 8000rpm for a minute doing skids in the middle of the day or run 20psi through the stock turbo and you'll be fine. -

Dad's monaro is 380ish kw and it really aint that bad with the right suspension and tyres. Obviously different car, but its how the car is setup and how the power is delivered. As i said earlier, if you have a turbo that comes on like a light switch than yeah no chance, but if its very progressive it aint that bad once there is a bit of speed. -

Well obviously. Who the hell would go from a GTR back to a GTST of the same model. Your comparing power levels that are extrememly low, obviously the GTR is going to take less mods to make 200kw@wheels. Lets compare it to say 300rwkw out of a GTR: Fuel pump, injectors, ecu, Z32's, dumps, exhaust, bigger twins or a single turbo (if going single new exhaust manifold and new dump). Lets compare that to a GTST to make 300rwkw: Fuel pump, injectors, ecu, Z32, dump, exhaust, bigger single, front mount. Hmmm seems pretty much the same to me. We are splitting hairs here since people are comparing stock GTR's to modified GTST, stock GTST's to modified GTR's. Stock for stock the GTR wins hands down. When both modified they can both be made with the same mods to make the same power, the real difference is the GTR can use the power better since it has AWD therefore performs better in most situations where big power equals traction problems for a GTST. This is the case with all imports; silvias, Rx7's, supras etc. When big power is at hand, traction becomes an issue, but who cares. People still buy these cars for the enjoyment they bring. If we could all afford R34 GTR's we would drive them, hell when i finish uni ill probably even buy one. However when i do, im not going to start commenting how shit my old car was just to make the new one said soo much better like you are. Difference being i havnt spent close to half the money you have to end up with a stock car. Your old GTST would have smoked your GTR from a roll on and you know it. -
High Flow Turbo Vs Stock Turbo For R-33 Gts-t
PM-R33 replied to blitz r33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I take it you've never been in a 6L or 6.2L? Considering the VE SS's do mid 13s standard. Back on topic though, definetely go chuck it on a dyno. Worth the dollars to get it checked and find an issue if there is one. -

Yeah but your GTST had coilovers with spring rates in it made for the D1 guys in Japan. Hence why every time you'd put your foot down it would slide like it was on ice. -

Very impressive stuff mate, congrats, gotta love R34 GTR's Would have been interesting if there where some of the older model GTR's running in it, to see how they would have compared. F**k, look at the time, i think we should all get to bed lol. -
Gtr Vs Gtst Huge Difference In Performance?

Once again, that's at the drags, the GTR does a great launch and doesn't spin the first two gears which costs you a second. Remember, every second you lose at your start usually makes up two seconds by the end. I don't drive a drag car, i drive a street car. I dont launch my car at every set of lights. Hence my point. I could run down the drags with mine and run a 12.5 (for example), same powered GTR would run a low 11 (for example). Therefore in your eyes the GTR is soooo much quicker. Line the same car up next to me on the street, come out of a roundabout and stomp it. I gaurantee the race will be equal. This is my point. What are we discussing here? I wasn't aware every one on here is driving around a drag car. -

Gtr Vs Gtst Huge Difference In Performance?
PM-R33 replied to boostin_r33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I never once said a GTST was faster from a roll on. You just proved my point. They are the same car from a roll on with the same power, differences in mods and how they make their power in the rev range alters who would win. -
Gtr Vs Gtst Huge Difference In Performance?
PM-R33 replied to boostin_r33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Wow, a whole 70cc more, look out! Been in plenty of GTR's bud (not R34 GTR though), on stock turbo's they aren't that fast and i found them to be quite a bit laggy. Just like a stock turbo'd GTST isn't that fast. Just because they can launch hard down the drags and run 11's on the stock turbo's, doesn't mean they are an 11 second car on the street from a roll on. They are awesome cars, it's just i think people make them out to be a supercar in stock form (R32 and R33) and that's just not the case. -
Gtr Vs Gtst Huge Difference In Performance?
PM-R33 replied to boostin_r33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well thats exactly right. Like i said, you have to assume that the GTST is putting the power to the ground. If it's spinning, then yes once again the GTR's AWD advantage is coming into play. However any RWD can be setup to put the power to ground with the correct tyres and suspension settings unless the power delivery is extremely parabolic. -
Gtr Vs Gtst Huge Difference In Performance?
PM-R33 replied to boostin_r33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well thats exactly the thing, launching. Like i said, it's main advantage on the street and you can't deny it. GTR's launching on the street are deadly. From a rolling start at say 60kmh and dropping it into second and nailing it, where does a GTR with the same power as a GTST in a straight line have an advantage? (assuming the GTST can put the power to the ground) No where. -

The GTR series I interior is the same as a GTST series I interior. The GTR series II and III interior is the same as the GTST series II interior. Other than the seats and some factory DIN gauges there is no real difference so i dont see how its a nicer place to be. -
