well, I believe in the justice system. for the most part it works, as the burden of proof lies with the accusers (police) rather than defendants (you) and if the car is owned by someone else or owned by a credit agency, then there is no legal basis (unless the state govt is going to pay the value of the car to the owner - which will never happen) Put simply, the only cars I can think will get crushed are the $500-$1000 shitboxes - and I won't shed any tears over that -D

Not sure, I just remember reading that it was a 3 fatality crash Even if they didnt, thats one there and another one in the wrx vs wrx crash with a corolla (or whatever it was), then you have the kid in the wrx last year who spun his car into a stobie pole and killed his mate thats 3 right there, minimum, not to mention 5 written off cars in those 3 episodes, 3 of which were torn in half... i tried to karate chop a sigma once, i can tell you it takes more than chuck norris to get one of them to split in two -D

Vote No In Adelaidenow's "hoon Poll/car Crushing"
Dohmar replied to JayMei's topic in South Australia
i think its gotten to the point that we're going to have to arrange for a counter campaign, get some statistics for the last 10 years about each fatality and the circumstances. graph such variables as age of driver, gender, driving experience, make and model of car, time and weather conditions, etc etc etc i think that'd probably be the only way one could dispel the 'hoon' stereotype. mind you, the dickheads that have caused trouble the last few months have done nothing to aid to the image of anyone who drives a skyline/supra/wrx/stag/batmobile.... the way the media portray it that we are all hell bent on running our precious cars into a wall or another motorist is a bit of a laugh. I was speaking to a cop at Holden Hill on Wed while I was reporting an internet fraud, and when he gave me a 'victims of crime' booklet i flipped to the part where it refers to the media and I said 'I really like your section on the media" and many a lol was had about the media In any case, Its going to be a very very hard thing for any court to declare within the >current< laws. The real funny thing is that traditionally, if a man was to commit an offence, then the man was punished. If he used a weapon to commit the crime, the weapon was not punished, and nor was the mans immediate dependants. This law runs counter to commonsense as well as legal precedent. That doesn't mean they can't/won't change the law to make it legal (which I suppose most people would be nonplussed about their rights being eroded...) However its interesting to note that the bikie laws in both SA and NSW have ground to a halt upon appeal to the supreme court about the constitutional (read - federal interpretation) legality. If the supreme court has any sense it'll strike the laws down and the dumbass politicions in SA and NSW will actually have to do their job for a change, rather than blaming any set group without any basis upon our current law -D -D -
+1 to all of the above "That Cat Knows His Shit" - Dohmar, talking about Iron Chef -D EDIT - One thing I will disagree with Kristian is on mileage - you can get some very high mileage vehicles that have been immaculately maintained Conversely, you can get the very opposite, low mileage cars that have not been cared for. Some japanese people dont ever service their cars because they just dont drive as much as us. The reality is that its somewhere in between, which is made all the harder due to the prevalence of aftermarket r32 gtr speedos (for 280/320kph limit) - when this happens you have no idea as to how many KM's its done. Thats why you'll generally pay more for a GTR that still has >everything< stock, regardless of the mileage reported. and the vspec 1 and 2's are becoming very rare now as people realize that they are becoming collectors items - for the money they will be worth, its almost worth trying to source a crashed vspec2 with an intact chassis and vin and then rebuilding from scratch. heh. end rant.

I have to agree, however I would add that any car that is 15-20 years old is going to have wear and tear issues. This is natural and nothing to be worried about, you just have to be aware that over the time you own it, you'll need to replace one thing after another (unless you drop even more cash and do a complete rebuild from scratch) that said, I don't begrudge the money i've spent. provided no smeghead collides with me and I don't screw up and crash, then I anticipate I'll be keeping the car for a long while, and I believe that in the next couple years I'll be replacing the rest of the old and tired gear as it is. Engine builds can be considered an extra, however I still have 210-220kw 20 years later. Its quite common for a non thrashed rb engine to get the pistons removed and still have the original hone marks visible (at least thats what my mechanic told me when discussing my rb30)... a car will never make you money - as long as you accept that and see the vehicle as something you have to feed and clean and pay for health care (like a kid) then you won't be so bothered (Disclaimer - I hate kids and would rather have a gtr but thats just me Your mileage may vary) -D

no shit, u gotta love a man who pockets 50% of the tv viewing rights money (worth a shitload) and then has the gall to tell teams to reduce their cap by 50% dick. -D

reading the news today i reckon it'd be awesome to have a foca f1 series without bernie and max... would be awesome, everyone is keen for it except it seems frank williams -D

-
i havent been to happy valley since last week -D
-
ja ill pop down too methinks
-
agreed, and the vspecs are usually 25k minimum at that. you could get a 32 gtr for $20k but I suspect it'd need lots of work done -D
-
and if they value their cars more than their life, then imho, good f**king riddance man thats darwinism at work right there folks, the stupid ones die and are eliminated from the gene pool so that the species as a whole might evolve. besides, james bond would never come to adelaide because he'd get defected in his aston martin. your flipping numberplate analogy is invalid. -D

Uhm the difference is experience. Or, like you said, they buy their 34 as a first car and then, snap 2nd in the wet and bang, dead. theyre more likely to f**k up if a 34 is their first car rather than getting used to how a car handles (and you even learn to back off in the wet when driving a 4cyl shitbox) I know for a fact that people with an iota of experience wouldn't screw up as much as a P plater. Start low, work your way up, that way there is much more chance you'll a) understand the difference power can make and b) having an appreciation of the power curve, would be a little more cautious in all scenarios. Power can get you out of trouble. It can also get you into trouble. Thats why it would most likely be based upon the power the vehicle produces, not whether it has a turbo, super, na, 4cyl, 6cyl, 8cyl, diesel, petrol, lpg, whatever... -D EDIT - And I agree craig, training is the key. Bring on the finnish system i say..
-
I agree with the logic but common sense isnt all that common Theres going to be one stupid kid I'm sure who thinks he's gonna get away with it +1 again for the above post esp if you have custom number plates heh -D
-
hah thats a good point tho something tells me they'll just say 'screwit' and start selling the illegal mods - and then they'll send u a bill for compliancing the vehicle again... -D
-
+1 and well said at that grow up ladies -D

nice and cheap if u got the connections but most of us peons have to go to a tyre place and have them balanced, fitted and aligned... not all of us are mechanics -D
